Process for injecting liquid fuel inside an internal combustion engine. Liu the present invention relates to a method for injecting liquid fuel into an internal combustion engine of the type in which an explosive charge is formed in a small injector cylinder which can communicate with the working cylinder. ; it also relates to a device for implementing the process.
The method according to the invention comprises two distinct operations, one for forming in the injector cylinder a mixture of part of the air compressed by the working cylinder and of the fuel admitted into the injector cylinder, and the other to force this mixture into the working cylinder.
To obtain a more complete spraying and thereby a more perfect distribution and soot combustion of the charge, a plunger combined with an independently driven valve can be used to control the injection orifice of the injector cylinder, this valve also having a extension provided with a head which both act as spreaders and distributors thus due as a throttling device for said injection port through which the charge finally enters the engine cylinder.
Such a -form of execution of the device for the implementation of the method is especially intended for small machines working according to the Diesel principle.
In a second form of the device for covering the process, the liquid fuel is introduced into the injector cylinder, containing a piston, on the side opposite to that provided with the injection orifice, then forced into the injection orifice. space located at the other side of this piston when the latter moves away from the injection orifice, through a suitable bypass.
When the oil used is discharged into this second space of the cylinder, it mixes with the air which arrives from the engine cylinder to be injected into the latter when the piston executes its delivery stroke.
This second embodiment makes it possible to obviate the losses produced by the dragging in the exhaust of droplets of vapor, of liquid and can be adapted to double-acting machines, machines. four cylinders, to machines with high or low compression and small to be used with light oil, paraphine, alcohol or with heavy oil.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, two embodiments of the positive device according to the present invention.
Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section of one of these execution faiths able to be applied to a diesel engine; The, fig. Z shows a detail of this positive device. Figs. 3 to 7 schematically show the different parts of the device in the different phases of their short work; The fi-. 8 shows in longitudinal section the second embodiment used for a two-roll machine.
With reference. more especially where 1, n denotes the end of the cy liildrc niotur of the machine, b is the cylinder of an injector which is formed by a hollow block or bush held in the engine cylinder; r designates the injector plunger and. (7 the. Spindle of an independent valve e (it works at the center of the plunger.
At the lower end of the valve e is a conical head f serving for the development of the. cliarbe upon entering the. combustion chamber g of the machine (fig. 6). This head is carried by a central rod f 1 rising from the center of the valve c.
Ii designates a duct going from the, song Lie of the injector into the engine cylinder ri This passage is arranged in the center of the base V which is screwed into the bottom of the cylinder b and which forms the head of the latter.
This passage 1a is formed of two parts of different diameters. In the, part the. wider works the valve e. while the narrower part la is arranged to receive the head f of the choke device and (1paliolliser. The opening 7a1 of this passage forms the injection orifice.
The shoulder 1y which is located between the Bleui parts of the passage h. forms the seat of the valve.
An inclined passageway i, arranged tangentially to the periphery of the duct la, leads from a point close to this shoulder to the mouth 7e-1 of the internal passage lei, through which the oil is fed. pressure by means (the one pumps, so that the air passing through the passage i meets the oil and atomizes it.
The pin d of the valve crosses axially (2- ment the plunger-injector c.
These two parts: @: adjustable olit in (depend on one of the auger and are controlled separately by means (the levers c71 and cl driven by separate cams .: These levers: also have under the action of springs which, no more than these cams, are shown The operation of these balles is known.
The parts of the device # have been adjusted (the: so that, when the plunger becomes final, # sa, injection stroke, the. Valve e (fig. 8) is closed. The conical head f carried by this valve penetrates slightly in the cylinder d, # la, machine in the. direction (read working piston a.1.
The valve e el e e # paiiouiss (#ur remaining in :; this position, the lever c withdraws a little (fib. D) and a small quantity of oil enters the device through the inlet passage. 7c1 after the start of movement of piston al to the right.
The plunger c then executes a more pronounced recoil movement (fig. 5), to ensure the elimination of any pressure in the cylinder of the device. The valve e then opens fully (stretched and admits compressed air, therefore hot, from said cylinder of the machine in which the piston al continues its compression stroke.
This air crosses passage i to arrive in the chamber (injection i) where it meets the oil which has just entered through k to transform it into spray or vapor illi while heating it up.
