Aux dessins annexés, donnés uniquement à titre d'exemple: La fig. 1 est une coupe verticale diamé trale suivant la ligne 1-1 de la fig. 2 d'une culasse et de la partie supérieure d'un cylin dre de moteur Diesel, perfectionné suivant l'invention; La fig. 2 est une coupe horizontale sui vant la ligne 2-2 de la fig. 1; La fig. 3 est une coupe verticale suivant la ligne 3r-3 delà fig. 1;
Les fig. 4 à. 6 sont des coupes, analogues respectivement aux coupes des fig. 1 à 3, montrant une autre forme de réalisation du dispositif pour amorcer l'allumage; La fig. 7 est la coupe verticale diamétrale suivant la ligne 7-7 de la fig. 8 d'un autre type de culasse pour moteur Diesel, perfec tionné suivant l'invention; La fig. .8 est une coupe verticale- suivant la ligne 8-.8 de la fig. 7;
Further training in diesel engines and the like. It is known, in diesel engines, to organize a rotary mixing of the air. This stirring has the effect of diffusing the liquid particles injected into the combustion air and thus effecting the formation of the mixture before ignition. This then takes place automatically throughout the mass, the air being compressed to a temperature above the spontaneous ignition temperature of the mixture. The improved engines are still relatively heavy and cannot reach the high speeds that carburetor engines allow.
The present invention relates to an improvement to diesel engines and if milaires provided with means for performing the rotary stirring of the air; this improvement makes it possible to obtain very light engines capable of running very quickly with silent operation.
This improvement is distinguished in. that the engine comprises a device intended to initiate the ignition of the mixture of liquid fuel and combustion air, this device being located in such a way that it cannot be touched by any portion of the mixture before formation full of the latter.
According to a preferred embodiment, the device intended to initiate the ignition is placed next to the fuel injector a little behind the latter relative to the direction in which the air-fuel vortex moves. mixed.
On the other hand, this device is preferably isolated from the other walls and is made of a material such that it acts as a catalytic or electrochemical thermochemical initiator of combustion at a lower temperature in the combustion chamber. combustion.
In the accompanying drawings, given only by way of example: FIG. 1 is a vertical diametral section taken along line 1-1 of FIG. 2 of a cylinder head and of the upper part of a diesel engine cylinder, improved according to the invention; Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1; Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken along line 3r-3 of there fig. 1;
Figs. 4 to. 6 are sections, respectively analogous to the sections of FIGS. 1 to 3, showing another embodiment of the device for initiating ignition; Fig. 7 is the diametrical vertical section taken along line 7-7 of FIG. 8 of another type of cylinder head for a diesel engine, improved according to the invention; Fig. .8 is a vertical section taken along line 8-.8 of FIG. 7;
Fig. 9 is a vertical section, diametral along line 9-9 of FIG. 10, of the upper part of an improved diesel engine cylinder according to the invention, said cylinder comprising internally a gasket; Fig. 10 is a horizontal section taken along line 10-10 of FIG. 9.
The engine partially shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 is made up, in the usual way, of one or more cylinders 1 in each of which a piston 2 moves. On these cylinders is arranged a cylinder head 3 in which are provided pipes 4 and 5 of admission air and exhaust of burnt gases. These pipes communicate with the interior of the cylinder 1 via the inlet valve 6 and the exhaust valve 7. The fuel injector is arranged at 8 at any point on the wall of the cylinder. Jet 9 of liquid fuel is launched into the intake air.
A rotating billon lathe intended for. intimately mixing the liquid fuel and air is achieved by any conventional method, for example, in the case of a four-stroke engine, by means of an oriented flap 10 placed on the intake valve of 'air, 6. The direction of the log turn is, for example, that indicated by the arrow f (fig. 2).
This engine comprises any device intended to start the ignition which is placed at a point such that it cannot be touched by any portion of the mixture before the complete formation of the latter, preferably in: 11 in the axis ox immediately behind the injector 8 in relation to the direction of the vortex (fig. 2).
Thanks to. This arrangement, during the duration of the injection, all the combustion air passes in front of the mouth of the injector. The ignition is not started until 11, after the complete formation of the mixture.
We will understand the importance of this arrangement, considering that a device for initiating ignition placed, for example, along the oy axis, would cause the ignition of the first particles injected, that is to say at a when the total pre-mix is not yet formed. This would result in faulty combustion (long fire), the inability to run fast and poor performance.
