Process for the preparation of a new vat dye. By fusing 1.2.1'.2'-di-iiaphtaziii-8.8'-distilfosäure with an alkali hydroxide, a product is obtained which is insoluble in dilute alkali metals and therefore so far not for a dioxydinaphtazine, but for a condensation product of the same was held.
We have found that the abovementioned body changes into new compounds through treatment with alkylating agents, which, according to analysis and molecular weight determination, are dialkoxydinaphtazines.
It is to be assumed that the product of the alkali melt of 1.2.1'.2-dinaphthazine-8.8'-di "julfonic acid has the formula I of 8.8'-dioxy-1.2. <B> 1 '. </ B> 2'-dinaphtazins or the formula II belongs to an isomeric compound formed by the displacement of hydrogen atoms.
EMI0001.0026
It is therefore referred to below as 8.8'-dioxy-1.2.1'.2'-dinaplitaziii.
As is already known, mild chlorination of this product results in chlorine substitution products which do not have the character of a vat dye. They contain 3-4 atoms of chlorine.
It has now been found that a new vat dye is obtained if the <B> 8. </B> 8'-dioxy-l. 2. <B> 1 '. </B> 2'-diiiaphtazine up to the formation of products chlorinated, which dissolved in concentrated sulfuric acid, expediently with the addition of copper powder, split off hydrogen chloride even at normal temperature and these products split off hydrogen chloride withdraws.
The products obtained by the vigorous chlorination are brown, respectively. Light yellow to orange in color and, unlike the known, low-chlorinated products, dissolve easily in organic solvents such as glacial acetic acid and benzene. Pyridine or nitrobenzene. They dissolve in concentrated sulfuric acid with a brown to blue color.
The chlorination is advantageously carried out in a suitable diluent, for example in nitrobenzene, halogenated hydrocarbons or in mixtures of such solvents. The chlorinating agent itself, for example sulfuryl chloride, can also serve as a diluent at the same time. Chlorine carriers, such as iodine, can be added.
Chlorine in the form of hydrogen chloride can be split off from the chlorine derivatives of 8.8'-dioxy-1.2.1'.2'-dinaphtazine obtained in this way. This is achieved by heating the compounds mentioned for themselves or in a suitable diluent and is therefore partly done if the chlorination is carried out at higher temperatures. In general, however, when splitting off the chlorine, it is expedient to use or- respectively. and to use reducing agents.
We know, for example, concentrated sulfuric acid, inorganic or organic bases, sodium acetate, etc., as agents that split off hydrogen chloride, and metals, sulphurous acid, hydrosulphites, alcohols, phetiols, hydrazine and hydroxylamine and their derivatives, etc., as reducing substances Hydrogen chloride can also take place in two stages,
by first removing part of the chlorine as hydrogen chloride from one of the above-mentioned chlorinated products, which is brown-soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid, for example by the action of a mild reducing agent, such as sulfuric acid, and the hydrogen chloride is split off, for example in boiling aniline End leads. You can also let the chlorinating agent act on the 8.8'-dioxy-1.2.1'.2'-dinaphtazine first under milder conditions, and then, optionally without prior isolation of the resulting chlorine substitution product, chlorinate under vigorous conditions and further, as above specified, proceed.
In all) cases the end product is a red body, which is a mixture of six- and eight-fold chlorinated dioxydinaphtazine and can be vat with caustic soda and hydrosulphite already cold, but better in warmth. The new vat dye dyes the vegetable and animal fibers from the yellow vat in strong red tones of excellent fastness.
<I>Example<B>1:</B> </I> In the suspension of <B> 31 </B> parts <B> 8. </B> 8'-Dioxy-1.2.1'.2 '-dinaphtazine in <B> 900 </B> parts of nitrobenzene is introduced at <B> 1300 </B> with stirring until a yellow solution has formed. A sample of the reaction mass gives a brown solution with concentrated sulfuric acid, from which a light yellow precipitate is obtained when diluted with water.
If the solution of the sample is heated in concentrated sulfuric acid, expediently with the addition of copper powder or zinc chloride, the color turns to blue uni, and a red precipitate is obtained on dilution with water.
To obtain the vat dye, the yellow solution of the chlorination product in nitrobenzene is stirred with 80 parts of potassium acetate for a few hours, for example at water bath temperature, after which the dye is isolated in the customary manner.
<I> Example 2: </I> <B> 31 </B> parts of 8.8'-Dioxy-1.2.1'.2-dinapl) - tazin are in <B> 600 </B> parts. dissolved in boiling nitrobenzene. After cooling to <B> 80 '</B>, one part iodine is added, <B> 150 </B> parts sulfuryl chloride are slowly added while stirring and the temperature is kept between <B> 80 </B> and < B> 90 0. </B> The chlorination is completed in about an hour.
After cooling, the undissolved material is sucked off and the main amount of the reaction product is precipitated in crystalline form by diluting it with benzene and ligroin. <B> It </B> is reddish-yellow in color, dissolves blue in concentrated sulfuric acid and turns reddish yellow when diluted with water.
If the sulfuric acid solution is heated, hydrochloric acid escapes and, when diluted with <B> - </B> water, a bluish-tinged red precipitate of the vat dye described in example <B> 1 </B> is obtained. The same color is obtained from the reddish yellow product when heated with nitrobenzene and sodium acetate or when boiled with pyridine, aniline, etc. For example, 10 parts of the highly chlorinated product can be added Heat <B> 100 </B> parts of aniline to the boil.
The initially reddish-brown solution turns bluish bread and separates bluish-tinged red needles of the vat dye obtainable according to Example 1. It is suctioned off and washed with aniline. <I> Example<B>3:</B> </I> <B> 10 </B> parts <B> 8. </B> 8'-Dioxy-1 <B>. </B> 2 . <B> l '. </B> 2-dinaphtazine with <B> 300 </B> parts of sulfuryl chloride and <B> 0.3 </B> parts of iodine are about <B> 25 </B> Boiled for hours on the reflux condenser.
Minor impurities are filtered off from the yellow solution and the sulfuryl chloride is removed by distillation and treating the residue with cold water. The yellow reaction product dissolves brown in concentrated sulfuric acid.
For conversion to the dye, <B> 10 </B> parts of this product can be boiled with <B> 10 </B> parts of anhydrous sodium acetate and <B> 100 </B> parts of liquid carbolic acid, for example. The red crystals that separate out are separated off and washed with carbolic acid, <B> Al- </B> alcohol and water. <B> - </B>
