Earth fault protection of machines. The Holmgren circuit is widely used to protect against earth faults to protect the line network. In this case, the current coil of a wattmetric relay is fed by the currents in secondary windings connected in parallel from current transformers built into the lines, while the voltage coil is influenced by the voltage between zero and earth.
However, difficulties arise when the Ilolmgren circuit is to be used to protect a generator. In order to protect the generator alone, the converters of the Holmgren circuit must lie between the generator and the network in such a way that it is only switched off in the event of a ground fault in itself and not in the event of a fault in the network. If arranged on the other side of the generator, it would also be switched off in the event of a ground fault in the network.
Since the direction relay should make contact if a ground fault occurs in the generator, energy must flow from the network to the fault location if the current transformer is between the generator and the network. This can of course happen as long as other generators are connected to the network. It can also happen if the line on which the generator works has a large earth capacitance.
In contrast, an insufficient amount of fault energy will flow from the network into the machine if the generator is working on a low capacity, for example directly on a transformer, or if it is switched off. The latter case plays a role for line networks of all types.
In the cases mentioned, in which the simple Holmgren circuit for the protection of generators fails, the shutdown of the machine in the event of an internal earth fault, the contact of the wattmetric relay of the Holmgren circuit with the Kon is according to the invention a second relay connected in series in the circuit of the trip coil, which is influenced by the current strength in the zero point resistance, for example a voltage relay that is connected to the terminals of the zero point resistance.
The contact of the voltage relay is resolved every time a ground fault occurs in the machine or line while the contact is made. Wattmetric relay interrupts the circuit of the tripping coil if fault energy flows from the machine into the line, i.e. if the fault is outside the machine.
The machine is therefore secured in such a way that it is switched off in any case in the event of an internal earth fault, because then both the voltage relay closes and the contact of the wattmetric relay remains closed.
The figure shows a Ausführungsbei game of the circuit according to the invention using the example of a three-phase generator. Lines 1, 2 and 3 coming from the three Plias_ @ n- windings 4, 5 and 6 of the generator :; after. go outside, go over three currents, # vandler i, 8 and 9, whose secondary windings are connected in parallel and work on the current coil of a wattmetric relay 10.
The voltage coil of this relay is lived through a transformer 11 to a zero point resistor 12. A voltage relay 13 is added to this arrangement, which is known per se, which, like the voltage coil of the watt metric relay, loves the 5 second terminals of the voltage converter 11.
The contact of the wattmetric relay at 14 and that of the voltage relay at 1.5 are switched in Reilie in the circuit of the Auslösespiile 16, whose terminals are 17 on. The picture shows the state of the circuit with a fault-free machine and fault-free line. The current in the zero point resistance is then practically zero.
The size of the zero point resistance should be such that the withdrawal currents from other, parallel -connected- 0, r e n th generators, which the '. \' Ullpiinli:
flow through tswider- tancl, do not trigger the voltage relay. The contact of the voltage relay is then open and the tripping circuit is interrupted. The contact of the -wattmetric relay is normally closed.
The contact tongue deflects to the right and only interrupts the ion valley if, with one lead of the three currents in lines 1,? And 3 and simultaneous excitation of the late coil 4 the machine flows into the pipe, i.e.
when there is an external earth cliff. Through the deflection 'of the wattmetric relay, the trip circuit is broken in the event of an earth fault @ outside the machine.
