Or, les machines actuelles sont agencée de manière à percer dans l'ouvrage un trou d'une dimension nettement supérieure à celle de la partie tubulaire de l'élément femelle, afin d'éviter que ce dernier ne se déforme contre l'ouvrage, au lieu de pénétrer dans le trou dudit ouvrage, en cas de désaxage en tre le trou de l'ouvrage et l'élément femelle. Ces machines ne remplissent donc pas la pre mière condition susindiquée. D'autre part, avec les machines actuelles;
Aux - dessin annexés, donnés uniquement à titre d'exemple: Les fig. 1. à 8 représentent, en coupe sui vant leur axe, avant pressage et après pres sage, différents types de rivets, susceptibles :d'être employés avec la machine selon l'inven tion (pour plus de simplicité :dans ces figures; ces rïvets ont été supposés présenter des sec tions circulaires); La fig. 9 représente, en élévation, une machine suivant l'invention; La fig. 10 est une vue partielle à plus grande échelle montrant la table mobile, son mécanisme de commande, ainsi que les or ganes adjacents;
La fig. 1.1 est une coupe suivant la ligne 11.-.l1 de la fig. 10; La. fig. 12 représente, en élévation, avec arrachement partiel, le marteau, le dispositif de poussée -de l'élément mâle et les organes connexes, pour la pose du rivet représenté aux fig. 1 et 2; Les fig. 1.3 à 18 représentent, en coupe verticale, les différents stades de la pose de ce rivet;
(fig.
Automatic machine for setting rivets composed of a male element and a female element. The invention relates to an automatic machine for setting rivets composed of a male element and a female element.
To achieve a solid connection using rivets of this type, the following conditions must be met: 10 The rivet shank must fill, as completely as possible, the hole drilled for its passage through. through the work; 20 The work, interposed between the two heads of the rivet, must remain clamped, once the rivet has been made.
However, current machines are arranged so as to drill a hole in the structure of a dimension markedly greater than that of the tubular part of the female element, in order to prevent the latter from deforming against the structure, instead of entering the hole in the said structure, in the event of an offset between the hole in the structure and the female element. These machines therefore do not fulfill the first condition mentioned above. On the other hand, with current machines;
it is necessary to use rivets in which the internal diameter of the knockout of the female element is notably larger than the external diameter of the end of the male element, in order to allow surely "crimping. "of the male element in the female element (operation which is especially difficult when the type of rivet used comprises a knocked-out male tubular element, that is to say open at its end intended to be crimped and therefore unsuitable for guiding of the female element).
However, the exaggerated value of .ce>, packing clearance "between the male element and the female element does not make it possible to suitably fulfill the second general condition stated above.
Indeed, if the increase in section of the end of the male element, deformed by the riveting operation, does not exceed the interlocking clearance, the assembly will not present any solidity. In other words, the rivet will be all the more solid that of: external diameter: of the internal end of the male element will be closer to the internal diameter of the, tubular part of the female element.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks. For this purpose, the machine according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a riveting hammer cooperating with the male element, a riveting die cooperating with the female element, a thrust member intended to penetrate the 'male element in the hole -de .l'euvre, until the inner end of said male element protrudes from the surface of the work and organs to synchronize the movements:
of said hammer, of said die and: of said thrust member, so that said die produces the engagement of the female element on the inner end of the male element, while the latter occupies the position extreme given to him by the thrust member.
In this way, instead of making the tubular part of the female element penetrate into the hole in the structure and risk -deforming the latter at the slightest misalignment between this element and the hole in the structure, the male element is made to penetrate through the other end of the hole, preferably until the base of this element comes into contact with the corresponding surface of the work, and this is the protruding end -of the tubular part -of the male element which serves to guide the female tubular part relative to the hole in the orifice, once the crimping is done.
It is thus possible to cause the riveting without risk of accidental deformation, while drilling in the work a hole whose section does not exceed the dimension necessary for the penetration of the tubular part of the female element in the hole. of the book. In addition, the embeequetage is facilitated by the fact that it is carried out outside the hole in the book.
Nevertheless, the interlocking is more: difficult to achieve when the walls: of the male element have at the end, around: the knockout, a slice clearly perpendicular to the axis.
This slice constitutes, in fact, an annular flat surface against which the knocked-out end of the female element may come up against, when attempting to crimp, at the slightest misalignment between the two elements, if the spigot play. tage is reduced to a low value, as the solidity of the assembly requires. To avoid this risk, without increasing the interlocking clearance, the machine according to the invention may include a special mandrel, associated with the thrust, and intended to engage in the male element,
said mandrel having at its lower end a bulge, preferably elastically compressible in the diametral direction, intended to hide the projection, formed by the edge @ of the-: said male element around the stem of the sleeve, threaded without sensitive play in the knockout, as well as to guide the female element during the embecquetage.
In addition to its role as a mutual centering member: of the two rivet elements, the mandrel can also fulfill the role of a feed member, which results in a significant simplification of the feed devices. machine, as will appear below.
