All dies ist wohl bekannt.
Fig. 1 zeigt eine Vorrichtung in welcher der Leistungsfaktor gemessen wird; Fig. 2 zeigt eine Ausführungsform in welcher der Leistungsfaktor mittelst eines Synehro#nmatores geregelt wird;
Device for monitoring the power factor of electrical circuits. The present invention relates to an apparatus for monitoring the power factor of electrical circuits. Monitoring can either consist in the device measuring the power factor or regulating it automatically.
It is known that when alternating potentials of the same frequency are applied to the grid and the anode of a gas-filled triode, the mean anode current depends on the ratio between their phases. Furthermore, if the amplitude of the grid potential rises very much above the critical grid potential, the mean anode current is mostly independent of this amplitude and depends only on the amplitude of the anode potential and on the phase difference between the grid and the anode potential.
This is to be explained in more detail with reference to FIGS. 6 and 7 of the accompanying drawing. In FIG. 6, the curve labeled E ″ indicates the change in the anode voltage with time.
If E., is negative (i.e. to the left of <B> 01, </B> or between 02 and 0s), the anode current is zero. The anode current will also be zero in the interval 01, 02, unless the grid voltage at any point in time during this interval assumes a value above curve e, which represents the critical voltage as a function of the anode voltage.
If the DC voltage exceeds the value given by curve e at time T, anode current will begin to flow until it is interrupted at 02, when the anode potential becomes negative, that is, the anode current is hatched during FIG drawn part of the period. Accordingly, the mean anode current, which is determined by the size of the partial period in which the anode current flows, depends on T, that is, on the point in time at which the grid voltage exceeds curve e.
The closer <I> T </I> is to 0i, the greater the mean anode current. The mean anode current also depends on the amplitude of the anode voltage, because this, together with the external circuit, determines the size of the anode current once it has started to flow. All of this is well known.
7 shows T as a function of the amplitude of the grid voltage. e, is the same curve as in FIG. 6, only on a larger scale.
ei, es, there are three grid voltage curves of the same phase, but different amplitudes. At ei the amplitude is smaller than the maximum value of e "at it is equal to this maximum value, at it it is so much greater than this maximum that the curve shown in the drawing eats valve part 1 practically vertically. The curves <I> ei, \ </I> e2, the curve e intersects at the points Ti, T2,
T3. Therefore, if the amplitude of the grid voltage is not large compared to the critical maximum voltage, whoever the time Ti and therefore also the mean anode current change with the amplitude. If, on the other hand, the amplitude is so large compared to the maximum grid voltage that the curve is practically vertical where it intersects e, no further change occurs as a function of the amplitude.
As long as this condition is met, T and the mean anode voltage are independent of the exact value of the amplitude of the grid voltage and depend only on the phase; T then also approximately coincides with the point at which the sign of the grid voltage is reversed. In the following, the expression "critical grid voltage" is always understood to mean the maximum critical grid voltage.
The present invention is based on the contexts explained above. According to the same, the device for monitoring the power factor has a gas-filled triode. The anode of the triode is kept at a voltage that is in phase with the voltage of the circuit in which the power factor is to be monitored. The grid of the triode is kept at a voltage that is in phase with the current of said current circuit, the amplitude of this grid voltage is much greater than the critical grid voltage of the triode.
However, the anode can also be kept at a voltage that is in phase with the current in the circuit and the grid at a voltage that is in phase with the voltage in the circuit.
Here the expression "in phase with" is used in a considerably broader sense than is customary. Usually it is said that two quantities x, y, expressed by <I> x = A </I> cos (pt) <I> y </I> = B cos (pt + 9P), are in phase with each other only then if 99 = 0.
But here and in the following, the expression that they are in phase with one another should apply as long as 9p is constant during any measurement or regulation process.
If x denotes the voltage (or, the current) of the circuit, and <I> y </I> denotes the grid (or anode) voltage controlled by <I> x </I> which is in phase with x in the above sense is, the size of the angle cp can be varied by including a phase-shifting network of known construction between the circuit and the electrode controlled by it.
