Electric ignition system for gas appliances. The object of the invention is an electrical ignition installation for gas appliances comprising a high voltage spark gap, one of the electrodes of which is the burner; said spark gap receives electric current from the secondary winding of an induction coil; furthermore, a switch actuated by a valve which controls the admission of gas to the apparatus closes the circuit of an electric current source on the primary winding, during a part of the opening movement of said valve, in the aim to ignite an electric spark in the gas stream at this time.
The appended drawing represents an embodiment of the object of the invention given by way of example.
The single figure is an overall schematic view.
In this figure A represents a burner for gas heating, receiving the latter by a pipe B provided with a valve C whose key carries a protruding pin D. When the valve is opened, this pin .D comes into contact, for an instant before the full open position is reached, with a piston E carried by an insulating part .i ^ fixed to the pipe B.
This contact closes the circuit of a battery I which supplies an induction coil, the mass of which is connected to the mass of the burner, and of which the high voltage terminal T is connected to an electrode G which is carried by an insulating pad H and the end of which is a short distance from the metal crown of the burner.
The induction coil has two bearings carried by a 8 core; the primary K is connected. in series with a trem bleur of which M is the vibrating armature provided with a spring V, N the platinized contact, and 0 the adjustable platinized screw; this is carried by a part W of non-magnetic metal which is isolated from the ground, and to which ends, on the one hand, a wire coming from point 2 common to the primary K and the secondary L of the coil, on the other hand A wire leaves from one of the terminals of a capacitor P, the other terminal of which is connected to input 1 of the primary.
The force of the spring, V of the vibrating armature M can be adjusted by means of a screw P. The mass of the burner is connected at point 4 to the core 8 of the coil.
The output 3 of the secondary winding L is connected to a plate X against which a screw Y which is electrically connected to the high voltage terminal T rests. screw could be replaced by a piston spring contact.
The input 1 of the primary winding h: is connected to a threaded rod 2 coming out of the protective casing U of the induction coil through an insulator, and forming the terminal to be connected to the battery. This threaded rod Z is mounted in an insulating stud which carries a second threaded rod, not shown in the drawing, for fixing the housing, as well as the terminal T.
The operation is as follows: By opening the tap C, the battery-earth-platinum contact - platinum screw-primary-battery circuit is closed; attracted by the core, the trem blor begins to vibrate, the spark at the platinum screw being reduced by the capacitor. A high electromotive force arises in the secondary L and causes a high voltage spark between the electrode G and the burner, in the immediate vicinity of the gas which the latter delivers; ignition occurs and the valve can then be fully opened, which cuts off the electrical circuit momentarily.
One could also imagine a valve provided with a) return spring which breaks contact E as soon as one stops acting on the key.
