Process for the production of iron objects valued against corrosion. Iron pipes, fittings and other objects are strongly attacked over time by contact with water, especially if the same contains carbonic acid, sodium chloride, magnesium chloride or the like. It is possible to prevent such corrosion phenomena by making the iron objects with a certain silicon content. In this case, however, the iron becomes brittle, difficult to work with and has some properties that exclude the same for general consumption in practice.
The purpose of the present invention is to combine the advantages of the corrosion-resistant ferrosilicon material with those of iron pipes etc. of conventional design and iron quality.
The method for producing iron objects protected against corrosion is characterized in that a protective layer made of ferro-silicon alloy is produced on the surface of iron objects. The protective layer made of ferro-silicon on the inner and / or outer surface resists perfectly any corrosion, while the inner core of the iron material retains its original properties.
The invention can be carried out in various ways.
If an iron pipe is to be given a ferro-silicon protective layer inside, it can be heated to around 950 degrees and in this state mixed with silicon chloride vapors (SiC14), possibly with silicon chloroform (Si HCh), which passes through the pipe will be treated.
To accelerate the formation of a protective layer of ferro-silicon, the inside of the pipe can expediently be closed against the outside air, in which case the evaporated silicon chloride creates an overpressure through which the silicon chloride vapors diffuse more easily into the iron and onto the inside surface of the pipes Generate ferro-silicon protective layer quickly.
It is also possible to insert the iron pipes, which are closed at both ends, into hermetically sealed muffles, in which, when heated, an overpressure of silicon chloride vapors is created, the latter diffusing from here against the inside of the pipes and forming the outer protective layer .
Another method is to get the iron pipes. and fittings etc. covered with metallic silicon powder or ferro-silicon powder inside and / or outside, or embedded in them and kept on red heat for some time. A possible oxidation of the silicon can here with appropriate by reducing substances such. B. hydrogen, can be prevented.
As a variant of this embodiment, it is also possible to coat the inner and / or outer surface of the iron pipes etc. with a paste containing silicon or ferro-silicon and then the pipe etc. in a neutral or. glowing reducing atmosphere.
It is also possible to see the inner and / or outer surface of the inner and / or outer surface with the coating of a paste of metallic silicon or ferro-silicon on iron pipes etc. and then to apply colloidal silica mixed with metal salts to this paste, so that Such a treated pipe receives a strongly connecting coating in the glowing heat of silicic acid and ferro-silicon mixed with metal salts and thus remains protected against corrosion even if the melted protective layer of silicic acid mixed with metal salts is damaged by any cause should.
A particularly advantageous embodiment of the method consists in irradiating the iron pipes etc. inside and / or outside, by means of blower devices, with metallic silicon powder or ferro-silicon powder, so that the silicon penetrates the iron skin and is already finely distributed mechanical mixing with the iron causes such a treated pipe, after it has been provided with a coating of colloidal silica mixed with metal salts,
During the annealing process, any influence of an oxidizing effect that adversely affects the ferro-silicon alloy is deprived of and is provided with perfect corrosion protection in every respect.