The best value for 99 will depend on the problem at hand; it will be given in each of the various exemplary embodiments of the invention.
The accompanying drawing illustrates schematically five exemplary embodiments of the device.
Fig. 1 shows an apparatus in which the power factor is measured; Fig. 2 shows an embodiment in which the power factor is regulated by means of a synchronizer;
Fig. 3 shows a device in which the power factor is controlled by means of capacitors and associated choke coils. FIG. 4 shows a further embodiment according to which the power factor is regulated by connecting static capacitors in parallel with the load.
Fig. 5 shows a variant of the Vorrich device according to FIG. 4: represents.
In FIG. 1, the loader 2 is supplied with current from the current source 1. 9) is the gas-filled triode, whereby it is assumed that it is an indirectly heated cathode. The cathode of the triode is connected to one of the main terminals and the anode through a resistor 4 and an Am meter 5 with the other main terminal. The load circuit contains the primary coil of a transformer 6, eat secondary coil 7 between the grid and cathode of the triode 3: is connected. A phase-shifting network 9 is connected between the secondary coil 7 Se and the grid circuit.
If the power factor of the load 2 varies, the phase difference between the anode and grid current circuit of the triode is changed. This change will generally also change the mean anode current read in the ammeter 5.
The principles according to which the network 9 is to be selected proceed from FIGS. 6 and 7. According to this, the phase of the grid voltage has no influence on: the mean anode current, provided that the grid voltage only exceeds curve e when the anode voltage is negative.
With the help of the network 9, such a phase difference is preferably effected that, when the power factor to be measured has approximately reached its mean value, the rising grid voltage curve intersects curve e, at point T when the anode voltage reaches its positive maximum has reached.
The ammeter 5 can then be calibrated directly within the limits of the power factor.
Fig. 2 shows how a gas-filled triode can be used, not only to measure the power factor of the circuit, but also to regulate it by means of a synchronous motor.
It is known that the power factor of a circuit can be regulated by connecting the stator of a synchronous motor in parallel via the power supply and varying the excitation current of the rotor. The excitation current is usually supplied by a DC generator that is mechanically coupled to the synchronous motor. The excitation current is varied by changing the field current of this generator by switching on resistors or similar means.
In Fig. 2: 'the connections. Of the gas-filled triode itself are the same as in Fig. 1. The parts labeled 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 9 play the same role in both figures. Only parts 4 and 5 of Fig. 1 are replaced by field coils 4 'of the direct current generator 110. These field coils, which are excited by the gas-filled triode, are conveniently separated from auxiliary circuit coils 11 with which the generator is normally provided.
Every change in the power factor in the circuit, caused by a change in the load, then causes a change in: the excitation of the direct current generator and thus also a change in the excitation circuit of the synchronous machine 12. The latter is connected in parallel with: the Bela.ster 2.
A change in your excitation circuit will also cause a change in the power factor of the circuit. It is clear that: this latter change can be effected with such a sign that it corresponds to the original change: des. Power factor: rs counteracts and: hence the change in the power factor: which: was caused by: the change in the load.
Since: the regulation, it is usually the purpose of the power factor to keep it as close as possible to the unit, the network 9 and the coils 4 @ are usually dimensioned in such a way that the power factor is equal to the unit under normal load. However, this is not essential and the device can be designed in such a way that it counteracts any deviation of the power factor from a specific setpoint value, which can be quite different from the standard value.
The size of the compensating change that is caused by the change in the excitation circuit of the machine 12 should of course be regulated in such a way that the compensation is as complete as possible. The manner in which this regulation is carried out is clear to any person skilled in the art, but it should be noted that if the circuit is arranged as in Fig. 2, the compensation never. can be complete, just as the regulation of a steam engine by the centrifugal regulator can never be complete.