In the accompanying drawings, given only by way of example: Figs. 1 to 8 show, in section along their axis, before pressing and after pressing, different types of rivets, capable of: being used with the machine according to the invention (for simplicity: in these figures; these rïvets were supposed to have circular sections); Fig. 9 shows, in elevation, a machine according to the invention; Fig. 10 is a partial view on a larger scale showing the movable table, its operating mechanism, as well as the adjacent organs;
Fig. 1.1 is a section taken along line 11 .-. 11 of FIG. 10; Fig. 12 shows, in elevation, with partial cutaway, the hammer, the pushing device -de the male element and the related members, for fitting the rivet shown in FIGS. 1 and 2; Figs. 1.3 to 18 represent, in vertical section, the different stages of the installation of this rivet;
Fig. 19 shows a variant of the machine, usable in particular in the case of the rivet of FIGS. 5 and 6; Figs. 20, 21 and 22 represent different stages in the installation of this rivet.
The machine according to the invention is intended for the installation of any tubular rivets in two parts. By way of example, a few types have been shown in FIGS. 1 to 8.
In the example of fig. 1 and 2, the male element A is open at its two ends 1 and 2 and its walls, around the knockout 2a, present at the end an annular slice per pendicular to the axis of the element; on the other hand, the female element B comprises a solid cap 3.
In the example of fig. 3 and 4, the male element A is open at its .deux ends 1 and 2, but its walls around the knockout 2a, of smaller diameter than in the preceding rivet, are elusive; on the other hand, the cap 3 of the female element B is pierced in its center at 4.
In the example of fig. 5 and 6, the male element A is closed at 2 at its end intended to be riveted and its base is provided with a cap 5; the female element B is also wedged at 8.
Finally, the rivet of fig. 7 and 8 is composed of a male element A not capped, but closed in 2, and a female element B capped in 3.
Of course, the female element B could still not be capped and then be reduced to its tubular part; it would present, in this case, the appearance of a simple carnation.
The machine shown in fig. 9 to 18 is supposed to be intended for the installation of the rivet shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. It consists of a frame formed by a horizontal table 7 (fig. 9, 10, 11), held at a suitable height by a fixed base 8, and several posts 9, braced at the upper part by longitudinal members 10. In the plane of the fixed table 7 is mounted a movable table 11, able to slide in a horizontal direction parallel to the median longitudinal plane of the machine; this mobile table 11 passes under a fixed work-holder bridge 146.
The table 11 carries a domed anvil 12, pierced with a hole 13 of vertical axis, for the passage of a punch at the time .du drilling.
Above the table 11, estdisposé vertically a .hollow hammer 14 .described below and which constitutes a-riveting tools. This hammer 14, serving as a guide, along its axis, for a feed and pushing device, which cooperates with a distributor 15 of the male parts A of the rivets, is itself guided in the slides 16 carried by the lon gerons 10; it is capable of receiving a vertical reciprocating movement, under the action of a substantially horizontal lever 17 pivots on an axis 18 fixed on the side members 10.
A roller 19, carried by an arm 20 pivoting on the frame at 21, can be pressed on the lever 17, by acting on a lever 22 terminating the arm 20, a stop 23 limiting at rest the raising of this arm 20 under the action of a spring 24. Below the hammer 14 is a punch device, carried by a support arm 25, integral with the movable table 11, so that the axis of the The punch coincides with the axis of the hole 13. This punch device can be formed as follows (Figs. 10 and 11).
When the movable table 11 is in its drilling position, in the axis of the hammer 14 is presented the punch 26, guided in a vertical sleeve 27 sliding vertically in the support 25, fixed to the movable table 11. L 'cookie cutter 2,6 rests on the bottom of the sleeve 27, screwed into a plate 28 fixed to a rod 29, capable of moving vertically through the support 25. The upper end of the rod 29 carries two rollers 30 , 31, -disposed on either side of a part 32 forming a ramp and secured to the hammer 14.
The vertical guide of the plate 28 is completed by a finger 33. In the axis of the hammer 14, below the table 11 is mounted, sliding vertically in the frame, a lower movable die holder 34, of which the die 35, adjustable in height relative to the die holder 34, cooperates, at the desired moment, as a riveting tool, with a conveyor device 36 of the female parts B of the rivets,
itself supplied by a feed device 37. A lever 38 (fig. 9), oscillating at 39 on the frame, controls the die holder 34 by a binocular 40 and is connected at its other end by a pin 41 to a rod -of adjustable length 42, hinged at 43 on a hollow slide 44, guided by a sliding internal rod 45, screwed into the mobile table 11. This rod 45, contained in the median longitudinal plane of the machine, is moreover parallel to the direction of translation of the movable table 11. A lug 46, fixed to the slide 44, passes through an elongated hole 47 in the rod 45. A spring 44a.
(Fig. 10) is interposed between the bottom of the slider neck 44 and a shoulder of the rod 45.
On the upper lever 17, is fixed, at 48 (FIG. 9), a lever 49 with a hinge 50, on which is articulated at 51 a rod -of adjustable length 52 also articulated at 43 on the slide 44. A spring 75, fixed at 76 on the lever 17 and at 77 on the connecting rod 52, tends to apply on the end 51 of the latter the lower face of the lever 17. The slide 44 is articulated at 43 to a yoke 53, integral with an eccentric collar 54 surrounding an eccentric 55, mounted on a shaft 56 of the machine.
