Elektrische Sicherung.
Electrical fuse. The invention relates to an electrical fuse in which the usual fusible element is replaced by a mercury column enclosed by a tubular body made of insulating material, the interruption of which occurs when the electrical current is too high, for example by evaporation, with part of the mercury is expelled from the tube.
The invention now consists in providing a displacement body through which the mercury can be pushed back into the bore of the tubular body.
The subject of the invention is shown in the drawing in various execution forms, for example, and it show the Fig. 1 to 6 six different Ausfüh ments each in a longitudinal section, and Fig. 7 is a section along the line AA of FIG. 1. The corresponding Parts of the exemplary embodiments shown are provided with the same reference symbols.
The Si fuse shown in Figs. 1 and 7 has an insulating tube 1, for example made of glass or ceramic material, which is embedded in a metal sleeve 2 with its lower end. The latter has a small space 3 which contains mercury and is in communication with the bore 4 of the tube 1. This tube is also filled with mercury in the company. As FIG. 1 shows, it is somewhat widened at each end, while its central part is of uniform cross-section.
At the upper end of the tube 1 there is a second metallic sleeve 5 into which the tube is embedded in an airtight manner. The sleeve has a bore 6 of a larger diameter than the bore of the tube, but which is conaxial to this and forms an expansion space for receiving the expanding mercury in the boh tion of the tube. To prevent the displaced mercury from flowing back due to its gravity, the lower end of the sleeve 5 is designed as an upwardly conical surface 7, the outlet opening 8 extending from the bore of the tube through the tip of this cone.
Plugs 9 or contact bolts or the like are fastened laterally in the sleeves 2 and 5 and are used for connection and protection to the external electrical circuit. In order to return the displaced mercury from the expansion space 6 to the bore 4, a manually operated punch 10 is provided in this space. This -has a matching conical recess 11 on the conical bottom of the room, so that when the punch is pushed all the way in, the mercury is forced ge to return to the tube.
If the: punch 10 does not fill the space 6 with the greatest accuracy, then a certain amount of mercury will penetrate between the piston and the chamber wall. For this reason there is an annular recess 12 in the chamber wall slightly above the outlet opening 8 of the cone 7. This recess is covered by the latter when the piston moves downwards; it acts as a mercury catcher. The mercury returns from her to the expansion chamber on the first upward movement of the stamp.
The stamp 10 may consist of a suitable metal or a non-metallic substance, for example Bakelite, and has an extension 13 which penetrates through an opening in the removable cover 14 of the insulating body 15.
The content of the expansion space 6 and the stroke of the plunger 10, as well as the cross-sectional area of the mercury catcher 12 must be calculated with regard to the current to be broken.
For stronger currents, the upper part of the bore of the expansion space 6 is beveled at 16, in order to intercept mercury reaching the punch and return it to the lower part of the chamber when the piston is raised. Between the beveled upper surface 16 and the lower surface of the removable closure cover 14 there is a space 17 which forms an extension of the expansion space 6 and into which a sleeve 18 fastened in the cover 14 projects. This sleeve is arranged to deflect the mercury which has exceeded the sloping surface 16 of the space 6 and to return it to the latter.
When currents of high voltage are passing through the fuse, a magnetic blower field can be used to extinguish an arc after breaking the mercury column. As can be seen from FIG. 7, the housing 15 made of cast compound is provided with radial ribs 19 and a handle 20.
The bore 4 of the tube 1 and the space 3 in the lower sleeve 2 can be filled with mercury by bringing the sufficient amount of it into the space 6 of the upper sleeve 5 under the punch 10, and by alternately pulling it up and pressing it down, .Let all the air in these rooms escape.
The filling can be carried out in such a way that the space 6 is connected to a two-way valve which connects the chamber to an air pump in one position and to a mercury container in the other position. After the air has been pumped out of the interior of the see by the pump, the two-way valve is set so that the mercury flows into the emptied space and fills it.
The fuse ready for use contains mercury in space 3, in the Boh tion 4 and in channel 8 to the tip of the cone 7. A small residue remains in the annular groove to ensure that the spaces mentioned are always completely filled when the piston 10 is depressed.
The mode of operation of the fuse is as follows: If the mercury column overheats due to the electric current, the mercury is forced to flow through the channel 8 into the expansion space 6. The plunger is pushed upwards and also releases the ring-shaped mercury catcher 1? free. The power connection between the bolts or plugs is therefore interrupted. If you want to close the circuit again. so you only need to press the punch 10 downwards.
As a result, the mercury is pushed back from the expansion space 6 in the Boh tion 4 of the tube and the mercury column is restored.
It goes without saying that the metal parts in contact with the mercury are made of a non-amalgamating metal or an alloy, for example duralumin.
The in Fig. Fuse Un shown in FIG. 2 differs from the one shown in FIG. 1 only in that the tube 1 is shorter and has a uniform bore, and that the lower sleeve 2 carries a metal ring 2a at its upper end. This has a downward projection 2b, the bore 2e of which is in communication with the bore 4 of the tube. The other parts corresponding to FIG. 1 are drawn accordingly.
The way it works: this fuse is almost the same as that shown in Fig. I, except that there is a little air above the mercury in the sleeve 2 in the case of this, namely around the approach 2b. This protrudes into the mercury and creates good contact. After the mercury column has been interrupted, the lower part of the column is pressed down a little because of the compressibility of the air. and when the pressure is released, the compressed air pushes the lower part of the column into the bore 4 up, which accelerates the current interruption.
In the Fit'-. 3 and 4 iSicherungen are shown in which the stamp is arranged to the side of the corresponding expansion space.
