Description
Process for the preparation of perylenetetracarboxylic acid. It has been found that the violet vat dye obtainable according to the information in German patent specification No. 283066 by fusing the perinaphthindanone with alkali by treatment with oxidizing agents probably according to the equation
EMI0001.0006
in the Perylerrtetrakarbonsäure, respectively. anhydride passes into it. Both acidic and alkaline oxidizing agents can be used to obtain the acid.
Perylenetetracarboxylic acid is a valuable intermediate product for the preparation of vat dyes, as it is converted into valuable vat dyes, for example with amines.
Example 1: 10 parts by weight of that described in German Patent No. 283066, by fusing. Perinaphtindarions of violet vat dye obtainable with caustic alkali are treated in the heat with an alkaline solution of 12 "o parts by volume of sodium hypochlorite with a content of 15.4% NaC10,
until the purple color of the solution has disappeared and turned into a reddish yellow. When acidified at high temperature, the anhydride of the perylenetetracarboxylic acid separates out in red, water-insoluble flakes, which are filtered off and washed out. Instead of sodium hypochlorite, sodium hypobromite or permanganate can be used.
Example 2: 10 parts by weight of the violet vat dye according to Example 1 (cf. German Patent No. 283066 is finely divided with 150 parts by weight of a 10% aqueous solution Solution of chromic acid potash and 50 parts by weight of 50% sulfuric acid heated until a filtered and washed sample of the precipitate dissolves in dilute alkalis with a reddish yellow color and green fluorescence.
The resulting acid or in the insoluble state. their anhydride is filtered off and washed out. It is identical to that obtained in Example 1.
The concentration and amount of chromic acid used can vary within wide limits. In their place, other oxidizing agents, such as hyperanganic acid, can be used with the same result.