It can be seen that the rotation of the shaft 56 and of the eccentric 55 produces a native alter movement of the slide 44, which first drives the rod 45 and the movable table 11 to the right, the movable table 11 being supposed to occupy at rest its drilling position, which corresponds to its left dead center. At the same time, this movement tends to straighten the connecting rods 42 and 52 by moving the points 41 and 51 apart, which produces the lowering of the hammer 14 and the lifting of the die holder -34. During this movement, the spring 24 keeps the arm 20 raised.
In the left hollowed part (fig. 9 and 10) of the movable table 11, is mounted sliding dovetail (fig. 9, 10, 11) the movable frame 57 of a lower opening clamp 58 of feed. , described later. This frame 57, which, in the rest position, abuts on the right against the solid part 11a of the mobile table 11, carries an adjustable stop 59, capable of coming to meet the base freezes 8 during the movements to the right of the movable table 11. A rod 60, integral with the frame 57 of the opening clamp 58, terminates in a head 61 on which a spring 62 is supported.
The other end of the spring 62 rests on a stop 63, carried by the mobile table 11 and traversed by the rod 60.
The stops 59 and 63, the rod 60 and the spring 62 are offset (fig. 9 and 10) behind the median longitudinal plane of the machine and are balanced by sjfmetric members with respect to this plane ( fig. 11).
The frame 57 of the opening clamp 58 has, towards the bottom (fig. 10), a solid bottom through which is drilled, along the axis XX of said clamp, a circular hole 57n whose diameter only greatly exceeds slightly the diameter of the die 35.
The position of the frame 57 -de the clamp or window 58, at rest, is such that the distance between. the X -X axis of the opening clamp 58 and the axis of the anvil 12 which then coincides with the Y-Y axis of the die 35 (Fig. 10) is less than the eccentricity of the eccentric 55.
Preferably, the machine which has just been briefly described is set up so as to operate automatically by virtue of any suitable control (electric motor, for example). The general control tree of the. machine is shown at 64 (fi- ,. 9). The shaft 64 drives the par shaft 56 by meshing pinions 65 and 66.
On the shaft 56 is mounted crazy the eccentric 55 mentioned above, connected: to this shaft by a coupling device -with automatic disengagement, arranged so as to make it possible to limit the rotation of the eccentric 55 to a single turn corresponding to a only back and forth movement -de the movable table 11. The operation of the lever 17, which can be performed by acting, to. the hand, on net 22, can be obtained automatically by the action of a mechanical control.
For this purpose, the right end of lever 17 (fig. 9) is articulated on a slide 67, in which slides a rod or connecting rod 68, so lidar of an eccentric collar 69 surrounding an eccentric 70, mounted idle on the shaft 64. On the rod 68 is fixed by nuts. 71 and 72, a bracket 73 carrying lugs 74 which guide the slide 67 -whose lower face is capable of receiving the contact of the upper face -of the nut 71. The eccentric 70 is connected to the shaft 64 by means of a coupling device with automatic disengagement, limiting the rotation of the eccentric 70 to a single revolution.
The general operation of the machine is as follows: The table 11 being in the position indicated in fig. 9, we first perform a Te perage of the position of the work relative to the punch 26, by lowering the latter, by lowering by hand the 'control edge 20, which produces the lowering of the hammer 14. Thus, the lower end of the holder 2-part 26 is brought closer to the work C, as much as is necessary for the marking.
Once the correct location of the work C has been obtained on the fixed work-holder trigger guard 146, this work is immobilized using the pressing members 200, then the engagement of the eccentric 70 drilling is caused. The nut 71, coming into contact with the slide 67, transmits to the latter the thrust received from the eccentric 70 of drilling. The lever 17 swings and the hammer 14 is lowered. The part 32, through the lower roller 30, lowers the rod 29 and, consequently, the plate 28 as well as the punch 26.
but the latter, meeting the work C shortly after, stops until it receives the pressure of the lower end 80 (fig. 10). of the hammer 14 which then forces it to descend further. The punch 26 pierces a hole 142 in the work C by cooperating with the hole 13, with which it has remained concentric thanks to the guiding of the sleeve 27 with respect to which it has been raised to meet the work C.
Then, while the eccentric 70 (fig. 9) continues its rotation limited to one revolution, the hammer 1.1 is raised under the action of the return spring 75, fixed, on the one hand, to the lever 17 at 76 and , on the other hand, to the connecting rod 52 by a fitting 77, as already indicated.
If, for some reason, the punch 26 is stuck in the hole 142 of the work C (jam), the part '32, in the upward movement of the hammer 14, lifts the upper roller 31 -the rod 29 and, consequently, the plate 28 and the punch 26, said plate 28 remaining suspended due by the rod 29 to the part 32, interposed between the rollers 30 and 31.
