Electron tube with glow cathode. In recent times, tubes have become known in which the transition from the straight, steep part of the working characteristic to the horizontal part takes place very slowly. These tubes are particularly suitable as high-frequency amplifier tubes in arrangements in which the degree of amplification is to be changed by changing the grid prestress.
As a result of the slow transition between the steep, straight-line part of the characteristic in the horizontal part, it is possible to work at points of very different steepness and very different amplification capacities of the tube, without the occurrence of strong distortions due to excessive curvature of the characteristic. In the previously known arrangements, such tube characteristics were achieved by application of a grid electrode with the distance between the neighboring grid struts changing along the thread. According to the invention, a tube arrangement with a simple construction is achieved in that the cathode is symmetrical to the anode, but the grid is asymmetrical to the cathode and anode in a plane perpendicular to the cathode.
In this way, the grid electrode can be designed in the same way in its longitudinal direction, so that tubes with different saturation currents and correspondingly different internal resistances can be produced by suitable selection and expansion of the electrodes in the longitudinal direction.
Figures 1-4 show possible forms of an electrode arrangement according to the invention in a cross section of the tube perpendicular to the electrodes. The penetration of the anode through the grid is not uniform in the plane of the section, but different depending on the azimuth. By superimposing part characteristics of different inclinations, as shown in FIG. 5, a tube is obtained in this way whose overall characteristic as the sum of the partial characteristics does not meet the EI law, but increases considerably less.
As already noted, the discharge conditions are the same in the longitudinal axis, so that the tube arrangement described has cylindrical symmetry properties.
In Fig. 1 the cross-section through an amplifier tube is shown, in which the cathode .g 'and anode A are arranged coaxially to one another. The anode consists of a circular cylinder. The control grid G is arranged eccentrically in the form of a broken-through body of elliptical cross-section.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 2, the control grid G is also arranged coaxially with the cathode and anode, but the spacing of the grid meshes is selected to be narrower on one side than on the other side of the grid.
Analogous discharge systems are shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, in which, instead of a circular cylinder anode, cylinder anodes of elliptical cross-section and cathodes with several filaments are used.
There are also embodiments with several grids, at least one of which is asymmetrical to the cathode and anode, possible. For example, in the case of a screen grid tube, the screen grid can have the above asymmetry.
