Description

Springs, in particular for mattresses and upholstered furniture. This invention relates to springs, particularly for mattresses, upholstered furniture and the like, of the type in which two-armed spring elements are connected to one another by two mutually opposite connecting members and a peripheral ring to form a lenticular structure.

In a spring of the type mentioned, it is necessary to provide means to guide the spring elements during use and to hold them in their mutual position, in order to avoid the possibility of stuffing or cushioning material getting between adjacent elements and affecting the resilient effect .

According to the invention, this is achieved in that the spring elements are held against lateral displacement on the peripheral ring. For this purpose, the spring elements are preferably mounted in cranks on the ring.

In the accompanying drawing, an embodiment of the subject invention is shown for example. Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the spring, partly in section; Figure 2 is a vertical section through the spring of Figure 1; Figures 3 and 4 are plan and sectional views of a portion of a mattress incorporating springs in accordance with the present invention.

In the illustrated embodiment of the invention, the springs 3 are formed by a number of spring elements, each of which is a pair of radially arranged. has spring arms 4 converging towards the outside and each pair of arms is provided with a turn at its outer end or convergence point. An outer, peripheral link or serrated ring 6 has a number of inwardly bent parts which penetrate the turns 5 at the point where the arms 4 come together.

Around the ends. 8 of the ring 6 to hold in place, they are overlapped. This avoids having to braid the ends of the ring together or fasten them together in some other way, as is done to this day. The spring elements are preferably arranged in pairs, the arms of which are connected to one another or form a whole. The spring elements can be attached near the axis of the spring at 9, for which purpose a toothed, star-shaped hood 10 is provided; the tips of the hood are bent inward against the spring to encircle and hold the spring elements.

In Fig. 3 and 4, 1 denotes a mattress, provided with the usually horizontally laid layers of stuffing material or felt 2, between which the springs 3, of the type as described above, are uniformly distributed in certain spaces.

The quilting of the mattress is preferably arranged in such a way that it comes to rest in the spaces between the springs and helps to keep the springs at the correct mutual distances.

The arrangement of the outer ring 6 makes the outer. converging ends of the spring arms 4 are held at the correct mutual spacing and thereby the shape of the springs is preserved.
