Process for the production of hydrogen cyanide. The main patent protects a process for the production of hydrogen cyanide, according to which ammonia and carbon dioxide gas are brought into reaction in the presence of compounds of the rare earths at higher temperatures.
According to the present invention, the method is carried out with the proviso that compounds of vanadium, specifically in particular oxidic compounds, are used as catalysts.
The vanadium compound, for example Vana.diumoxide, can be used on its own or in association with other catalysts, in particular in association with compounds of the rare earths, the application of which for the synthesis of hydrocyanic acid is protected by the main patent.
So you can, for example, mixtures of vanadium oxide with cerium oxide, lanthanum oxide and didymium oxide, - also mixtures of, for example, vanadium oxide with, for example, aluminum oxide, thorium oxide, titanium oxide, zirconium oxide, etc. apply. Otherwise, the working conditions listed in the main patent apply to the present process.
Accordingly, for example, vanadium oxide or vanadium oxide can be used in combination with other catalytically active oxide compounds in combination with carbides or silicides. The catalysts are expediently used on supports. One can, for example, also proceed in such a way that, for example, carbides or silicides are used as supports for vanadium oxide or catalysts containing it.
It is also recommended. in the present case in the presence of considerable amounts of hydrogen or hydrogen-containing gas mixtures, such as. B. water gas to work, for example to apply 2 to 10 parts of hydrogen to 1 volume of ammonia, or to apply excess carbon, for example 2 to 10 parts of carbon to 1 volume of ammonia, or both measures at the same time, to combine other. The working temperatures are generally between 400 and <B> 800 ', </B> in particular between 500 and <B> 600', </B> temperature heights which give rise to undesired decomposition are to be avoided .
<I> Examples </I> 1. Passing a gas mixture consisting of 2 parts by volume of carbon oxide and 1 part by volume of ammonia at 550 at a flow rate of 60 m3 per hour through a pipe which contains vanadium oxide deposited as a catalyst on pottery shards , whereby the space taken up by the catalyst is approximately.
75 liters, around <B> 3.7 </B> kg of hydrocyanic acid are produced per hour along with around 12 m3 of ammonia gas, which is returned to operation after the hydrocyanic acid has been removed. can be.
2. If a gas mixture consisting of 2 parts by volume of carbon oxide and 1 part by volume of ammonia is passed at <B> 550 '</B> at a flow rate of 60 m' 'per hour over a catalyst consisting of va nadinoxy d, which on carborundum. <B> C </B>, where the space occupied by the catalyst is about 75 liters, about 4.8 kg of hydrocyanic acid are formed per hour in addition to about. 11.6 m \ converted ammonia.
3. If a gas mixture consisting of 10 parts by volume of ammonia gas is passed at 600 "C with a flow rate of 220 m 'per hour over a catalyst made of vanadium oxide, which is applied to carborundum as a support, the space occupied by the catalyst being about 75 Liters, you get about 6.0 kg of hydrogen cyanide per hour along with about 13.3 m3 of unchanged ammonia.
