Description
Process for preparing non-caking vat dye pastes. Many water-insoluble vat dyes have the unpleasant property that they settle out of their pastes after standing for a short or long period and then often bake together to form viscous masses that are difficult to mix back into homogeneous pastes.
It has now been shown that this caking can be prevented and, in many cases, settling can also be avoided if small amounts of permanganates are added to the color pastes.
Example 1 500 parts of indanthrene orange RRT dough (10%) are mixed with a concentrated aqueous solution of 0.25 part of potassium permanganate with thorough stirring. The homogeneous suspension remains for a very long time, and there is only a moderate amount of dye and no baking together.
Example 2: 500 parts of indanthrene blue RS dough (10%) are mixed with a concentrated aqueous solution of 0.5 part of potassium permanganate while stirring well. Even after standing for a long time, the paste can be easily stirred again, while the paste not mixed with permanganate has deposited a viscous mass. Example 3: 500 parts of Indigo RB 40% strength are mixed with a concentrated aqueous solution of 1 part of potassium per manganate with thorough stirring. The effect is the same as that described in the previous examples.
In the case of other dye pastes and permanents, the most appropriate proportions differ from case to case and can be easily determined.