(This connection by suspension also remains during the posterior translation of the movable table 11, thanks to the appropriate shape of the part 32 defined below.) After rotation of one turn of the eccentric 70, one rotates one turn the eccentric 55. This movement causes the lowering of the hammer 14 and, at the same time, the lifting of the lower die holder 34 and of the die 35. Simultaneously, the slide 44 moves towards the right and, through the intermediary of the lug 46 and the rod 45, drives the movable table 11 to the right, in its outward stroke.
Before the end of the outward travel of this table, the frame 57 of the clamp or screw 58 is immobilized, by the meeting of the stop 59 with the base 8, in the riveting position that it reaches before at its lower part reaches the highest part -of the die 35 or any accessory part that this die may include,, of the htbe-guide 1.2.4 for example (the axis XX, fig. 10, of the opening gripper 58 then coincides with the YY axis of the hammer 14 and of the matrix 35).
The frame 57 is maintained in this position for the time necessary for the riveting operation, the spring 62 and the symmetrical spring absorbing the excess of the stroke of the. mobile table Il. In the meantime, as a result of the displacement of the.
movable table 11, the pen 12 is erased under, the work C, thanks to the groove 146a made for this purpose in the trigger guard 146, while the support arm 25, integral with the movable table 11, moved above the 'work C with!', punch 26, which allowed the hammer 14 to -de-descend towards the work C by not meeting either the aforesaid arm 25, nor carrying it - room 26.
The aforementioned shape of the part 32 is such that at each instant, during the simultaneous and perpendicular transla tions -of said part 32. and of the support arm 25, the point of suspension of the rod 29 on this part 32 occupies an invariable level above the work C. It follows that the punch 26 then moves, above the work C, at a constant distance from the upper surface of the latter.
In its lowering movement, the feed and thrust device, described later, causes the male part .f1 to penetrate. -of the rivet in the hole 142 drilled in the work C. Simultaneously, the die 35 has risen, after having received a de-rivet female part B, supplied by the feed device 37 and the conveyor 36 ( as described below) and cooperated with the opening clamp -58 to present said female element B at the lower end of the hole 142 of the opening C, the riveting being carried out in the manner described below .
The riveting being carried out: and the eccentric 55 continuing its rotation limited to one revolution, the hammer 14 and the die holder 34 move away from the work C, while the slide 44 moves to the left causing the table 1-1. The latter, thus effecting its return çaurse, itself drives to the left -, as soon as its solid part lla meets it, the frame 57 of the opening clamp 58, out of which the die 85 has emerged.
An adjustable stop screw 78 -of the fixed frame 8 immobilizes the frame 57, -as soon as it reaches. its rest position (Fig. 10), and the table 11 is mobilized by the stop, its solid part lla against the frame 57 immobilized as we said. A slight excess of the travel of the slide 44_ with respect to the travel of the movable table 11, limited -and by the stop 78, is absorbed by the spring 44a.
From the foregoing, it can be seen that this machine allows -de first to drill., In the part C, the hole 142, intended to receive the rivet and, without displacement of the part C, to effect the rivet installation exactly: in the axis, of the drilled hole.
The riveting device consists of an upper part, located above the table 7 and intended for the supply, unit by unit, of male elements A of rivets, as well as for the positioning of these male elements. in the holes of the work, and of a lower part, located below the table 7 and - intended for the feeding and the installation, unit by unit, of the female elements B.
The upper part of the above-mentioned device mainly comprises (fig. 9 and 12) the hollow hammer 14, closed at its base by a plug 79, forming a riveting tool by its pressing surface 80, and axially drilled at 81.
In this cylinder 14, can slide, with gentle friction, a. mandrel-holder piston 82, in which is keyed, at 83, a longitudinal rod 84, forming a mandrel, disposed along the longitudinal axis -du hammer 14. This rod. 84 is terminated, at its lower end, by a bulge 85. This bulge 85 is elastically compressible, thanks to two diametral slots 86: perpendicular for example.
The section of the rod 84, in its cylindrical part, is at most equal to the internal section of. the male tubular element 4., at the calf level. -of its knockout 2a (fig. 1). The section -of the widest part -of the bulge 85 (fig. 12) is, at rest, at least equal to the outer section of this male element at the level of its hole 2a, and, after total compression, at most equal to the internal section of the male element A, at the level of its knockout 2a.
On the rod to the mandrel 84 and through the hole 81 of the plug 79, can slide a sleeve 87, concentric with this rod 84 and serving as a thrust member. This sleeve 87 is terminated, at its base, by a surface d. substantially frustoconical support 88, internally limited by the diameter of the. rod 84 and externally by the diameter of the connection of the flat base 1 of the male element A with its slightly conical tubular part (fig. 1).
Thus, this sleeve 87 leaves on the outside, on the base 1 of element A, an annular space which will allow the lower edge 80 of the stopper 79 of the hammer 14 to come to press on said base 1 of the male A, in view to get the rivet.
The alternative movements, along the axis of the hammer 14 (FIG. 12), of the mandrel 84 and of the sleeve 87 are combined by a system of connecting rods 89 and 90 articulated, on the one hand, respectively at 91 and 92 on the piston 89 mandrel holder and on the sleeve 87, and, on the other hand, on a common axis 93. This axis 93 moves in a fixed cam groove 94. This cam 94 is rectilinear and parallel to the common axis mandrel 84 and hammer 14 -from a to b, then it bends in bc towards this axis, to end downwards with a second rectilinear part cd parallel also to this aforesaid axis .
