Description
Process for the preparation of durable colloidal solutions of silver. Experiments carried out by us have shown that if you enter silver compounds, which can give silver soaps with fats or fatty acids even in the cold or when heated, in fats at 200-300 ', the whole thing is filtered and treated with hydrogen, colloidal silver solutions arise. The treatment with hydrogen can take place in the heat, dropping approximately from 250-200 C, whereby the fatty acid silver is broken down into metallic silver and fatty acid. It also turned out that this reduction phenomenon can be increased by taking another measure.
This measure consists in adding small amounts of an oil-soluble reducing agent, such as hydroquinone, to the fats that are used, so that more of the reduced silver is colloidally dissolved.
The means mentioned make it possible to obtain stable colloidal solutions in fats. As a silver compound, in particular the mixture of silver oxide-silver hydroxide, as obtained by precipitating a silver salt solution with sodium hydroxide solution, can be used, but other silver compounds can also be used instead, which decompose with the formation of silver oxide and also silver soaps can form. such as silver oxalate.
The colloidal solution of silver produced by this process is able to dissolve both metallic mercury and mercury compounds after prolonged shaking, but especially when heating, so that colloidal mercury is also in solution in addition to colloidal silver.
Example 1: 100 grams of castor oil are heated to 200 C, then 2 grams of a silver oxide-silver hydroxide mixture, as obtained by precipitating a silver salt solution with sodium hydroxide solution, with stirring and increasing the temperature to 300 Degree entered, heated for a while and filtered. Hydrogen is introduced into the hot filtrate until a maximum blackening is reached, which can be recognized by the constancy of the colorimetic effect.
Example 2: The procedure is as in Example 1, except that 0.3 gram of hydroquinone is stirred into 100 grams of oil or fat before the silver compound is introduced.
