'1'rockentromniel on rotogravure printing machines with auxiliary drive motor for slow gear. In rotogravure printing machines with a drying drum arranged behind each printing unit, drawing in a new paper web caused considerable difficulties due to the hot surfaces of the drying drum. In order to eliminate this, suction openings are provided on the drum circumference according to the invention for holding the paper web during drawing, which are connected to a suction pump driven by the auxiliary drive motor.
It is known per se to equip cylinders and guide rollers in printing machines with suction nozzles, which have the task of securely holding the paper web to the extent of the cylinder or the like. However, attaching such suction nozzles to the drying drum of a rotogravure printing machine and coupling the associated suction pump with the auxiliary drive motor used for the slow speed of the machine offers the advantage over the known that the drawing in of the paper web is made much easier because it is now not it is necessary to press the paper web onto the hot drum circumference with your hands.
This makes the operation of the rotogravure printing machine much easier and shortens the time lost if the paper web breaks.
In the drawing, a drying drum according to the invention is illustrated in Fig. 1 in cross section and in Fig. 2 in longitudinal section, for example.
On the circumference of the drying drum a heated by electrical resistance or in some other way, suction openings b are provided, which are connected by lines c, d to the hollow axis e to which the auxiliary drive motor f driven suction pump g is closed directly or indirectly.
When the paper web is drawn in, the end of the paper web is held by the suction force of the pump g on the drum circumference, so that it is guided around it by rotating the drying drum a. It is therefore no longer necessary to touch the hot surfaces of the drying drum a with your hands when pulling in a new paper web.
