Apparatus for drilling wells and the like. The present invention relates to an apparatus for soundings, boreholes, excavations, wells digging and other similar operations, remarkable in that it is constituted by a clamshell whose working tools are mounted at the base of a long body -of substantially cylindrical shape as surant the guidance -of said bucket in the cavity to be dug and whose weight is large enough to allow the soil to be worked by percussion.
In the accompanying drawings, given only by way of example: FIG. 1 is a vertical section of an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention; The fi-. 2 is a plan view of the lower crown of said apparatus, carrying the work tools; The fi-. 3 shows, in vertical, partial section, another embodiment of the support organ for the working tools; Fig. 4 is the corresponding plan view; The fi-. 5 and 6 are views similar to FIGS. 3 and 4 of another variant;

Fig. 13 is a corresponding plan view; Fig. 14 is a longitudinal section of a bucket head also provided with longitudinal channels for the same purpose; Fig. 15 is the corresponding plan view.
According to the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the apparatus comprises an elongated body 1 of substantially cylindrical exterior shape or, preferably, slightly conical section comprising at its upper part a: ring or hook 2 for fixing a cable 3. The body 1 is hollowed out and comprises upper -compartments 4 containing lubricating oil which can flow inside the body 1 through holes 5.
This body contains the maneuvering mechanism which comprises a group of pulleys 6 mounted on an upper axis 7 and a second group of pulleys 8 mounted on an axis 9 carried by a block 10 capable of sliding in the recess 11 -corps 1. A shoulder 12 at the upper part of the body 1 forms a stop for the block 10.
A cable 13 attached by an end at 14 to the body 1 passes over the slack pulleys 6 and 8 and over a guide pulley 15 mounted loose to the upper part of the body 1.
At the base of the body 1 is fixed, by bolts 16 or any other suitable means, a crown 17 centered on the body 1 by a circular shoulder 18 and the inside diameter of which is smaller than the outside diameter of the block 10.
The crown 17 comprises -clevises 19 in a number equal to the number of gripping members 20 (two. In the example shown in Figs. 1 and 2) and forming articulation knee pads for these members. Each yoke 19 carries an axis 21 which passes through a central rib 22. Of one of the shells 20 of the bucket. In the open position -des shells 20 (as shown .à la fie. 1), the rib 22 bears against the ring 17 which forms a stopper in the direction of opening.
This rib 22 is extended internally to the shell 20 by a flat arm 23 engaging in a central screed 24 and connected to a cheek of this yoke by an axis 25 passing through said arm by an elongated opening 26. The arm 23 of the other shell 20 is re linked in the same way to the other cheek of the yoke 24 (fia ,. 2).
This yoke 24 is fixed to the base of the block 10 and comprises, for this purpose at the upper part a tenon 27 penetrating. In an appropriate housing 28 -of the block and held in place by a key 29 (fia ,. 1) .
The operation is as follows: The device is lowered onto the material to be lifted from it, the bucket being open and the opening cable 3 being kept taut, while the cable is given slack @de closing 13. The bucket being open on the material, one pulls on the closing cable 13 and slack is given to the opening cable 3. The slack block 10 rises in the body 1 causing a rotation of the shells 20. direction of arrows.
The bucket is opened by giving .du slack in the cable, closure 13 and keeping it lifted by the cable 3. The block 10 then descends into the body 1 and causes the rotation of the shells 20 in the opposite direction of the arrow.
If the ground to be excavated is not very hard, the two hemispherical two-bladed shells, described above, may be sufficient to excavate it. But if the ground is made up of stony cuttings, it will be preferable to use either three-bladed shells, or -claw shells or other shells designed especially for terrain of particular consistency.
For this purpose, one can easily separate .from the body 1 the crown 17, which carries the shells 20,. And the yoke 24 of the block 10 to replace the set .couronne 17, shells 20 and yoke 24 by another set better appropriate to the nature of the land.
There is shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 one of these interchangeable sets, in which the crown 17 comprises four yokes 19 serving as the articulation of four claws 30 (the number of these yokes and of these claws could be quite different) each comprising a rib or a flat arm 31. Each arm 31 engages in a deep groove 32 of a yoke 24 comprising as many grooves 32 as there are claws 30. The arms 31 are articulated in these grooves by means of pins 33 which pass through elongated openings 34 formed in these arms.
According to the exemplary embodiment shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, the crown 17 carries three shells 20 (only one of them is shown in fig. 5) whose central ribs 23 are articulated in a deep groove 32 of a yoke 24 with three grooves. .