We see that, thanks to. This connection, if the mandrel 84 descends under the action of any device at a determined speed, the sleeve 87 first follows it with the same speed, then the speed of the sleeve 87 increases in < I> bc, so that the, sleeve 87 takes an advance on the rod 84; the sleeve 87 then retains this same advance until the end of the downstroke.
The control of the mandrel-holder piston 82, and, consequently, of the sleeve 87, may be carried out in any manner appropriate to meet the general operating condition stated at the beginning and which may be translated here as follows: descent of the mandrel 84 and of the sleeve 87 much faster than the descent of the hammer 14 during the first part of the movement corresponding to the feed and to. the thrust of the male element A into the hole in the work C.
This result can be obtained using, for example, a lever 95 (fig. 9) -whose end 96, in the form of a fork, journals on the axis 91, carried by the piston 82 carries mandrel (fig. 12). This lever 95 oscillates around a fixed axis 97 (fig. 9) and its other end carries a lug 98, preferably provided with a roller, and guided by a cam groove 99 formed in a plate 100 , rigidly attached to the eccentric 55, which makes it positive control.
The upper riveting mechanism is completed by a device for dispensing male elements A of rivets. In the example shown, the oscillating distributor 15 is composed, as known, of a rotary housing 101, controlled by the machine mechanism by means of a -ro chet system 102 and supplying, by the slots 108 of its periphery, the slide 15a of the aforementioned distributor 15. This slide 15a is constituted by a groove attached to a sole 104. This sole 104 is integral with the bearing 105 of the axis of rotation 106 of the housing 101. This bearing 105 is mounted to oscillate on a fixed axis. 107, carried by the frame.
The casing of the rotary housing 101, carried by the bearing 105, is extended upwards by the funnel 108 facilitating filling. The oscillation axis 107 is placed in such a way that, under the action of its own weight, the entire distributor 15 tilts around the axis 107 in the direction of arrow f (fig. 9). The dispenser is held in the raised position by a pin 109, carried by the funnel 108 and engaging in an elastic fixed clamp 110 or any other fixed anchoring system.
This dispenser is completed by a device making it possible to return it to the anchoring position when it has been removed from it, or on the contrary to release it from the anchoring. This positive device comprises a part 111, fixed on the funnel. 108.
The end 112, bent down, -of, the part 111. is arranged in the manner. be encountered by a roller 113, carried by the end of an angled lever 114, tilting around a fixed axis 115 and the other end of which is arranged so as to be ïen; shown by a. roller-stop 116, carried by the connecting rod 68 - automatic drilling.
It can be seen that under the action of this connecting rod, the lever 1d1-1 swings in the direction of the arrow f2 and pushes back, via the end 112, the part 111, thus freeing the distributor from the elastic clamp 110.
The return to the anchoring position of the distributor is ensured by the movable table 11 during the end of its movement to the right, the anchoring corresponding to the, extreme position of the table 11 to the right. For this purpose, the support 25, integral with the movable table 11, carries a mast 117, which, towards the end of its stroke to the right, meets an adjustable stop 118, carried by a rod 119, articulated at 120 on the part 111 and crossing the mast 117 in a die 121, mounted @ to -cardan on said mast.
It can be seen that, when the table 1.1 ends its course towards the right, the mast 117 brings the stop 118 into the position shown in fi g. 9, thus causing the anchoring of the -distributor 15 in the elastic part 110.
The sole 104 of the slide 15a of the distributor 15 finally comprises a roller stop 122, offset outside the median longitudinal plane of the machine and capable of meeting the also offset face 123 of the support arm 25, thus limiting in the direction of the arrow fl the oscillation of the -distributor 15, released from the clamp 110 by the drilling operation, as already indicated, while the mobile table 11 occupies its rest position (extreme position towards the left).
After drilling, as the movable table 11 moves back to the right for the riveting, the distributor 15 can continue to tilt, under the force of gravity, until a fixed stop 201, adjustable, carried by the frame, meets the sole 104 of the slide 15a ..
This stop 201 is adjusted as a function of the shape of the sole 104, so that, when the distributor 15 is stopped by the aforesaid stop 201, the first male element A, contained in the lower end of the slide 15a and stopped by a spring lock 202, has its axis strictly coincident with the axis -longitudinal .du hammer 14- and -du mandrel 84.
The lower die holder 34 consists (fig. 9, 10 and 11) of a tube in which is mounted a die 35, the threaded lower end of which can be screwed or unscrewed from the outside (from below). in the die holder 34, when it is desired to adjust the height of the die -3-5 relative to the latter. This is, in its upper part,
toured by a guide tube 124 whose inner diameter is very slightly greater than the largest diameter - of the female element B and which has at its lower end a portion of larger outer diameter 125, against which rests a spring 126, the opposite end of which rests on a shoulder of the die 35. The tube 124 is held in place by a cap 127, screwed onto the die holder 34. The latter is guided in a vertical slide 128 forming part -the fixed base 8.
