Process for manufacturing cages of bearings with cylindrical or conical rollers and cages obtained by said process. The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing sheet metal cages in a single piece, for bearings with cylindrical or conical rollers, as well as the cages obtained by this method.
The process according to the invention makes it possible to obtain cages for bearings with cylindrical or conical rollers, by a series of stamping operations, starting from circular blanks taken in sheet metal.
The different phases of the process are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, by way of example. Fig. 1 shows, in schematic form, the series of operations for the implementation of the process for manufacturing cages with cylindrical rollers; Fig. 2 is an axial section of a cylindrical roller cous sinet with, in the upper part, the product obtained in accordance with FIG. 1 (radial openings and cutouts, with the outer ring of the bearing removed) and, in the lower part, the cage completed by folding the fingers between the rollers; Fig. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 1, but concerning the manufacture of cages with conical rollers; Fig. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 2, relating to a bearing with tapered rollers.
In fig. 1, we see at I a circular blank caught in a sheet of metal. This blank a is brought, in a known manner, to the shape shown in II, by one (or more) stamping operation, carried out using a die b and a punch c.
The phase indicated in III shows the final con formation of the wing a1 of a cage with cylindrical rollers.
Note the particular profile of this wing a1, which has a swollen part a2, facilitating the stamping operation, giving rigidity to the wing and to the entire cage, and ensuring in significant proportions were there. decrease in friction with the side faces of the rollers during operation in a bearing.
The necessary tools consist of a punch d and a matrix composed of e and f. The part e of the die, which is itself (when it is desired to use it for sub-sequential operations) established in several parts, presents, in the immediate vicinity of the bore e1, a circular bulge e2 thanks to which the wing a1 of the cage is shaped with its bulge a2.
At this stage of manufacture, the bottom a7 of the blank a is smashed as it is represented in IV.
In V, we find the blank a arranged on a die composed of the element e already used and a new element g, also established in several parts and having a conical surface g1 serving to initiate the bending of the second wing h of the cage. The punch i has a cylindrical part i1. and a frustoconical part i2, of the same inclination as the part g1 of the element g of the matrix.
The guiding of the blank a is obtained using a support, of suitable profile, centered in the blank a.
In VI, we see the operation during which the second wing h is definitively shaped. The blank a is centered on a support k, which may be the same as the support j already used; the matrix is composed of the element e already used, of a second element e3 identical to the element e, and of a third element m constituted by two half-rings, arranged between the flat faces of the elements e and e3, and allowing the release of the entire matrix em-e3.
The punch used n has a cylindrical part n1. centering in the blank a, and a circular wing n2, having a circular recess n3 conforming the second wing h of the cage with a bulge h1 similar to the bulge a2 of the wing a1.
The cage being thus obtained, only by stamping operations, there is nothing more than to cut radially in the body a of said cage rectangular openings (or trapezoidal), serving as housing for the rollers, and, in the wings a1 and h, recesses providing the tongues or fingers, which are, when fitting an inner bushing ring, folded between the rollers.
Of course (fig. 2), the radial openings a3, in which are distributed the rollers p arranged around the inner ring g of the pad, as well as the recesses a4 between the tabs a5, and the recesses h2 between the tabs h3 , could be cut between the operations indicated in IV and V, without modifying anything in the cutting process.
fig. 3 which shows, with respect to the production of tapered roller cages, the same stamping operations as that described with reference to FIG. 1 for obtaining cylindrical roller cages, the same reference characters designate the same parts of the stamping tool. However, if the element e of the matrix can, as in fig. 1, to be used for the realization of the operations indicated in III, IV, V and VI, the element e3 used in VI is obligatorily of a different standard from the element e having regard to the different inclinations which must present the body a and wings a1 and h of the cage.
In II, III and IV, the punch d, instead of ending with a cylindrical part, as in fig. 1, has a conical part whose degree of taper must correspond to the degree of taper of the tapered rollers that the final product will be called upon to retain and guide.
In V, the punch i has no cylindrical part.
The frustoconical part i2 of the punch i blank, as in FIG. 1, the folding of the second wing h of the cage, while the support j centers, over a significant length, the conical blank a.
In VI, the punch n used for the final formation of the aid la. does not include any centering extension, and the conical part of the support k penetrates as far as possible into the corresponding conical bore of the draft a.
The product obtained in accordance with FIG. 3 is shown in the upper part of FIG. 4, with the tapered rollers p arranged in the radial openings a3; the lower part of the same figure shows the cage completely finished with the tongues, or fingers, a5 and h3, suitably folded between the conical rollers p.