This is the first period of the formation of the charge. When the. valve c is half closed (fig. 6), so that bed head (the bloomed.! # ef is in the hi port of the injector, this port is constricted by this head f. At the same time,
the plunger e of the injector moves forward and the partially formed charge is forced through passage i and then through the discharge orifice so that the spraying is complete. The forced load in the cylinder passes over the conical head f with a spiral movement due to. the tangential position of passage i relative to the seat of the valve.
This completes the second period of charge formation. When the latter enters the working cylinder, the explosion occurs spontaneously in the presence of the heat produced by the compression, this in a well known manner. When the valve e is closed (fig. 7), it intercepts all communication between the injector and the working cylinder and remains in place until the end of the working stroke in the machine. The diver then begins to withdraw and the above operations are repeated.
It can be seen from the foregoing that the double action is perfectly determined, the charge being formed in part when the air passes from the machine into the cylinder of the injector and this formation being completed when the mixture returns to the injector. the opposite direction under the thrust of the injector plunger.
In addition to the head provided at the lower end of the valve, the stem could have extensions to focus spraying.
In the second embodiment, my view in fig. 8, the injector cylinder b is double-acting, the spaces above and below the piston c taking both part to the formation of the. charge. The injector piston consists. in a cylindrical block one louse longer than the. half the height of the cylinder b in which it works with gentle friction.
The rod of the eyebolt c2 passes through a cover b2. The piston is actuated by a powerful spring c3 which tends to make it penetrate into the cylinder dre, while a lever c 'actuated by a cam which is not. not shown moves it against the action of the spring mentioned above.
On one side of the cylinder is the oil inlet k which is uncovered by the piston c when the latter is in its most basic position. On the op posed side, but lower, is the discharge port of a bypass i which must be uncovered by the bottom of the piston when the latter is completely raised (see dotted line). (The ends of the piston can be made slightly inclined or at an angle, so that when the piston is turned, the desired degree of opening of the orifices which have been indicated above can be obtained.
This adjustment can be done with great accuracy.) The piston mantle c is provided with a groove, in which is housed a lar don l pressed by springs Ii countering the cylinder head in the vicinity of the -orific @, introduction of oil. This gib l is there to ensure proper sealing of the aforementioned orifice when the piston moves up and down. This sealing is perfect even when the piston moves freely inside the cylinder.
The feed pipe k for the fuel is controlled by a needle valve or some other construction.
At the center of the bottom of the injector cylinder is a conical opening h 'through which the charge is injected into the machine cylinder. This conical opening looks like a small valve seat. The bottom end has a central needle f 1 which freely enters this opening and which has a connection e 'in the form of a valve plug which fits exactly into the conical opening in question.
When the piston c is at the bottom of its stroke, the conical opening h 'is completely closed. When the piston is in its upper position (see dotted line), the needle f1. Which has been drawn with it has gradually opened up and at the end of the stroke this opening is completely open.
In the intermediate positions, the needle f 'is in the opening and the pre # q closes, thus restricting the passage and ensuring good spraying.
The bypass i is made in the wall of the cylinder. It opens to. one of the ends in the head of the latter and to the other. of these ends in the bottom of the cylinder exactly below the bottom of the piston when the latter is in its highest position (see dotted line).
When the piston c is at the bottom of its stroke, a small quantity of oil enters through the opening of the duct k. When the piston rises, the gib I covers the opening of the duct fi. The piston then discharges the oil into; the top of the cylinder which is widened as shown in L "and forces this [oil into the bypass.
This oil then passes through (the i. To reach the underside of the cylinder which at the same time receives compressed air from the engine cylinder. When the piston c goes down, it completes the mixture of the droplets of the oil and air and forces this mixture into the 1: t spray cylinder.
At the same time, the piston closes the 1> y-pasa i so well, when it continues to ash, a vacuum forms in the top of the cylinder, which is then ready <t. receive or suck the next load of oil which reaches it through pipe k.
Note that the injector piston only needs a smooth fit in the cylinder. A light game is an a.n- tage in many cases. This avoids the drawbacks of an exactly adjusted and packed piston. The wear is also reduced in corresponding proportions. The only part which must be absolutely watertight is the gib I which opens and closes the opening of the pipe k ..
The ends of the piston could be made slightly inclined or at an angle so that when the piston is turned, the desired degree of opening of the holes which have been indicated above can be obtained. This adjustment can therefore be done with great accuracy.
