Vehicle tipping device. The present invention relates to a reversing device for a vehicle, particularly advantageous for self-propelled railroads where it is especially useful to obtain two directions of travel with the same efficiency, that is to say to have exactly the same number of gears engaged for both directions of travel. The device in question makes it possible to achieve this result: it is characterized by a sliding gear mounted on the driving axle and carrying two angle crowns which can mesh alternately with a control pinion connected to the motor.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a schematic section of the first embodiment; Figs. 2 and 8 are elevation and plan diagrams of the second embodiment.
In fig. 1; each driving axle 1 carried in its middle of the splines on which one can slide. sleeve 2 integral with two conical rings 3 and 4. A longitudinal shaft 5 connected to the engine carries a pin 6. By moving the sleeve 2, either to the right or to the left, on the axis of the axle, it is possible to make alternately mesh the crowns 3 and 4 with the pinion 6. The direction of rotation of the shaft 5 does not change; it is therefore the direction of rotation of the axle 1 which varies depending on whether one or the other of the crowns 3 or 4 is engaged.
The position of the sleeve 2 on the axle 1 is determined by the two ball bearings 7, the common ring of which is integral with a sleeve 8. This sleeve is centered on "the axle housing and carries a thread 9 and a Crown gear 10. The casing 11 is itself threaded so as to receive the thread 9 of the sleeve 8 which can therefore be seen longitudinally in the casing A pinion 12 meshes with the teeth 10 of the sleeve 8. This pinion 12 is mounted on a shaft 13 carried by the axle housing and is controlled by a pair of angle gears 14 which, itself, is controlled by a shaft 15. A crank 16 controls this shaft 15 via an angle transmission 17. The sleeve 8 carries a shoulder 18 which abuts at each end position against the axle housing.
In order to lock the device in the extreme position shown in the drawing, the shoulder 18 carries, on its circumference, a recess in which exactly a lock 24 engages. This lock is held in the closed position by a spring and a lever 25.
When the crank 16 is pressed on its axis, a shoulder 22 of this crank comes to press on the end of an angled screw 26 which, by means of a traction rod 27 and a second return 28 actuates the lever 25. The fact of pressing the crank on its axis therefore aims to release the latch 24 and to release the sleeve 8. At the end of the operation, when the sleeve 8 is in its Another stop position, another notch of the shoulder 18 is presented in front of the latch 24 and, when the crank 16 is withdrawn, the latch 24 engages in this notch thanks to the force of its spring.
It is obvious that we can combine the pitch of the thread 9 with the axial stroke of 8 so that it is the same notch which serves for locking in both cases.
It is in the interest of forcing whoever operates this control device to actuate it to the end in each direction so as to be sure of the engagement of the angle gears and of their correct adjustment. This is achieved as follows: The crank shaft 19 controls the disk 20 by means of a gear reducer 21. The gears are provided such that the disk 20 makes exactly one revolution for the full stroke of the gear. sleeve S. The crank 16 carries a shoulder 22, the diameter of which is proportioned so as to pass exactly through a notch 23 of the disc 20 (FIG. 1).
It is therefore possible to place the crank on the control shaft 19 only when the notch 23 is in the position corresponding to an extreme position of the sleeve S.
As soon as the operation of the gear change device has been started, the notch of the disc 20 moves and it is im possible to withdraw the crank until this notch has returned to its original position. that is to say when the sleeve 8 is stopped in one of its extreme positions.
Another safety device would consist in providing the sleeve 8 with a switch in tercalée on the ignition circuit of the magnet to in the case of an explosion engine. It is obvious that the two mechanical and electrical devices can be used together or separately.
Figs. 2 and 3 relate to a vehicle with three powered axles. A motor 30 controls, by means of a clutch 32 and a gearbox 33 provided with a certain number of forward gears and a reverse gear, a longitudinal shaft 31 which can be made in one piece or in several sections joined by universal joints or elastic joints. This shaft directly attacks the rear axle 35 and the other two axles 36 and 37 by means of two angle transmissions 38 and 39.
It will be noted that the ordinary transmission of the vehicle independently of the gear change described above already includes a reverse gear intended for small maneuvers of short duration.
The change of gear by sliding wheel on axle being reserved on arrival at the head of the line; it will be maneuvered either from the car itself by the driver, or from the outside by an employee, as the maneuvers of trolleys and outlet by gutter are done in electric trams by an employee other than the driver.
The crank 40 is provided with the safety device 41 similar to that shown in FIG. 1 and drive by angle transmission a shaft 42 in one piece or in several pieces joined by cardan joint or elas tick. This shaft 42 carries as many angle transmissions 43 as there are drive axles and each of these angle transmissions controls a pinion 44 which actuates a sleeve 45 analogous to the sleeve 8 of FIG. 1.
