Smoke to filter for smokers' articles. The present invention relates to a to smoke filter for smokers' articles, for example pipes, cigar holders, cigarette holders.
Numerous smoke filters are already known to. comprising a device intended to, retain the solid and liquid constituents of the smoke before this last reaches the smoker's mouth. In these filters, the products retained (carbonaceous particles, condensation water, nicotine, tar, or even saliva) by said device, are found in direct contact with the part of the article in which the device is mounted.
As this part is generally made of a material (wood, earth, foam, ivory, etc.) capable of retaining these products, this material becomes impregnated with the said products after a certain time of drying. usage, or at least these form a deposit on it that is difficult to remove. The products which remain so in the article give off a bad odor, especially when heated (which is the case in a pipe) and, therefore, make the article unpleasant to use.
The object of the present invention is to obviate to, this drawback. The filter it has for object is of the type comprising a device placed on at least part of the course of the smoke and intended to retain the solid and liquid constituents of the smoke.
It is however characterized in that the said device is enclosed in a sheath of the ends to, isolate it from the part of the article in which it is mounted, in order to prevent the retained products in this device, to come into contact with said part.
The appended drawing represents, to by way of example, two embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a section through through a pipe, showing a first form of the filter, in place in that pipe; Figs. 2 and 3 are larger scale cross-sections made respectively along lines II-II and III-III of FIG. 1, and ZD Fig. 4 is a partial section through a cigarette holder, showing a second form of the filter.
The same reference figures indicate in all these figures similar or analogous organs.
Referring firstly to FIGS. 1 to 3, the filter shown comprises a device 10 with baffles, fixed by friction to. the em He mouth of the pipe. This device is constituted by a rod 12 perforated at 13 and carrying the baffles 14. The latter are discs which can be manufactured with the rod 12 and which have notches 15 arranged so that the smoke is forced to follow a winding path in the upper part of the device 10. The sizes there are therefore spared, preferably , to the top of the disks.
The rod 12 is integral, â one of its ends, with a sleeve 16 fixed in a corresponding bore of the mouth 11 and, at its other end, a plug 17 pierced with at least one hole 18 and having notches 19 . The hole 18 communicates with a channel 20 formed inside a part of the rod 12 and de- blocking between the cap 17 and the chicane ad jacente. A passage 21 connects the interior of the sleeve 16 with the space between the latter and the adjacent baffle.
A generally cylindrical metal sheath 22 surrounds the device and fits hermetically to one of its ends on the sleeve 16. This sheath comes in close contact with the periphery of the baffles and the 17 plug and is held to the device by greasy friction. It presents to its free end holes 23.
When using the pipe shown, the smoke produced in the furnace 24 and carrying solid and condensable constituents, enters through the holes 9-3 in the sheath 22. This smoke passes then partly through hole 18 and channel 20 and partly through notches 19 to arrive in the space between the plug 17 </ B > -and the chicane adja cente--, from there., it follows a winding path passing through the notches 15 of each chi- cane to arrive in space entm la, socket 16 and the adjacent baffle.
During this course, the general direction of which is sensibly perpendicular to the baffles, the smoke cools - and gets rid of its solid and liquid constituents, which remain held in the duct 22 , especially in the lower part of it. The purified smoke passes through through passage 21 to be subsequently taken by the smoker. Saliva which may flow into the mouth canal 11, enters the socket 16 and there can eventually enter the sheath 22, and mix with the selected products.
In any case, neither. these products, nor the saliva will come into direct contact with the part of the pipe and the bowl of the pipe surrounding the device. By removing the mouthpiece 11, the device 10 and the sheath 22 are removed with it, then by separating these parts, it is possible to proceed to. </ B> complete, easy and quick cleaning of the filter. All the products retained by the latter can thus be removed and the material of the pipe itself will never be impregnated or covered. Only the furnace of the pipe will be lined with the usual charcoal layer inside.
In the embodiment shown to in fig. 4, the device 10 is screwed to the mouth Il of the cirarette holder. The latter is in two parts, to namely: the mouthpiece Il and a socket 25 screwed one to </ B > the other. The positive 10 is only partially shown, the sheath 22, hiding the baffles, the rod and the plug.
This device can be similar to that of the first embodiment, however, instead of. sleeve 16, it has a projection 26 ending in a thread 9-7 and perforated axially, so to. </ B> connect the mouth channel with the space between part 26 and the chicane, ad jacente.
To allow the screwing or unscrewing of the 2: 7 thread in the mouth, the sheath 22 has at least one 2: 8 lug which fits hermetically in a corresponding housing 29 provided in the device 10. By removing the sleeve 25, the perforated end of the sheath 22 can be grasped and thus rotate the latter. The rotation of the sheath is communicated to the device 10, by the lug 28 resting in its housing, thus causing the screwing or unscrewing of the thread 2; 7 in the mouth.
Once the filter has been removed from the cigarette holder, the sheath 22 of the device 10 can be separated, these members only holding together by friction, and the filter can be cleaned.
The path followed by the smoke, as well as the action of the filter on it, can be easily understood by comparing this form of execution of the filter with that of FIGS. 1 to 3.
It will be noted that in the two embodiments described, the smoke is obliged to pass through the duct to reach the mouth channel and cannot follow one another. It follows that all the products deposited by the smoke from the moment when it has left the tobacco until the moment when it has dyed said channel, are in the sheath 2,2 or in the device 10.
Changes can be made to the latter. It could, for example, consist of a corrugated tongue, fixed to, the mouthpiece and surrounded by the sheath, the latter fitting tightly to the mouthpiece.