At its upper part, the guide tube 124 externally carries a roller 129 (FIG. 11) maintained in a plane parallel to that of FIG. 10, thanks to the lug 129a which the die 35 carries laterally and which slides without play in a longitudinal groove 129b of the guide tube 124, thus prevented from rotating, while it moves vertically with respect to the die 35. .
By adjusting the height of the matrix 35, one will have to. therefore screw or unscrew the latter a whole number of turns, in order to always bring the roller 129 in its aforesaid operating plane. This roller 129 is capable of rolling on a ramp 130 (FIG. 10) carried laterally by the left end of the horizontal blade 36, which, fixed under the mobile table 11, constitutes, as already said, the lower conveyor device. .
This blade 3.6 is terminated, on the left, by a vertical tube section 131 whose height is at least equal to that of the female rivet element B and whose internal diameter is equal: to that of the guide tube 124 with the axis of which its axis coincides, when the mobile table 11 is in its drilling position. The two tubes are then separated by a small gap.
Between the blade 36 and the movable table 11, at a distance: from axis to axis, from the die 35 equal to the stroke of the table 11, is arranged, presenting its vertical axis in the median longitudinal plane, a ring freezes distributor 132, serving as a relay and above which a chimney 133, crossing. the table 11 opens when said table 11 occupies its drilling position. The height of the relay ring 132 is at least equal to that of the female rivet element B, and its internal diameter as well as that of the chimney 133 are equal to that of the tube section 131.
Above -the chimney 133, opens, when the table 11 is in the drilling position, the horizontal outlet 134 of the slide 135 of the -disributor 37, further comprising a housing rotary 136 (fig. 9), analogous to the rotary housing 101 of the oscillating distributor 15. The aperture 134 has a passage section just sufficient to allow each element B, coming into abutment against the closed end of the slide 135, to exit by gravity, presenting its axis vertically, the cap 3 (fia-. 1) directed downwards.
Below the slat 36 (flg. 10) is placed a fixed horizontal floor 137 reaching up to the guide tube 124. The upper surface of this floor 137 </ B > is arranged so as to be very little below the level of the lower end of the tube section 131, carried by the blade 36, integral with: the mobile table 11, during the translation of this last. Below the relay ring 132, the upper surface of the blade 36 constitutes a floor on which the female element B rests, which comes to be housed in the relay ring 132.
As has just been said, the feed to the chimney 133 and consequently to the relay ring 132 is provided by a slide distributor 37 135. The feed to the slide 135 is controlled by a drawer 138 (fig. 9) integral with: an angled lever 139 oscillating at 140 on the frame and articulated at its other end at 1.41 on the triggering lever 114, which already, under the action of the automatic drilling mechanism. , releases the oscillating distributor 15 from the elastic gripper 110.
The operation of the feed and riveting device is as follows: The movable table 11 being in the position of FIG. 9, the drilling operation, as indicated above, causes, via the lever 114, the release of the winking bone distributor 15 whose roller 122 comes to bear: against the face 123 of the support arm 25. Then, the table 11 having moved back to the: right, the sole 104, under the action of gravity, meets the fixed stop 201.
At this moment, the first male element A, contained in the slide 15a from the elastic latch 202, has its axis disposed along the axis of the hammer 14 and of the mandrel 84. Furthermore, in the operation -de previous drilling, a female element B, released by the drawer 138, went down into the chimney 133 of the table 11, then into: the relay ring 132 where it remained housed, the floor formed by the upper surface of the blade 36 preventing it from descending lower.
After extreme recoil -of the table 11 and the blade 36 which is integral with it, this element fell into the section of tube 131 until it touched the upper surface of the floor 137. < / B> It was then pushed to the left, when the movable table 11 returned, and came by gravity to engage on the die 35 in the guide tube 124 which was lowered, in advance, to a suitable level, by the ramp 130, carried by the blade 36 and acting on the roller 129.
During its successive falls, defined above, the female element B retains its heaviest part, which is precisely its cap 3, directed downwards; so that at the end of the feed, this female element rests on the die 35 by directing its knocked-out end 6 upwards, even though the total height of the female element B would be less than the internal diameter of the tube -guide 124.
Ultimately, after the drilling operation, and when the movable table 11 has moved back to the right, on condition that this drilling is not the first to be carried out (in which case the die 35 would have to be filled beforehand with a female element B by lowering the tube 124 by hand), a male element A, carried by the slide 15a, is suitably disposed under the hammer 14 and a female element B is suitably placed - on the die 35 (fig. 13) .
Under the action of lever 95 and cam groove 94, mandrel 84 and bush 87 ash faster than hammer 14 (compare their positions, Figs. 12 and 13).
The elastic bulge 85 of the mandrel 84 meets the interior walls of the first male element A which the slide 15a carries from the latch 202 and it is compressed as it descends inside this male element A the inner section of which decreases, due to its slight taper, from then the base 1 to the knockout 2a. As soon as the bulge 85 has come out of the die 2a, it returns to its normal dimensions and the slide 15a, which had supported the male element A by resisting the penetrating force exerted by the mandrel, is discarded (fig. 14).
