Deckelabdichtungseinrichtung an Koffern.
Lid sealing device on suitcases. It is already. Lid sealing devices have been proposed on suitcases, in which the edge of the cover is formed into a bead which comes to lie in a groove of the suitcase edge formed from a piece of sheet metal. Up until now, this channel was usually arranged in line with the wall of the suitcase and equipped with sealing materials such as plush, velvet and the like.
To complete the seal, a second channel was often obtained from the same piece of sheet metal as the first and the cover is provided with springs to the parts which penetrate into this second channel in a sealing manner. Even if the sealing properties of such a sealing device left nothing to be desired and the contents of the case were absolutely impervious to water and dust, the manufacture turned out to be quite difficult, especially as far as the corners of the case were concerned. Bending the walls of both channels at the same time was tedious and costly.
It has now been found that the waterproof and dustproof seal can be achieved with significantly simpler means if only one channel is provided instead of two channels, which, however, instead of being aligned with the case wall, is offset outside the same. The joint between the case and the lid can then be expanded so that the joint between the lid and the edge of the case is far enough from the edge of the channel that a better labyrinth seal can be obtained.
In the accompanying drawing, for example, two embodiments of the cover sealing device are shown, which are constructed according to the invention. Both figures show cuts through the joint between the lid and the case edge.
The case wall is designated with a, the lid with b. On the latter, a me-tallene bar c is attached, which extends protectively over the lid corner d and ends against the case wall e with a channel f 'which is outside the plane of the case wall and which was obtained by bending one side of the bar. The case wall has a bead g, which is also located outside the case wall and is covered with a smelling piece h.
An incision i is provided between the bead g and the upper end of the case wall, in which there is space for part f of the strip c, so that the abutting surface between the lid and case edge is located quite far from the outer edge of the channel. In this way an excellent labyrinth seal is achieved. This butt joint is equipped with plush on the lid side and a rubber band on the case side.
It is clear that the single channel is easier to bend than a double one, and that as a result the difficulties of the fabrication are considerably reduced compared to the known devices. Since the outer edge of the channel runs downwards instead of upwards as before, it is less susceptible to damage.
The second embodiment (Fig. 2) differs from the first only by the fact that the fastening rail c 'hanging with the channel is not taken around the corner of the case, but is only attached to the case lid as far as it is drawn .
