Fig. 1 est une coupe de l'une de ces formes; Fig. 2 en est une vue en bout partielle, prise dans la direction de la flèche A de fig. 1; Fig. 3 est une coupe d'une autre forme clans laquelle on utilise, en plus du piston actionné au moyen de la pression dans le col, un second piston ouvert du côté de l'orifice d'admission de pression du tube Venturi;
Pour permettre de rappeler la. soupaped :commande f après qu'à eu lieu la fermeture décrite. ci-dessus, lorsqu'on désire que la vanne soit ouverte îi nouveau, la butée r, por tée par la tige 7;
Self-closing valve. The invention relates to automatic iron valves and more particularly to valves used in water pipes to cut off the current when an abnormal drop in pressure occurs downstream of the position of the valve, as may be the case. case, for example when there is a rupture of the main pipe or when an abnormal depression acts on the pipe.
To achieve the object of the invention, the well-known law of Venturi is used, which says that when a fluid passes through a pipe of decreasing cross section, the. lateral pressure on the walls of this tube is inversely proportional to the speed of passage of the liquid through this tube.
According to the invention the obturation of the. valve is arranged so as to close, in its active position, the constricted neck of a Ven turi tube interposed in this pipe, means being provided so that the closing of this shutter is controlled automatically when a reduction in the pressure occurs. lateral pressure in the constricted neck, due to an abnormal speed of passage of the liquid through this. col.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, two embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a section of one of these shapes; Fig. 2 is a partial end view thereof, taken in the direction of arrow A in FIG. 1; Fig. 3 is a section of another form in which there is used, in addition to the piston actuated by means of the pressure in the neck, a second piston open on the side of the pressure inlet of the Venturi tube;
Fig. 4 shows a third form in which the two pistons, instead of being placed side by side, as in the form of FIG. 3, are arranged coaxially. This fi gure also shows a variant of the shutter; Fig. 5 and 6 show separately a detail of the form shown in FIG. 4. Referring first to the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 we see that this indicates a Venturi tube -disposed in the pipe whose flow we want to control.
In the cry strangled neck of this tube is placed an obturator b working vertically. This shutter is arranged to cut off the current through ai in its closed position.
The shutter rod c carries, fixed to it, a piston d working in a cylinder r #. On the side of this cylinder c is fixed a control valve f which communicates, on the one hand, by a pipe y with the. conduit at the inlet of the Venturi tube a, on the other hand, by conduits la and i with the spaces of the cylinder e being respectively on and under the piston d, and finally by a conduit y with the exhaust.
The arrangement of this valve is such that, whatever the face of the piston d which is connected: on the pressure side, its opposite face is always connected to the exhaust.
In this form the control valve f is a slide valve.
Under the rod k. to this control valve is fixed a small cylinder I whose lower end communicates with the neck ai of the Venturi tube by a pipe iii. In this cylinder l works a piston n whose. rod, projecting upwards, 7z ', ends in a fork provided with a roller o, in which the long arm p works of an angled lever p, pi pivoted on an axis < I> q. The free end of the bisas p is provided with a counterweight p \, while the short arm p 'comes.
support by its free end against a stop r worn even. rod 7s.
As long as the flow through the Venturi_ tube is normal, the lateral pressure in the neck ai acts on the lower side of the piston ri and keeps the long arm p of the elbow lever raised against the action of the piston. counterweight P \. The rod le of the control valve f, in this position of the bent lever,
is. hand held in a position such that the control valve admits pressurized fluid under the piston d and connects the space above this piston with the exhaust, whereby the shutter b is kept suspended. therefore open.
If the pressure in the pipe downstream of the valve falls abnormally, the increase in the speed of the passage of the fluid through the neck c, 'resulting therefrom causes a lowering of the lateral pressure in this neck and consequently a lowering of the pressure maintained under the piston ni .. The counterweight p2 then acts in proportion to this lowering of pressure to cause the cranked lever to move down around its pivot q in the direction of clockwise.
The arm p 'of this lever% la, this then the rod l; = of the. control valve f to the. right (fig. 2), so that this valve cuts off the admission of pressurized fluid under the underside of piston d and opens the admission of said fluid above the upper face of: this piston, which. as a result of lowering the shutter b.