The elastic latch 202 opens under the pressure of the male element A, retained by the handle 84, and closes immediately after the release of the aforesaid male element.
By gravity, the male element A comes to rest by its knockout 2a on the bulge 85 of the mandrel, which continues to descend towards the hole 142 of the work C. But it is necessary to exert on the male element A a pressure, directed from top to bottom, which allows the male tubular part to overcome the resistance of the frictions born from its penetration into the hole 142 of the structure and which increase, due to the slight taper of this tubular part male, until the. meeting. of base 1 with the upper surface 143 of structure C (fig. 15).
This pressure is given by the concentric sleeve 87 which, thanks to the cam groove 94 and to the connecting rods 89 and 90, takes an advance relative to the mandrel .84. This sleeve 87 bears, by its frustoconical surface 88 on the male element A shortly after the latter has left the slide 15a and maintains the die 2a against the bulge 85 of the mandrel 84, during the penetration of said male element into hole 142 in structure C (fig. 14).
In other words, from the moment when the mandrel 84 has penetrated sufficiently into the hole 142 of the structure C to accommodate the height of its bulge 25 therein, the frustoconical bearing surface 88 of the sleeve 87 remains distant from the upper end of this bulge 85, by a distance equal to the length occupied by the male element A around the rod of.
mandrel 84 and this by the continuous succession of positive connections made by the connecting rods 89 = 90; it is thus allowed -to overcome the friction, which opposed the complete penetration of the male tubular part in the hole 142 -of the structure, until it meets the base 1 of the male element A with the upper surface 145 .of the work C. Thus the male element A is brought .in the stacking position (fig. 15 and 16) before the stopper 79 of the hammer 14 comes to press on its base 1.
The male element A retains this position until the embecquetage is achieved. To this end, the mandrel 84 and the sleeve 87 remain stationary, during this operation, moreover. Of short duration, thanks to a corresponding short circular part 99a of the cam-groove 99 (compare FIGS. 15 and 16).
Before perfecting, as will be seen below, the em # pecking - of the two elements A and B of the rivet, thanks to the bulge 85 of the mandrel 84, it is necessary to ensure an approximate preliminary centering of the female element B with respect to to the axis -of the riveting tools (which is also the axis of the hole 142 drilled in the work C, due to the principle of the machine).
In other words, during the upward movement of the die 35 and before the knocked-out end 6 of the female element B comes into contact with the bulge 85 of the mandrel 84 (FIG. 15), the axis of said core. female element B must be kept parallel to the axis of the riveting tools and substantially coincident with it.
This result is obtained thanks to the combination of the die 35, the guide tube 124 and the opening pliers .58 (fi. 13, 14 and 15) the guide tube 124 coming into contact with the plate or frame 57 around the hole 57a, before the die 35 enters said hole, which compresses the spring 126 (fig. 10).
The dimensions of the lower opening clamp 58 are calculated, from the dimensions of the female element B, so that the latter has the open end 6 of its tube engaged in the narrow neck 144 of the clamp 58 before the latter is forced to open under the pressure of the die 35 (fig. 13, 14 and 15).
Thus, when the female element B, in the upward course imparted to it by the matrix 35, reaches the level corresponding to the start of opening of the gripper 58 (FIG. 15), it has its axis substantially coincident with the axis. riveting tools. At this same instant, the open end 6 of the female element B is at a small distance from the lower surface 145 of the work C which is only separated from the top of the lower opening clamp 58 by the thickness constant of the bridge 146 (fig. 9 and 10), which covered by its solid part this clamp, opening during drilling.
This thickness (equal to the maximum projection of the domed anvil 12 above the upper level of the movable table 11 which is also substantially that of the lower opening clamp 58) remains constant .on either side of the groove 146a (fig. 13 to 18), under which Ja which has been housed, for the riveting, the clamp 58 and is chosen sufficient to allow, in the empty space of the groove 146a, to carry out the embecquetage of the two elements A and B of the rivet.
Under the action of the thrust of the die 35 in the direction of the work C, the two jaws of the opening clamp 58 move apart, against the springs 147, and the female element B, in its upward stroke, is guided by the bulge 85 - whose end has penetrated inside it shortly before the opening of the clamp 58 (fig. 15 and 16).
As soon as the female element B has engaged by its knocked out end 6 around the dark end 2 of the male element A, under the action of the cam groove 9'9 and the lever 95, the man drin 84 and socket 87, combined as already. seen, simultaneously upward the male element A at a speed at most equal to. that of the female element B pushed by the die 35. Meanwhile, the hammer 14 continues to descend.
Soon, the base 1 -of the male element A comes to meet the pressing surface 80 of the plug 79 of the hammer 14; the elements A and B are then in the position of fig. 17. For this position, the pressing surfaces 80 and 80 'of the riveting tool 79 and the die 35 are at, distances from the opposing surfaces 143 and 1:
45 of the work C proportional @ to their respective average speeds, so that the bases 1 and 3 .of the rivet parts A and B , pressed by said pressing faces of the riveting tools, simultaneously take contact with the work which must not be requested to leave its support surface neither upwards nor downwards.
