Control device for initiating the ignition of the anodes and for applying the control potential to the grids of multi-anode, grid-controlled discharge devices assigned to the anodes. Controlled and uncontrolled discharge devices with mercury cathodes generally have, in addition to the main anodes, an ignition anode and exciter anodes for initiating and maintaining the working arc. It has also already been stated that the excitation can remain away if voltage surges are impressed intermittently on the anodes.
The invention now relates to a control device for initiating the ignition of the anodes and for applying the control potential to the grid of multi-anode, grid-controlled discharge devices with mercury cathode, but without exciter anode and without movable ignition anode, in the fiction according to the ignition caused by the fact that the vapor density on the surface of the cathode mercury is continuously increased locally, and that an electrode fixed in the valve housing is periodically pressed with a voltage surge that is positive compared to the cathode, which initiates an arc between this electrode and the mercury vapor cloud superimposed on the cathode mercury,
and that, in addition, the control grids for the anodes that are permanently connected to a negative voltage source are subjected to a positive voltage surge, namely in the time when the anode to be ignited is positive.
In the drawing .sind Ausführungsbei play the invention schematically on a two-anode valve in Fig. 1 to 4 represents.
In all of the figures, 1 denotes the feed transformer for the two-phase rectifier 2 with mercury cathode and anodes, which are surrounded by an arc guide sleeve in which the control grids 17 are insulated. With a mounted in the interior of the rectifier housing auxiliary electrode is referred to, which is arranged in the vicinity of the mercury cathode. Instead of this electrode, a part of the metal housing or an electrode arranged at any point in the housing can also be used.
At the bottom of the cathode container is a communicating with the cathode mercury, heatable mercury container 16, which sits a nozzle be, the mouth of which terminates with the cathode mercury level, or below the. sen is submerged, and which also has a return pipe. The nozzle head and the head of the return pipe is advantageously made of a metallic or. Ceramic material (quartz) is made, which has a melting temperature of at least 1 $ 00 C.
The purpose of the heatable mercury container is to create vapor conditions in the vicinity of the cathode, so that at every cylinder temperature a voltage surge of a few kV is applied to the auxiliary electrode between the auxiliary electrode and the compressed mercury vapor emerging at the nozzle opening, which is superimposed on the cathode mercury , an independent arc discharge is initiated.
It is not possible to ignite with low voltages on the free mercury surface of the cathode, even if the entire mercury bath would be heated to around <B> 60 '</B> C. This is particularly the case with a cold rectifier or control apparatus. In order to achieve this ignition, "a significantly higher vapor density must be generated at the ignition point, without increasing the total evaporation from the cathode with regard to the risk of reignition and control failure, which would have to occur when heating the entire bath.
The amount emitted by the nozzle does not have to be greater than an excitation current of around 20 amps, which means 7. 110-3 grams per ampere-second times 20 amps equal to 0.14 grams per second. It is possible to create such a high vapor seal at the nozzle opening that independent ignition with approximately 3 kV is possible. The control grid 17 immediately in front of the anodes are supplied from the direct current source, for example battery 10 via the resistors ri, r-,
permanently negatively charged compared to the cathode. The charging of the grid with positive potential for the purpose of ignition takes place periodically via the contact device 4 with a rotating grinding brush 8 from the direct current source, for example battery 9.
The surge potential for the auxiliary electrode 15 is taken from a transformer 14, the secondary winding of which is tapped in the middle and connected to the cathode of the rectifier 2, while the ends of the secondary winding via valves 13 and a throttle 12 with the slip ring of the contact apparatus 5 verbun to are, so that per period of the alternating current in the transformer two voltage surges are generated and the electrode 15 is pressed; will. The brushes 8 of the two contact devices rotate synchronously mitein other. It is expedient to ensure that the voltage surge on the electrode initiating ignition of the main anode is generated earlier than that on the control grid.
The slip rings tra lowing part of the contact apparatus can be adjusted in a manner known per se with respect to the brushes; however, the brush angle can just as easily be changed.
In the example according to Fig. 2, the grid 17, as well as the electrode 15 are fed by the high-frequency or medium-frequency generator 9, namely the electrode 15 via the transformer 18, which generates the necessary high voltage, but the grid 17 Via the contact apparatus 4. The initiation of the ignition therefore takes place continuously, but it only takes effect when the cathode current falls to the value zero. During normal operation, if there is sufficient overlap, the main current itself is responsible for the excitation of the igniting anode.
As long as a cathode current is flowing, the device will probably respond to charging the electrode 15, but it is then not used and does not do any harm. If, for example, the anode currents are controlled in such a way that there is no overlap in the presence of a mechanical immersion ignition, the control apparatus or the cathode current would be interrupted for seconds. With the burst ignition according to the invention, however, ignition can occur again within any short time intervals.
Fig. 3 shows a further embodiment example, in .dem, similar to Section 1, a alternating current source 9 and a Kontaktappa rat 4 is used for applying the grid potential, while the surge potential for the auxiliary electrode 15 in the rectifier is taken from a capacitor 11 , which is charged in pauses between the voltage surges via auxiliary contacts on the Kontaktappa rat from a transformer 14 with the help of valves 13 and a throttle 12, the shock potential being controlled by the contact device 5.
This contact apparatus has on the contact track next to the Entladekoutakten 7, which are connected by a ring line that leads to the electrode 15, further charging contacts 6, which are also led to a ring line to which the transformer 14 via the valve 13 and the Choke 12 is connected. The plus coating of the capacitor 11 is placed on the undivided slip ring that is simultaneously bridged over by the brush 8.
Fig. 4 shows an arrangement similar to Fig. 2. Here, however, the circuit for the voltage surge on the electrode 15 from the transformer 18 is only closed via the hot cathode tube 20 when the cathode current and -, thus the voltage drop at the shunt 19 has fallen to approximately zero. If a cathode current flows through the shunt 19 which is less than approximately 5 amps, the cathode spot on the mercury cathode is extinguished and the entire control apparatus is put out of operation.
By fixing the cathode spot on the cathode according to the invention, the cathode current can be reduced to a value of about 1 amp without it being extinguished. In this case, the nozzle head of the steam injection device can serve as a figuring device. The quenching of the cathode current could therefore be avoided if the main load could never drop below 1 ampere after the control arc apparatus has been ignited.
However, it is a condition that there is a minimum amount of overlap between the individual streams. If there is no overlap, the ignition must be restarted. This now happens by means of the tube controlled by the shunt 19, which closes the circuit cathode transformer 18, tube 20, electrode 15, and cathode. The surge voltage is permanently present because the high frequency generator 9 is also used for grid control.
The described facilities he set the excitation completely, because the steam necessary to ignite the main anodes is supplied by the mercury vessel 16 ge and the cathode spot on the cathode mercury generated if necessary by the periodic initiation of the ignition of the rectifier.
