Description
Sehwefelhaltige Eisen- und Stahllegierung. Bekanntlich zeichnen sich hochschwefel haltige Eisen- und Stahllegierungen, wie bei spielsweise die Automatenstähle, zwar durch eine gute Bearbeitbarkeit mittelst spanabhe bender Werkzeuge aus - es lassen sich an ihnen ohne besondere Vorkehrungen glatte und saubere Oberflächen darstellen - sie sind aber nur schwierig walz- und schmied bar. Man hat diesen Übelstand schon dadurch zn beseitigen versucht, dass man den Legie rungen Mangan zulegierte. Durch diese Mass nahme lässt sich allerdings die Warmformge- bungsfähigkeit wesentlich verbessern;

Sulphurous iron and steel alloy. It is well known that high-sulfur iron and steel alloys, such as free-cutting steels, are characterized by good machinability using cutting tools - they can be smooth and clean surfaces without special precautions - but they are difficult to roll and forge bar. Attempts have already been made to remedy this disadvantage by adding manganese to the alloys. This measure, however, can significantly improve the hot forming ability;
this measure, however, has the disadvantage that the material loses its machinability by means of cutting tools.
Tests have now shown that high-sulfur iron and steel alloys contain up to 1% carbon; 0.1 to 0.5% sulfur and up to 1% manganese can be easily machined using cutting tools and at the same time can be easily rolled and forged if they contain the elements chromium, aluminum, titanium, vanadium and copper individually or mixed in a proportion of 0.1 to 25 , / o added as an alloy.
Good results have been achieved, for example, with the following alloys