From the position of, fig. 17, the die 35 and the hammer 14 continue to approach and complete the rivet (fig. 18), the knocked-out end 2 of the male element A opening out as shown (fig. 2).
But previously, as a result of the rise of the mandrel 84, the bulge 85, thanks to its connection without projection with the rod of said mandrel, was compressed by the knockout 2a of the male element A, the resistance of the bulge 85 to the compression being overcome by the positive connections which control the re-rise of the mandrel 84. Thus, before the maximum pressing of the rivet (fig. 18) takes place, the mandrel 84 and its bulge 85 are sufficiently withdrawn towards the center. high so that they. release the lower end 21 from the male element A.
The eccentric 55 continuing its rotation limited to one revolution, the hammer 14 goes up, while the die 35 goes back down, leaving the opening clamp 58 to close. The mandrel 84 and the sleeve 87 continue to rise and resume their respective rest positions (fig: 12).
During the riveting operation, the movable table II. after having reached its right dead center corresponding to the maximum pressing of the rivet, returns to the left as far as the drilling position, again ensuring the supply of the lower die 35 for the installation of the next rivet.
For the installation of rivets the elements of which are capped (rivets of the type of fig. 5 and 6), the machine shown in figs. 19-to 22.
According to this exemplary embodiment (FIGS. 19 to 22), the supply of male elements A is carried out using an upper opening clamp 177 with parallel leaf springs, of a known type. In this opening clamp 177, descends a button 178, mounted smoothly in the hammer 14, along the longitudinal axis of this hammer, and urged downwards by a spring 175. The force of the res out 175 is predominant on the axial reaction which is communicated to the male element A and to the fastener 178 by the oblique internal walls of the opening clamp 177 under the action of its springs.
This opening clamp 177 is supplied by a fixed distributor 178a when it is in the position of FIG. 19 (corresponding to the drilling). It is carried by a yoke 179 whose axis is common with that of a yoke 180, itself carried by a block 181 mounted to slide, thanks to a groove 182, in the support arm 25 integral with the sliding table. 11.
A spring 183, working under the tension, attached @ at one of its ends, on the block 181 and, at the other end, on the support arm 25, allows the driving of the opening clamp 177 by the movable table 11 at the start of its movement to the right.
This movement of the opening clamp 177 to the right is limited by a rod 184 carried by the block 181 and which meets a fixed stop 185, preferably adjustable. When your two pieces come into contact, the vertical axis of the channel of the opening gripper 177 coincides with the longitudinal axis of the hammer 14 and of the snap-fastener 178. The spring 188 absorbs the excess of the travel of the movable table. 11 to the right.
The device for supplying female elements B is identical to that already described with regard to the machine shown in FIG. 9.
The control -of the supply, depending on the drilling, is provided by the rod 186, capable of translation according to its own direction, and on which acts a roller 187, carried by the collar 69 of the drilling eccentric 70, which causes the maneuvers of -the drawer (directly controlled) 186a of the distributor 178a and of the drawer 186b of the -distribu tor 37, the latter drawer being controlled by an angled lever 186c.
The operation is as follows: on drilling, the fastener 178 descends with the hammer 14, but said fastener stops as soon as it meets the punch 26, the head of which has a complementary relief -of the concavity of the pressing surface 178 'of the die 178, this pressing surface 178'. matching the shape of the cap 5 shown here as convex. The clamp 178 thus immobilized momentarily, while the hammer 14 continues to descend, compresses the spring 1 7 5 until it receives direct pressure from the lower end of the hammer 14 which then drives it into its position. drilling stroke.
After the feed -of the upper opening clamp 177 and of the lower die 35 during drilling, the two elements, male A and female B, are brought between the riveting tools, to the right of the hole 142 -of the work C , by the rotation of the rivet eccentric 55.
Hammer 14 then descends; the spring 175 is not compressed during the path of the male element A in the opening clamp 177, as already seen, nor during the penetration of this element in the hole 142 of the work C, due to the force spring 175 greater than the resistance opposed by the walls of the structure C to the penetration of element A. This spring 175 is however compressed when (. base '1 of element A came to meet work C, hammer 14 continuing to descend (fig. 20).
When, after interlocking the female element B and the male element A, the latter will receive the thrust of the female element B, whose end 2 will have reached the cap 3, it will be driven upwards, thanks to the additional compression of the spring 175. This upward movement of the assembly will last until the snap 178, supported by its pressing surface 178 'on the capped base 5. of the male element A, receive the pressure (direct from hammer 14 (fig. 21).
At this time, the pressing surfaces 178 'and 80' of the die 178 and the die 35 are spaced from the opposing surfaces 143 and 145 of the work C proportional to their respective speeds; so that the bases of the rivet parts A and B pressed by said pressing surfaces of the riveting tools will simultaneously make contact with the work C (fig. 22) which must not be urged to leave its supporting surface, nor towards up, nor down.
Naturally, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments shown and described which have been chosen only by way of example.
