Protective arrangement for generators driven by counter-rotating turbines, in particular by Ljungström turbines. Generators that are connected in parallel on both sides, that is, on the drive side and on the power output side, must always be in the same operating state. Otherwise there will be a transfer of energy from one generator to the other. By using a suitable differential circuit, the compensation that occurs between the two machines in the event of an unequal operating condition can be grasped.
If both machines are in full operation, the occurrence of a compensating current indicates that a fault has occurred in one machine. Through the direct current from one can so using relays, which respond to the difference in current between correspondingly the same phases of the generators, a shutdown device of the whole unit and BEZW. or cause signaling.
A special type of such generators are the Ljungström generators, which are connected in parallel on both sides, but in which the parallel connection on the drive side is designed in such a way that the machines are not rigidly coupled to one another, so that they are not inevitably be kept in synchronism by the drive machine.
Especially when starting, compensation currents occur between the two generators, which are caused by the fact that the machines do not start completely synchronously, but only from a certain level of their speed to bring themselves into synchronization through the synchronizing force of their armature currents and fields hold. The consequence of this peculiarity is that precautions must be taken to prevent the differential protection from responding during the start-up time of the machines.
For this purpose, it has been proposed to switch off the differential relays and, for example, only make them operational again at the same time through an auxiliary contact on the circuit breaker, which connects the unit to the mains.
According to the invention, a different approach is taken in order to rule out the incorrect response of the protective arrangement during the starting time. For this purpose, a wattmetric monitoring relay is seen, the sensitivity of which is dependent on a common operating variable of the generators of the unit that does not yet occur in full strength during the start-up time of the unit.
In .den accompanying Figs. 1 and 2 are exemplary embodiments of the. Invention erläu tert. With A and B the two generators driven by Gregenrun turbines and connected in parallel, for example the generators of a Ljungström unit, are designated. The terminals of the machines .f1. and B are connected by lines 1 and 2 with each other, from which the common line 3 goes off, through which the machines work on the line network. In line 3 there is a circuit breaker 4 which can be opened by a trip coil 5 in the event of a fault.
In the star point side of the windings of the generators A and B , each phase is equipped with a current transformer. The circuit of these current transformers is only designed for the current transformer pair 6 and 7. The current transformers 6 and 7 are connected to one another by the lines 8 and 9. In the line. 8 is the primary winding of an intermediate transformer 10, from the center of which a line 11 extends.
The line 11 is connected to one terminal of a current transformer 12, which is in the corresponding phase of the bus 3. The other end of the secondary winding of the current transformer 12 is connected to the line 9 via a line 13. At the terminals of the current converter 12, a differential relay 14 is closed. This differential relay is part of a differential protection through which the generator current in the common line 3 is compared with the sum of the generator currents in the two correspondingly identical phase windings of the generators A and B becomes.
In the course of the line 11, the current coil of a wattmetric differential relay 15 is located. The second coil of the differential relay 15 is connected to the secondary winding of the intermediate converter 10. If as a result of a fault in one of the two generators A and B respectively. In the supply lines 1 and 2, the powers of the generators are unequal, the secondary winding of the intermediate converter 10 is excited. A current proportional to the total current of the aggregate flows through the conductor 11, and as a result both windings of the wattmetric relay 15 are excited.
This brings the contact 16: this relay to deflection, the deflection direction depending on which machine is delivering the greater power. Contact 16 works together with two pairs of contacts, on the one hand causing the disconnection of the generator from the mains and on the other hand activating a signaling device, for example drop flaps, so that it is immediately recognizable which generator has the greater power.
In FIG. 2, essentially the same arrangement of the generators A, B is shown as in FIG. 1. An intermediate converter 17 is excited by the difference in the currents in the generators A and B. One coil of the wattmetric relay 15 is connected to its secondary winding. The second coil of the wattmetric relay 15 is not excited by the current, but by the voltage of the generators A and B .
In this way it can be achieved that when the generators are started, the equalizing currents flowing back and forth: alternately trigger oppositely directed torques in the relay 15, so that this does not cause a deflection and actuation of the contacts when the damping is sufficient.
If a Ferraris-R @ elais is used as a wattmetric relay, one gains the advantage that the differential protection is particularly insensitive during the start-up time because the torque of a Ferrari system is also small at low frequency. It is possible to choose the arrangement in such a way that a significant torque in the Ferraris relay is only achieved when the frequency of the currents almost reaches the operating frequency, that is, when equal currents arise that are not welding - Exercise frequency but operating frequency.
In the same way, the intermediate converter 10 acts respectively. 17, whose transmission ratio is also frequency dependent.
The circuit according to FIG. 1 has the particular advantage that the sensitivity of the differential relay 15 increases with the load on the machine. This is beneficial insofar as when the unit is lightly loaded, a certain additional load on one machine compared to the other does not mean any danger for the more heavily loaded machine. If the unit is heavily loaded, on the other hand, great importance must be attached to the even distribution of the total load.
The arrangement according to FIG. 2 has the property that it is insensitive during the starting time. This is because the torque in the watt metric relay 15 can only emerge as the voltage increases. What they have in common is arrangements that no switchover is required in order to set the sensitivity of the protection low during the starting time and significantly higher during the operating time. Instead of arranging a particularly wattmetric relay for each phase, a common relay can also be provided for all phases.
Instead of forming the electrical difference, for example by means of an intermediate converter, a mechanical difference can also be used, in that several measuring devices are mechanically coupled to one another. The stopping and de-excitation of the generators e L 'is expediently not triggered directly by the differential relays, but rather by timing relays which are brought down by the differential relays.
As explained before, it is very beneficial to energize one coil of the wattmetric differential relay proportionally to the total load current, and this means that the sensitivity of the protection increases with the load. This arrangement has the disadvantage that the protective relay cannot work when idling. Therefore, a relay arrangement has already been described as a further embodiment, in which the excitation of a wattmeter coil of the differential relay. assumes voltage in the machine.
This arrangement makes .the protection work even when the unit is completely idle, but is inferior to the previously mentioned embodiment, in which the one wattmeter coil is excited by the load current, because its sensitivity is completely independent of the load. By combining the two principles, a relay is obtained, which on the one hand is already operational when idling and on the other hand has a sensitivity that increases with the load current.
In such a relay, for example, one field of the wattmetric device of total current and voltage is built up together, for example by phase currents and phase voltage, while the moving system is excited by the equalizing current.