Namely, as one approaches the conditions for full compensation, the compensation means necessarily cease to be effective. This is inevitable as long as the transformer 6, which supplies the grid voltage in the triode, between the current source 1 and the compensation means 12 is switched on. If however:
Before the transformer 6 is switched on between the compensation means 12 and the loader 2, a different situation arises. Because now the introduction of the compensating effects cannot change the state of the triode, which is now influenced by the state of the load and not by the state of the power source.
Rather, the compensating effect is determined exclusively by the power factor of the load and in no way by the power factor of the power source, which can depend on the size of the load. The effect can be chosen so that the compensation eats completely when the belas-hang has a particular value. But the compensation will not be complete if the load is different.
This disadvantage can be eliminated if the level of the compensation effect generated is made dependent on the size of the load and its power factor. If cos 9p is the power factor of the load and I2 is the current intensity, then the wattless current that needs to be added to the load to make the power factor of the combined currents equal to the unit is I,
sin 9p. If cos 9p is not very different from the unit, the mean anode current in the triode can be made to sing proportionally. The task then is so much. to introduce wattless electricity that! it is proportional to the product of two quantities, namely the I, the load and the mean anode current, which is proportional to sin 9p.
Methods for performing this task are readily available to those skilled in the art. For example, one can use the fact that the torque in a dynamometer is proportional to the product of the currents flowing through its coils. But the exact design of the compensation means required for this is seldom justified. In general one will choose one of the two simple methods in which the compensation depends only on the power factor.
The particular circumstances of the task will then determine which of these two compensation methods is to be preferred and in which of the two positions the transformer 6 is to be placed as a result.
Fig. 3 shows how a gas-filled triode can be used to automatically @zu regulate the power factor, with the help of static capacitors and associated inductors. It is known that the capacitance of a capacitor used to regulate the power factor can be reduced to a large extent if an inductance is connected in series with it.
If the circuit, which consists of a capacitor and an inductance connected in series, is tuned to a frequency that is a little higher than that of the current supplied, so.
its response to the latter frequency will be negative. and at the same time equal to the reactance of a capacitor with a much larger capacity than that of the capacitor actually present in the circuit. If the inductance is reduced a little, the reaction of the circuit is increased and its effect on the power factor of the circuit changes.
Now the anode current of a gas-filled triode can be used to vary the inductances in various known ways. If the inductance has an iron core, the current can be used either to: partially saturate the core or to change the relative position of the core and coil. Fig. 3 refers to the application: the first of these methods. The transfer symbols 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 9 again denote the same parts as before.
The capacitor C and the inductor L, which are connected in series, are, as mentioned, tuned to a frequency which is slightly higher than that of the current source 1. <B> 10 '</B> is a choke coil in the anode circuit the triode and linked to the iron core of L. 11 is a capacitor and 12 is an induction coil not linked to the core L. 11 and 12; are in a known, way like that. dimensioned so that: the alternating current component of the anode current largely passes through 11, while the direct current component passes through 10.
A change in the power factor in the circuit causes a change in: the:: current passing through the coil 10 and thus also: the saturation of the iron core L. A change in saturation: of the iron core changes the inductance of L and thus also the reactance The circuit consists of capacitor e and coil L, because this reactance depends on L in the manner already mentioned. The changes in the reactance caused by this then cause a further change: The power factor: In the circuit As before, the sign of this further change can be made opposite to that of the original change.
The same considerations as above apply to the size of the change. Here, too, there are two compensation methods depending on the position of the transformer 6. FIG. 4 shows another device in which the compensation takes place in stages and not continuously.
In this exemplary embodiment, it is more advantageous to use the second of the above-mentioned Kompens.ierungs- methods and: accordingly, the transformer 6 is arranged between the compensation means (C1, C2, C3) and the load 2. The transfer symbols 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 9 here again denote: the same parts as before.
However, the relays R1, R2, R3 are arranged in series with the resistor 4 and part of the latter. (Of course: the number of these relays can be any number and more or less than: three).
