Method for generating a negative pressure by means of vehicle engines which work with compression ignition and device on motor vehicles for carrying out the method. . The production of a negative pressure with telst vehicle engines that work with self-ignition was until now considered impracticable. These engines, i.e. two- and four-stroke engines, in which air or another gas is placed under high pressure and the resulting heat generation is used to ignite the injected or sucked in fuel, in particular diesel engines, have until now been equipped with a special ejector or a vacuum pump equipped if the brakes or other organs of the vehicle should be operated with a negative pressure.
The present invention eliminates this complication in that the generation of a negative pressure in a container is used by closing a throttle element in the air intake line during freewheeling, that is to say, for example, while running down or downhill. The Dros selorgan, for example a throttle valve, can be connected to the actuators of the vehicle, for example in motor vehicles with the foot lever for injection regulation, the clutch lever, and a handbrake.
An embodiment of the device according to the invention is shown in the drawing; based on the same, the method according to the invention is also explained below, for example.
The figure shows schematically part of the engine and the main actuating lever of the motor vehicle; the negative pressure is used, for example, to operate a brake.
According to the drawing, the air passes through an air filter 1 into the intake line 2 of the engine (for example a four-stroke engine with four cylinders). In the intake line 2 there is a throttle valve 3, which can be actuated by a rod 4 arranged outside the pipe res. The rod 4 engages an arm 5 of the shaft 6 on which further arms 7, 8 and 9 are seated. The arms 7, 8 and 9 engage with pins in slots of the connecting rods 10, 11 and 12. The connecting rod 10 is on the lever 13 for the handbrake, the connecting rod 11 on the clutch lever 14 and the connecting lever 12 on the injection-regulating foot lever 15 hanged.
The operating levers are shown in the rest position, so that the amount of fuel injected is sufficient for idling the engine, the engine clutch is engaged and the handbrake is open. In this position, the three actuation levers due to the slots in the rods 10; 11 and 12 have no effect on the position of the throttle valve 3. However, if one of these levers is adjusted, the throttle valve 3 is opened when it is closed and kept open.
To the intake pipe 2, a connec tion line 20 is attached, which leads to the Unterdruckbehäl ter 21 via a check valve 2.2. A return line leads from the container 21 to a vacuum regulator 23 with a membrane 26 on which a spring 2'5 acts, the tension of which can be adjusted by means of the adjusting screw 24. The membrane 26 acts on a rod which is led out of the housing of the vacuum regulator and which engages a pivot lever of the throttle valve 3. The spring tends to lift the membrane and thereby close the throttle valve.
If there is a negative pressure in the container 21, the spring 25 is loaded by the membrane 26, since a negative pressure prevails under the membrane and the atmospheric air penetrating into the housing of the negative pressure regulator above the membrane presses onto the membrane. If the negative pressure in the container has a certain value, it is able to overcome the spring force and the throttle valve 3 opens. The spring tension can be adjusted by means of the adjusting screw 24 to a certain negative pressure. Instead of a diaphragm valve, a piston valve can also be provided.
The operation of the device is as follows: 1. When the vehicle is stationary, the foot lever 15 and the clutch lever 14 are in the position where they have no influence on the throttle valve. The handbrake 1.3 is applied and consequently keeps the shaft 6 rotated so that it keeps the throttle open by means of the rod 4, also - when the vacuum tank is still under atmospheric pressure, the pivot arm 7 is pushed by the rod 10. A brake pedal, not shown, for actuating the vacuum brake is in the rest position.
z. When starting, the clutch is switched off and the clutch lever is depressed. The handbrake remains attracted conditions and the throttle valve 3 is held open by the levers 1.3 and 14. The engine can suck in fresh air, the foot lever 15 remains in the rest position, but the machine still holds so much fuel that it comes to idle speed.
3. To start off, the handbrake is released and the motor clutch is switched on. The two levers 13 and 14 therefore return to the rest position. At the same time, however, the foot lever 15 is stepped on, so that the rod 12 by means of the arm 9 holds the shaft 6 in the position where it holds the throttle valve 3 by means of the rod 4 open. The brake pedal remains in the rest position. The machine can suck in fresh air.
4. To coast, the clutch remains engaged and the handbrake released; in contrast, the foot lever 15 is released and thus the influence of the shaft 6 on the throttle valve is canceled. If the negative pressure in the container 21 is not so great that the air pressure can compress the spring 25, it closes the throttle valve 3. The machine now sucks air from the negative pressure container. As a result, the spring 25 is more and more compressed by the air pressure which is on the membrane 26 and opens the throttle valve 3 as soon as the negative pressure in the container has become sufficiently large.
5. To .Further travel, the foot lever 1 5 is actuated again, so that the throttle valve 33 is opened again via the linkage 12, 9, 6, 5, 4 if it is not already open. The machine receives fresh air again when the clutch is engaged, the handbrake is released and the brake pedal is at rest.
6. When braking with the vacuum brake, first of all, in order to interrupt the injection, the lever 15 is released and the throttle valve is thus subjected to the influence of the vacuum regulator 23. If there is little or no negative pressure in the container, the spring 25 closes the throttle valve 3. The clutch remains engaged, the hand brake is not used and only the brake pedal of the vacuum brake is depressed. Was the vacuum in the container? 1 still strong, 5o the throttle valve 3 is only opened when sufficient negative pressure has been consumed to actuate the brakes when the brake pedal is depressed from the vacuum reservoir 21. During the run-out of the car, new negative pressure is then generated again with the throttle valve closed, and more appropriately a little more than was consumed by the braking.
When braking by hand, the injection is also interrupted, the clutch remains engaged, but the 1: 3 handbrake is applied. This opens the throttle valve 3 if it was not already open. The brake pedal remains untouched and there is no negative pressure consumption. It is therefore not necessary to replace it.
When braking with the hand and foot brake at the same time, the foot lever 15 is released. the clutch remains engaged and the throttle valve 3 is kept open by applying the handbrake 13. The brake pedal is stepped on and the foot is braked with the aid of the vacuum reserve in the container 21, which in this case is not set during coasting.
If by some chance there is no underpressure in the line system of the vehicle or truck, only the handbrake works.
7. Stopping: The injection is interrupted, the clutch is disengaged by stepping on the clutch lever 14 and thereby the throttle valve 3 via the linkage 11, 8, 6, 5, 4 is opened. The handbrake 13 is pulled and the brake pedal is released. There is no negative pressure consumption.
B. Special cases: When driving uphill, the conditions are similar to when driving fast on a flat route: the foot lever 15 is stepped and the throttle valve 3 is kept open mechanically while the clutch is engaged, the handbrake 13 is released and the brake pedal is at rest is.
When going downhill, the conditions are the same as when coasting down: the foot lever 15 is released, the clutch is engaged, the handbrake 13 is released, the brake pedal is temporarily in use. When braking, negative pressure is consumed, then the throttle valve 3 is closed and the machine sucks air from the container \? 1 to replace the negative pressure used during braking. When the maximum negative pressure is reached, the throttle valve opens in order to close again immediately if the negative pressure decreases as a result of the next braking, so that the negative pressure in the container is constantly maintained when the vehicle continues.
The facility is particularly important for driving downhill in mountainous terrain in order to increase the driving safety of trucks with trailers. It can be combined with devices that cause the individual vehicles to brake automatically when a clutch breaks.
