Process for the preparation of a new condensation product of the anthracite series. It has been found that a new "condensation product of the anthraquinone series is obtained if the N-dihydro-anthronazine is heated with acrolein-forming agents in the presence of condensing agents, such as, for example, sulfuric acid.
It takes place - with elimination of water and hydrogen, formation of dibenzanthronazine, an intensely colored compound that can be used as a dye or as an intermediate for the production of dyes. It can be recrystallized from quinoline, with reduction to N-dihydrodibenzanthronazine taking place.
The same crystallizes in dark needles that do not vat with hydrosulfite and caustic soda. The N-dihydrodibenzantbronazine dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a dark green color, which quickly changes to red-violet, whereby oxidation to azine takes place. When the solution is poured into water, blue azine sulfate precipitates.
When it is made alkaline, this is hydrated to form a dark brown precipitate - the azine itself. The azine turns blue-green with hydrosulfite, as the corresponding N-dihydrobenzanthronazine is formed back.
Example: 20 parts of N-dihydroanthronazirr (obtained according to Scholl and Berblinger, B. 36, 3436 (1903) by reducing N-dihydro-1.2.2'.1'-anthraquinonazine with hydriodic acid at 150- 160) are in a mixture of 1500 parts of sulfuric acid - 62 Be and 80 parts. Glycerine heated to 120. At 110 the liquid becomes viscous and turns blue as the olive-green azine sulfate disappears and a very fine, blue precipitate forms. At the same time, gas begins to develop, which is quite strong on further heating to 120.
After the main reaction has ended, the mixture is heated to 130 for 3/4 hours. After cooling, it is poured into water, filtered off with suction, the isolated reaction product is extracted with sodium hydroxide solution, washed alkali-free and dried. The crude dibenzanthronazine obtained in good yield can be crystallized from quinoline, with reduction to N-dihydrodibenzanthronazine taking place.
The above reaction can also be applied to anthronazines prepared in such a way. The N - dihydro -1. 2. For example, 2'.1'-anthra-quinonazine can also be reduced to N-dihydro-anthronazine as follows:
64 parts of N-dihydro - 1.2. 2'.1'-anthrachinonazine are dissolved in 850 parts of sulfuric acid (95%) at ordinary temperature. The solution is then warmed to 40 0 and carried into the same with good stirring over the course of an hour in small portions at 40-450.12 parts of aluminum powder.
The above-mentioned reaction temperature is maintained for some time (2 hours) and then the reduction product - the dianethrone derivative of the starting material - is isolated from the reaction liquid in the usual way.
In this example, the aluminum powder can be replaced by the corresponding amount of another metal, such as copper or. Iron, to be replaced.