The fuse according to FIG. 3 has a lower sleeve 2, a tube 1 and an upper sleeve 5 of which only the upper sleeve 5 differs from FIGS. 1 and 2 in that its upper end 5a is closed and the cone 7 is formed with the central opening 8 as a single part. In this version, the mercury expelled into the upper space 6 closes through a laterally downwardly sloping channel 21 which is in communication with a space 22 in which the latter a piston 28 made of insulating material is located. The channel 21 opens into an annular groove 21a arranged in the wall of the chamber 6 around the lower end of the cone 7.
The adjoining space 22 is formed in the insulating material 15 by using a suitable core when casting around the inserted parts and is connected at its lower end to the bore 25 of a casing 26 through a tapered channel 24. This is screwed into the lower sleeve 2 so that the bore 25 is connected to the mercury chamber 3 of the sleeve 2 in Ver.
A matching with the shape of the through channel 24 and tapered extension 27 at the lower end of the Stem pels 23 adapts to the channel 24 completely when the punch 23 is pushed all the way inward ge. In this position, the annular groove 28 of the punch is located at the outlet opening of the channel 21 coming from the space 6.
Here, too, the upper end of the piston space 22 is closed airtight by a cover 14. The piston rod 13 passes through it and a mercury-holding sleeve 1.8 is attached in it. The upper part of the space 22 is chamfered towards the outside at 22a. In operation, the piston 2.3 is completely pressed down and the bore 4 of the tube 1 is completely filled with mercury. If an interruption of the mercury column has occurred, the upper part of the mercury is pressed out of the bore 4 through the opening 8 into the space 6. From here the mercury flows through the channel 21 into the groove 28 of the piston.
At the same time, the lower part of the column is pressed down and lifts the piston 23 in space 22.
If the circuit is to be closed again, and the piston is not raised enough to allow the mercury to flow back from the groove 28 into the space 22, the piston is raised a little more. The piston is then pushed downward to force the mercury back from space 22 through channels 24, 25 and space 3 into bore 4 of the tube.
Fig. 4 shows a fuse suitable for high currents --dar, in which the upper and lower sleeves 2 respectively. 5 and the tube 1 with the Bohi ung 4 in wesent union as shown with reference to Fig. 3 shows and described are arranged.
In this embodiment, the conical outlet opening of the tube is replaced by an annular part 7a, which has a central, somewhat narrowed passage 8a. This establishes the connection between the relatively wide bore 4 of the tube 1 and the expansion space 6. Furthermore, the lateral discharge channel from this space is designed as a tube 29 made of insulating material and opens into the adjacent space 22, just above the upper parts of the piston 23 when it is in its fully depressed position.
The upper end of the space 22 is chamfered to the outside at 22a and closed by a cover 14 which carries the deflection sleeve 18 and also has an opening for the passage of the rod 13 of the piston 23 has. The lower end of the Rau mes 22 is provided with an upwardly conical base 30, at the tip of which opens a narrow channel 31, which is located in the insulating body 15, and at its lower end with a narrow channel standing at right angles to it. 32 is connected.
The latter is located partly in the body 15 and partly in the wall of the sleeve 2, in the space 3 of which the channel opens. As with the piston 10 described in Fig. 1, the lower end of the Kol ben 23 is made entirely of insulating material and stepped conically at 33 to fit over the surface 30 of the space 22.
The mode of operation of the version just described is understandable without further description.
The fuse in FIG. 5 is similar to that in FIG. The difference is that the piston is attached to a flexible diaphragm 34 be.
Another modification that follows from the previous one is the omission of the cylindrical expansion space 6 of FIG. 1 and its replacement by an expansion space 6a, the base area of which is formed by a key-shaped metallic diaphragm 35. This has a ko cally designed approach 36 and is attached to the upper sleeve 5 by the threaded lower end of the approach.
An axial opening 37 located in the extension 36 extends as a continuous channel 37a into the sleeve 5 up to the upper part of the bore 4 in the tube 1.
The flexible membrane 34 is pressed in upwards in its center and forms a conical depression 38 that fits over the shoulder 36; It is also attached to a push button 39 made of insulating material. This goes through an opening in the cover 14, which is screwed into the insulating body 15 to hold the membrane in place.
The mercury displaced from the bore 4 of the tube 1 during the interruption is driven through the channel 37a, 37 into the expansion space 6a, where it collects around the extension 36.
To close the circuit again, the push button 39 is depressed, where the mercury accumulated in space 6a pushes back through the channels 37, 37a into the drilling 4 of the tube 1. Fig. 6 shows yet another imple mentation form which is equivalent to the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, but differs from this in the shape of the piston used.
The rod 13 of the piston is attached in an upper shoulder 40 of a hollow, spherical rubber body 41 here. The latter has a piston-forming un tern approach 42 and is provided with a recess 11 that fits over the cone 7 of the sleeve 5. The piston 42 and the spherical body 41 fit tightly against the walls of the expansion space 6. At the connection of the extension or the piston 42 with the body 41, an annular mercury trap 43 is formed. When this safety device comes into operation, the mercury expelled from the bore 4 of the tube 1 pushes the piston upwards and collects around the cone 7.
After the piston to close the circuit is depressed by means of the rod 13, the spherical body is somewhat flattened so that its outer wall is in close contact with the wall of the space 6 and the mercury is prevented from escaping upwards. The collected around the cone 7 mercury is in the Boh tion 4 of the tube 1 and the power connection between the sleeves 2 and 5 respectively. the fastened in them plugs 9 closed again.
It should also be noted that in all of the embodiments described, the reference is made as tight as possible so that no mercury loss whatsoever can occur.
