Die Eintauchtiefe T des Schaufelrades ist demnach in beiden Fällen genau dieselbe. Ist das Schiff voll belastet, so steigt der Wasserspiegel im Gefäss 16 von der Marke n zur Marke b. Der Schwimmer nimmt die ge strichelte Lage b ein. und der Querbalken 20 zunächst. die Lage b-x. Die Verschiebung des :Steuerorganes 12 nach oben hat zur Folge;
Drive device with paddle wheels for ships. In the case of wheelboats, there is the disadvantage that the efficiency of the drive wheels is significantly lower if their immersion depth differs from the normal immersion depth. This case usually occurs when the ship is empty or fully loaded. The paddle wheels only give the best efficiency when the ship has a very specific cargo. However, since compliance with this loading that is most favorable for the drive wheels is rather an exception, it follows that the wheel ships generally have to run under conditions that do not allow the most favorable efficiency of the drive device.
This drawback is remedied according to the inven tion by the fact that the Antriebsvor device is seen ver with a device for raising and lowering the axis of the paddle wheels. The axis of the paddle wheels can be adjusted depending on the draft of the ship. The device that adjusts the paddle wheels can be controlled by a float.
An example of the subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing.
Figs. 1-3 show a wheel ship at different immersion depths in a schematic representation; Fig. 4 shows a schematic representation of the device for adjusting the axis of the paddle wheels.
With reference to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 mean 1 th hull and 2 a paddle wheel of a normal wheel ship. The water level is denoted by 3, the distance from the axis of the paddle wheel to the water level with H and the immersion depth of the paddle wheel with T. There is now the relationship R between the radius R of the paddle wheel, the immersion depth T and the distance H. = H + T. According to Fig. 1, the ship is unloaded and the immersion depth T1 is consequently the smallest. According to Fig. 2, the load on the ship is normal; the immersion depth T2 results in the most favorable efficiency of the paddle wheel.
In Fig. 3 the ship is shown under the greatest load. The immersion depth T3 is the greatest here.
The immersion depths T1 and T3 result in efficiencies for the paddle wheel that are behind that of the immersion depth T2.
Corresponding to the immersion depths T1, T2, T3, the distance H assumes the values H1, H2 and H3.
According to Fig. 4, the axis of the drive wheels is now adjusted so that the distance H and thus the immersion depth T remains constant with every load on the ship.
The wheel blades can either be fixedly or rotatably attached to the paddle wheel in a known manner. In the first case, the angle of inclination of the blades with respect to the blade wheel cannot be changed. In the second case, this angle of inclination can be varied in order to increase the effectiveness of the blades and to reduce the losses during immersion and emergence.
It means 4 the axis of the paddle wheels, 5 the support bearing: the axis 4, and 6 the support rod for the support bearing 5. The support rod 6 is supported by a piston of a servo motor 8. The lines 9 and 10, which are connected to the housing 11 of a control element 12, lead to the servomotor 8. To the housing 11, the pressure line 13 and two discharge lines 14 and 15 are ruled out.
A float vessel 16 is arranged in the interior of the ship. which communicates through an opening 17 with the fairway. In the float vessel 16 there is a float 18, which is connected by a rod 19 to the crossbar 20, which in turn is through the rod 21 with the rule organ 11 and through the rod 22 with the return 23 in connection. The return 23 is pivotably mounted in the fixed point 24 and in the bearing 25 of the rod 6. The device works as follows: If the ship is normally loaded, the device is in the position shown in solid lines in Fig. 4, in which the water level is denoted by n.
If the ship is unloaded, the water level in the vessel 16 drops from mark n to mark a. The float 18 also falls and assumes the dashed line, marked with a be. As a result, the cross beam 20 initially assumes the position a-x. The control member 12 is pulled down by the rod 21 and controls the pressure oil supplied through the line 13 in a known manner through the line 9 to the upper side of the piston 7. The pressure oil displaced by the lower side of the piston 7 escapes through the Line 10 to the housing 11 and from here through the Lei device 14. In the meantime, the piston 7 and thus also the axis 4 drops until the control element 12 resumes its normal position.
This occurs when the return guide 23 has reached the position a-a, where the crossbar 20 has also reached the position a-a, whereby the crossbar 20 is shifted into the position a-a. The joint 26 is thus in the same position after the control as it was before the control. After the Steue tion, the axis 4 of the drive wheel is ge just so much lower than the float 18 swims deeper due to the sinking of the water level.
The immersion depth T of the paddle wheel is therefore exactly the same in both cases. If the ship is fully loaded, the water level in the vessel 16 rises from mark n to mark b. The swimmer takes position b. and the crossbar 20 first. the position b-x. The shift of the: control member 12 upwards has the consequence;
that the piston 7 and thus also the axis 4 is raised by the pressure oil by so much that the distance H and the immersion depth T to the most favorable values H. respectively. T2 sets, namely as soon as the axis 4 has taken the immersion depth T2 corre sponding position, the crossbar 20 is brought by the return 23 in the position b-b, whereby the control organ in turn assumes the position that it held before the control.
The float 18 can either act directly as shown in FIG. 4, or its movement can be transmitted to the crossbar 20 by means of angle levers. The movement of the swimmer 18 can be transmitted to the control element 12 in a linear manner or in a distorted manner through the interposition of suitable mechanisms. In some cases, it is advisable to connect a damping element between the float and the control element in order to keep the influence of small vibrations away from the device, for example due to waves.
The transmission of the power from the machine to the drive wheels can be done in a known manner by chain, spur or bevel gears. In the case of small machines running at high speed, the machine can also be raised and lowered together with the drive wheels. In this case, the steam supply and discharge can take place through pipes provided with stuffing boxes.
The device can be used in both conventional wheel ships and stern wheel ships.