These relays are designed so that they respond to different currents, such that: if the power factor has a lagging phase angle and the current going through resistor 4 and the relays decreases, relay Bi first,: then R2 and then R3 come into effect one after the other. Each of these relays includes:
while the associated switch S'1, S'2 respectively. rS'3 and, so turns on the compensation capacitor Ci, C2, C3, which reduces the d; m delay angle. The relays can receive a bias voltage from an independent power source so that they work with suitable values: the anode current of the tri ode.
The reason for the arrangement of the transformer 6 between the loader and the compensation means in this compensation method is that - the compensation is essentially discontinuous and that the first compensation method, in which: the transformer is between the compensation means and the power source, is on let gives to commuter leg catch. Nevertheless, this method is less useful in certain circumstances.
If, for example, the number of capacitors is large, then the discontinuity in the connection can be made practically negligible. On the other hand, the pendulum phenomena can be counteracted by other means Provide leeway between actuation and waste streams.
Or the actuation of the relay in the phase of the phase shifting device 9 can introduce an additional phase shift which is almost the same: the phase change which caused the circuit. Other devices: of this type can also be used.
Fig. 5 shows an arrangement that is similar in principle to that of FIG. 4, but in which the relays for switching the capacitors are replaced by valve switches which .the .the same function. These valve switches consisting of two triodes are shown in FIG. 5 with B1, B2 respectively. B3 called. The reference numerals 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9 again relate to the same parts as before.
The individual triodes of these valve switches are connected in parallel, but in opposite directions instead of the switches in FIG. A single triode of a valve switch carries current during one half period, the alternating current source, the other single triode during the other half period.
In order for each individual triode to pass current during the entire half-cycle, it is necessary, as FIG. 6 shows, that: the grid voltage is in phase with the anode voltage (in the more common, narrower sense of the word).
Accordingly, the grid is fed via a phase shifter 17 from the winding 15 of a transformer 16, so that the grid voltage has an alternating voltage component in phase with the anode voltage.
Esc is required: that each valve: cha, 1- ter only lets current through when the anode current of the control triode <B> 3 </B>, which changes depending on the power factor, reaches certain values.
For this purpose, a direct voltage (bias voltage) is superimposed on the alternating voltage component of the grid voltage, which changes depending on the anode current of the control triode 3.
It can be seen from FIGS. 6 and 7: that the superimposition of a negative bias voltage, which is greater than the amplitude of the alternating voltage component of the grid voltage, prevents a discharge from occurring at all. This negative bias is pressed on
by .dening the anode current of the control triode 3 via a resistor 4 and connecting the ends of the resistor 4 via a low-frequency filter to a potentiometer 13, to the component of the voltage drop. 4, which owns the frequency: the AC power source, cancel.
This component must. can be made ineffective, because it would disturb the phase relationship existing between grid voltage and anode voltage, brought about by means of the network 17 which shifts the phase.
The various valve holders Bi, B2, B3 are given different levels of pretension by connecting the grids to various <B> branch </B> branch points of the potentiometer.
In the scheme, the valve switch B2 has a stronger negative bias voltage than the switch Bi and: the switch B3 again a stronger than:
the valve holder B2. If the power factor of the main power source assumes a lagging phase angle, the potentials across resistor 4 and consequently across resistor 13 fall to a value such that: with suitable control of the circuit, the positive grid potential spike on a triode: of the valve stop Bi: dem Current allows, during a half period: to flow through the capacitor Ci.
The reversal of the voltage during the second half cycle then allows the other triode of the valve switch to discharge the capacitor Ci. A further decrease in the delay angle of the power factor then also reduces the constant bias voltage on the three valve switches to: the second switch B2 operates in the manner described above and switches on the capacitor C2.
Then comes: the switch Ba in function when there is another change in the power factor and switches on the capacitor C3. It should be noted that although the capacitors C are shown for the sake of convenience on the right-hand side of the transformer 6, they are nonetheless switched on the left-hand side of this transformer. The transformer 6 is located between the compensation means and the loader, as in FIG. 4.