The device intended .to. initiating ignition is preferably made of metals which are good heat conductors and is preferably thermally insulated from the wall which carries it. Thus, within the enclosure of the combustion chamber, and to. the most favorable place, a hotter zone to determine the initial ignition. Initially, the engine being cold, the device quickly takes a higher temperature than the combustion chamber, and starting is facilitated.
Finally, the device can be made of special materials. We know, in fact, that it is possible, under certain conditions, to lower the temperatures of chemical reactions, while accelerating their speed. The positive can therefore be constituted by oxidation rates such as copper, nickel, chromium, etc., by suitable alloys or other materials capable of playing the same role.
In this case, the operation is as follows: During suction and compression, the surface of the device 11 oxidizes on contact with air. With the total mixing being carried out, a first fraction of this mixture touches the device 11 which releases the oxygen from its surface and thus causes rapid and intensive ignition. These oxidation reactions take place at a cooler temperature than under ordinary conditions and allow the use of lower compressions in the engine.
The lowering of the cycle pressures and the increasing of the combustion rate are thus again combined to meet the conditions of lightness and speed. The formation of the preliminary mixture also leads to a higher specific power by reducing the excess air required for combustion.
No assumption was made above on the nature of the fuel injection equipment. The invention applies just as well to engines in which the fuel is injected directly into the 3rd combustion chamber as it does to antechamber engines without which the fuel is injected beforehand into an auxiliary capacity in order to determine a pre-explosion there. ; intended to drive the main mass of the fuel into the combustion chamber proper.
In the latter case, the device for starting the ignition is placed in the anti-chamber, relative to the injection device, in the same respective position as when these two devices are provided in the cylinder itself of an engine. without anti chamber.
Of course, the invention can be carried out in various ways. It can be based on existing types of diesel or similar vortex engines as it can lead to special embodiments of these engines.
In the example of execution of FIGS. 1 to 3, the device 11 is shown schematically as a hollow body with insulation 12 'and seal 13. It may or may not be provided with a cover 14. It may be lined internally with a heat insulator. It may or may not emerge in the cylinder head, its shape may be any conch, turns of metal wires, for example. This device can be heated electrically or in any other way for cold start.
It may have the shape indicated at 11a in FIG. 5 and be mounted in the cylinder head (fig. 6). It can also be attached to the bottom of the piston, as indicated in phantom lines, at 11b (fig. 4).
The application to the opposed piston engines is done without any difficulty.
In fig. 7 and 8, another embodiment has been shown which is applicable to two-stroke engines as well as to four-stroke valves without valve. According to this exemplary execution, the actual combustion chamber 112 has the general shape of a cylinder with a horizontal z-z axis. This chamber 112 comunique with the engine cylinder by a tangential channel 11.8, so as to. create a rotating vortex in the direction of arrow f.
The injector is in 8 and the device for initiating ignition in 11c. Instead of being plunging, the device can be contiguous to the interior surface of the chamber 112 as indicated by 11d in phantom. In this arrangement, the engine piston 2 at top dead center leaves only the practically necessary play between its bottom and the cylinder head. In this way, almost all of the combustion air is forced back into the cylinder head.
This embodiment is also applicable to four-stroke valve engines. In this case, it is necessary to reject the combustion chamber as far laterally as possible in order to remain outside the bulk of the valves as it already is. known to do so.
The arrangement of fig. 7 and 8 make it possible to produce a combustion chamber with rotary cylindrical stirring without reducing the section of the suction valve by an orientation flap for the air.
In fig. 9 and 10, there is shown a cylindrical combustion chamber in which is caused, by any method, a rotary stirring according to the arrow f. The injector is in 8. The walls of the combustion chamber may favorably consist of a ring 114, the temperature of which must remain below the spontaneous ignition temperature of the mixture, while the device 11, intended to to initiate ignition, has a temperature higher than the spontaneous ignition temperature of the mixture. This can be achieved by a judicious choice of materials, cooling surfaces, thicknesses, more or less direct contact with cooled surfaces, etc.
For example, the ring 114 may be provided in a metal which is a good conductor of heat placed in direct contact with the cooled surfaces of the cylinder, the device 11 being, on the contrary, thermally insulated from the cooled walls of the cylinder, so as to conserve the heat. more possible the heat developed by combustion. This prevents any premature initiation of combustion.
