Le fonctionnement de la forme d'exécu tion décrite est le suivant, l'arbre 7 tournant dans le sens de la flèche 30 de la fig. 1: .A la position des parties représentées sur cette fig. 1, le galet 4 est en contact avec la partie 24b et le galet 5 avec l'extrémité antérieure de la partie 24d de la came 24;
Le dispositif de commande décrit présente divers avantages: Il permet d'actionner la soupape 20 à grande vitesse aussi bien pour l'ouverture que pour la fermeture, puisque cet actionne- ment a lieu desmodromiquement, ce qui est important en particulier pour les moteurs à vitesses élevées: il ne comporte pas de ressort puissant servant à assurer à lui seul une fermeture rapide et complète de la soupape et néces sitant par suite un effort élevé de la part du dispositif pour vaincre sa résistance lors de l'ouverture de la soupape;
grâce au fait qu'il n'y a pas de ressort puissant devant assurer à lui seul la ferme ture de la soupape et qu'il n'est pas néces saire de le comprimer d'une façon très pro gressive, on peut donner au pourtour de la came 24 une forme telle qu'il produise rapi dement l'ouverture de la soupape et la main tienne longtemps; dans ces conditions rien ne s'oppose à ce que la largeur de la partie 24d soit grande et soit même plus grande que la largeur maximum de la partie 24a, contrairement à ce qui se fait généralement; la soupape se ferme néanmoins de façon complète et élastique sous l'action du ressort 9, de faible puissance; du fait de cette fermeture complète de façon élastique, il n'y a pas matage de la tête 20 ou du siège 22;
Valve control device for combustion engines. internal. The object of the invention is a valve control device for internal combustion engines.
It is characterized by the fact that for the closing of the valve, it comprises a cam intended to bring the valve to the immediate proximity of its seat, without the aid of an elastic member, a second cam and an elastic member applying then the valve on its seat.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the control device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation; Figs. 2 and 3 are a plan and a side view of a rocker that this positive said comprises; Figs. 4 and 5 are a side elevation and a plane of the two cams; Figs. 6 and 7 are two views of a detail. The device shown is applied to a valve 20 comprising a head 21, applied from bottom to top on a seat 22, and a rod 14 with a vertical axis. The rod 14 is screwed into a yoke 13 serving to connect it to a rocker arm 2-3 and is held there by a lock nut 15.
The rocker arm 2-3 actuating the valve 20 has the form of an angled lever and oscillates on an axis 1. Its left arms 2, right 3, are provided with rollers 4, 5 rolling on the periphery of a cam 24 ensuring the opening and closing of the valve 20. Its right arm has, at its free end, an elongated housing 11, open at one of its ends and receiving a pin 13a with two flats 23; this connects the yoke 13 to the goal scorer 2-3 and can slide in the housing 11 along the length of the latter.
The arm 3 of the rocker arm 2-3 carries laterally, between the point of attack of the valve and the tilting axis, a hollow boss 8 in which slides a pusher 70 supported by a rounded head on a cam 6 of the shaft 7 under the action of a spring 9. The cam 6, the pusher 10, the, spring 9 are used to apply the valve 20 on its seat 22 once it has been brought into the immediate vicinity of that here by the cam 24 and the roller 5. This pusher 10 is provided with a rod 16 carrying a nut and a locknut 17 which abut against the bottom of the boss 8 to limit the stroke of the pusher in the direction of the cam 6.
The two cams 6, 24 are manufactured with the camshaft 7. The turn of the cam 24 has the general shape of a symmetrical trapezoid with rounded angles and consists of a central part 24a in the form of a arc of a circle of relatively small radius, of two rectilinear parts 24b, 24c, of a peripheral part 24d of convex curvilinear shape having the same radius, relatively large, over a large fraction of its length; the width of the part 24d is greater than the maximum width of the part 24a. For its part, the periphery of the cam 6 has a symmetrical shape and consists of an arc of a circle 6a whose radius of curvature is relatively small, of an arc of a circle 6b, opposite, of which the radius of curvature is rela tively large and of connecting curves 6c, 6d.