According to the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 7, the elongated cois of the body of substantially cylindrical exterior shape or -preferably slightly frustoconical is formed by the superposition of a cylindrical-spherical cap 1, a crown 1a, a cylindrical part lb and a lower crown 17 on which are articulated, at 21, the shells 20 or other bodies .de 1a bucket. These shells are connected to a piston 10 sliding in the cylinder lb under the action of a cable 13 passing over pulleys 6 and 8.
On the cap 1 is fixed, in 2, the lifting cable 3.
The spherical cap 1 which forms the head of the bucket being removable, it allows access to the interior of the. bucket, in the case where, for example, the piston 1.0 would be blocked.
When the ground! To be dug is particularly hard, the crown 1a can be interposed as shown between the ey- '_indrique part lb and the cap 1, which has the effect of increasing the own weight of the bucket and its length, hence a better gui da; e to obtain a well vertical well. This crown may have a great thickness, so that it has a significant weight.
It can be connected by any provision to. la, spherical cap 1 and -to the cylindrical part lb. This ring Ia can, for example, be in two parts connected by two bolts 4-0 (fi- ,. 8). These parts are re linked by circular grooves 41 to the cylindrical part 1 (FIG. 7). The inside of the crown 1a is only hollowed out to allow passage for the cable 13.
Jade crowns -different lengths can be provided depending on the nature of the terrain, or the type of work to be performed.
The bucket can be used to work in a tube 42 (fig. 7), metal or any other material.
With a view to driving the tube 42 into the cylindrical part of the bucket and preferably towards the upper part, for example in the crown 1a is formed a circular groove 43. In this groove 43 is placed a collar 44 (fig. 7 and 9) which can be provided in two parts assembled by any means, for example using bolts 45.
The outside diameter @de this collar 44 -dé passes the -diameter -of the crown 1a in a sufficient quantity so that it can bear on the end of the tube 42.
The bucket is placed in the tube 42, its cylindrical part forms a guide, and by letting it fall on the tube, like a sheep, it pushes this tube vertically.
Then the collar 44 is removed and the bucket operates normally for the digging.
When the skip works in areas of soft consistency: mud, mud, diluted sand, etc., it is in the interest of increasing the gripping capacity of the skip, that is to say its useful volume. In this case, we add to the lower part of the bucket a cylindrical crown 46 (fig. 10 and 11) which is interposed between the crown 1.7 carrying the gripping members, and the cylindrical part lb. In this way, the bucket sinks into the ground, by its own weight which is increased.
Crowns 46 .de different lengths can be provided depending on the nature of the land and the type of work to be performed.
A rod 47, of a suitable length, forming an extension, is placed between the piston 10 and the part 24 actuating the shells 20.
For work in submerged land to facilitate the descent of the bucket into the water and to avoid the suction forces which occur especially if the bucket works in a tube, the piston 10 instead of being full will preferably be perforated. channels 48, so as to leave as large a passage as possible for the water. For example, the arrangement may be that shown in Figs. 12 and 18.
The cap 1 ending the spherical part of the bucket is itself perforated with channels 49 to also allow the passage of water, for example, according to the arrangement shown in FIGS. 14 and 15.
For submerged and soft soils, the points of articulation 21 of the shells will preferably be transferred outside the diameter of the cylindrical parts lb-la and of the spherical cap 1 to avoid suction forces when the pump is raised. bucket (Fig. 11) leaving a sufficient gap 50 between this cylindrical part and the internal walls of the tube or well.
For extremely hard ground, the shells 20 can be replaced by a solid bit, of suitable shape, making it possible to cut very hard ground. This trephine is then replaced by a shell -of suitable shape to extract the spoil.
Devices of the type described above can be used to work the soil by percussion. They can be used like a sheep to break up the soil by pounding. They can be dropped from several meters high and then closed again to scrape the material to be removed by means of the shells 20 or the claws 80.
Their use is particularly interesting for the digging of small diameter wells requiring the use of small skip, because the substantially cylindrical body 1 makes it possible to use the available space of the skip to the maximum and to have a heavy weight even for small devices. The body 1 adapts to the diameter to be hollowed out and serves as a guide device for the bucket.
These devices are also very robust. The shape of the body 1 which is substantially cylindrical, which replaces the usual frames or tie-rods of the skips, allows this body to withstand violent shocks.
The closing mechanism being housed in the body 1, which is closed at the upper part and the lower part of which is blocked by the block 10, and therefore protected from contact with sand, soil, soil. stones that would interfere with the proper functioning of the appliance.
Of course, the device with two cables for opening and closing the bucket could be replaced by any other device generally used for grab buckets, with one or more cables or closing chains and one or more cables or opening chains.
Naturally, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments shown and described which have been chosen only as an example.