The maximum radius of the circumference of the cam 24 is a little smaller than the maximum radius of the circumference of the cam 6. The cam 24 and the rocker arm 2--3 are set so that they bring the head 21 of the valve 20 at a small distance, 0.1 or 0.2 mm for example, from the seat 22. On the other hand, there is a small play, 0.1 to 0.2 mm for example, between the rollers 4, 5 and the cam 24, when they are all in engagement with each other, to account for wear, expansion, etc.
The operation of the embodiment described is as follows, the shaft 7 rotating in the direction of arrow 30 in FIG. 1:. At the position of the parts shown in this fig. 1, the roller 4 is in contact with the part 24b and the roller 5 with the front end of the part 24d of the cam 24;
the roller 5 then traverses this part 24d which forces the rocker arm 2-3 to switch on the axis 1 in the direction opposite to the movement of the needles of a watch and to bring consequently the head 21 of the valve 20 to a small distance seat 22. But the pusher 10 then rests on part 6a of the cam 6, so that the spring 9 forces the rocker arm 2-3 to move a little further in the same direction and to apply the head 21 on the seat 22 resiliently: The valve 20 is thus completely closed.
The shaft 7 continues to rotate in the same direction, so that there comes a moment when the roller 5 is successively in the presence of the parts 24b, 24a of the cam 24, which allows the rocker arm 2-3 to tilt. clockwise on shaft 1; the push button 10, the stroke of which is limited downwards by the nut and the locknut 17, momentarily ceases to be in contact with the cam 6. On the other hand, the part 24c of the cam 24, then part 24d engages roller 4, which rocks rocker arm 2-3 clockwise and opens valve 20.
The same operations then start again and so on.
Let us now suppose that the engine to which the embodiment described is applied comprises several cylinders each having an intake valve for example controlled by such. device. When the cams 6, 24 of one of the cylinders momentarily occupy the positions shown in FIG. 1; it may happen that the engine rotates backwards, in the opposite direction of the arrow 30, following a return, due for example to an untimely ignition; no incident occurs in the cylinder in question as a result of the respective positions of the corresponding valve and piston.
On the other hand, it can happen in another cylinder, for which the cams 6, 24 are momentarily at the positions indicated in fig. 4, that the valve is opened by the cam 24 as the piston approaches its dead center near this valve., Which risks causing a collision between piston and valve and consequently an accident. This is however avoided in all cases by the embodiment described: Indeed, if the shaft 7 is moving at this time in the direction of arrow 31 of FIG. 4, the cam 6 lifts the pusher 10, which forces the rocker arm 2-3 to tilt on its axis 1 in the opposite direction of clockwise movement and to close the valve 20; the latter cannot therefore be located in the space swept by the piston.
The described control device has various advantages: It enables the valve 20 to be actuated at high speed both for opening and for closing, since this actuation takes place desmodromically, which is particularly important for high speed engines. high speeds: it does not include a powerful spring serving to ensure on its own a rapid and complete closing of the valve and consequently requiring a high force on the part of the device to overcome its resistance during the opening of the valve;
thanks to the fact that there is no powerful spring which alone must ensure the closing of the valve and that it is not necessary to compress it in a very progressive manner, the the periphery of the cam 24 has a shape such that it rapidly produces the opening of the valve and the hand holds for a long time; under these conditions nothing prevents the width of part 24d from being large and even greater than the maximum width of part 24a, contrary to what is generally done; the valve nevertheless closes completely and resiliently under the action of the spring 9, of low power; due to this complete elastic closure, there is no matting of the head 20 or of the seat 22;
the pusher 10 is engaged with the cam 6 only on a part of the periphery thereof; a closing of the valve is ensured by the cam 6, the spring 9, the pusher 10 in the event that the engine rotates backwards by incident and the corresponding piston moves in the direction of this valve; the spring 9 forms a shock and vibration damper; as the pusher 10 and its spring 9 are mounted directly on the right arm 3 of the rocker arm 2-3, they follow the movements of this arm without difficulty and without mechanical complication; the adjustment of the valve 20 takes place simply by loosening the lock nut 15 by rotating in one direction or the other the rod 14 in the yoke 13 and then tightening this lock nut 15.
The cams 6, 24 may not have been manufactured with each other and with the shaft 7.
The control device described can be applied to both the inlet valves and the exhaust valves. It can be used for internal combustion engines of all types.