It will be noted that by adjusting the coiitr-2-weight pf2, it is possible to adjust at will the value of the lowering of the pressure regulated in the pipe downstream of the Venturi tube, sa.irc # to effect the complete closure of the valve. valve.
To make it possible to recall the. valve d: command f after the described closing has taken place. above, when it is desired that the valve be opened again, the stop r, carried by the rod 7;
of this valve f, with which the arm p 'cooperates, preferably has the form of a fork pivoted to the rod k, at 71. The inner sides of the two branches of this fork, which embrace the rod k. are tilted to an appropriate angle in) -2. After due the mechanism operated to close the valve,
the stopper r can be lifted around its pivot r 'and the rod l, pulled towards the. left (fig. 2) to. the hand to reverse the control performed by the valve f.
The free end of the arm p 'of the angled lever then presses on the inner side of the stopper r, that is to say it is located between this stopper and the control valve.
As, however, the elbow lever turns on turn (let its pivot q, in an anti-clockwise direction, driven by the rise of the piston which occurs as soon as the pressure reigning in the pipe downstream of the Venturi tube becomes normal again, the free end of the lever arm p 'pushes back the inclined faces r2 of the stop r and thus causes the latter to oscillate around its pivot r1, until it is leave the passage free to return to its initial position (fig. 2).
To allow easy adjustment of the. position of the control valve an indicator is used having the form, for example, of an index integral with the movements of the rod of the control valve and moving on a corresponding graduated dial (not shown).
In the form shown, fig. 3, a second cylinder is placed next to cy- linder 1. This cylinder s communicates by its base with the inlet of the Venturi tube by a pipe t. A piston s', working in the cylinder s,, has its rod s2 connected to an extension 1> 3 of the elbow lever which actuates the rod of the control valve.
In this form the counterweight p2 acting on the arm p of the lever is removed, the. pressure reigning there. conducted upstream of the. valve which acts under the piston itself tending to tilt the elbow lever clockwise to control the rightward movement of the control valve stem, but this. action is limited by the action of the,
pressure prevailing in the neck a 'of the Venturi tube under the piston qa. A movable weight p4,: adjustable in position on the extension p ", allows to adjust the degree of pressure reduction under the piston -u, necessary to order the complete closing of the valve.
In the form shown fis. 4, the cylinders l and s, instead of being arranged side by side as in the form of fis. 3, are coaxial and have a common stem ii. In addition, the control valve, instead of being a slide valve as in the. first embodiment (fis. 1 and 2) is a four-way valve v having connections analogous to those of this slide valve.
An arm 2v, pivotally connected to the rod ii,, has its. head mounts on a short axis 2v 'mounted to pivot and carrying at its end a disc w2 provided with a projection w3. An adjustable counterweight arm x. Also has its head fixed on the axis 2v '.
The projection w "can initiate a projection y 'carried by a spring plunger y', which in turn is carried by an arm rj attached to the rotary needle v 'of the four-way valve. In the normal position, de these parts the projection w3 presses against the projection y1 (fig. G). of such,
so that when the axis w 'tilts as a result of the movement of the piston ri, the arm also swings there and the four-way valve is actuated to ad put fluid under pressure above the piston d and connect the lower face of this piston with the exhaust.
To return the apparatus to its rest position, the plunger -y \ is lowered so that the projection y 'moves radically inward without encountering the 2v3 projection. The arm can then be operated by hand to reverse the tap. to four lanes and thus open the.
valve, the gradual rise of the piston causing the projection w "to gradually release from the outer curved face y3 of the projection y '. The spring-loaded plunger allows the latter to move inward under the valve. action of the projection w3 and returns the projection y to its normal position when the projection 2v3 has passed by.
The operation of this form is similar to that of the previous form, except that instead of an arm p 'of the angled lever, driven to rockers when a pressure drop occurs under the piston P., which imparts a sliding movement to the stem of a control valve, it is, in this form, the movement of the piston which imposes a partial rotational movement at the needle of a four-way valve replacing this valve. .
It should be noted that the cylinders l and s, instead of being arranged horizontally, as shown fis. 4, could just as well be arranged vertically one below the other.
In order to prevent eddies from occurring, when the valve is open, in the neck of the Venturi tube, due to the. presence (the depression cc ', necessary to receive the lower edge of the shutter when the latter is closed, it is possible to provide in the known manner an annular part which moves with the shutter so as to come, when the latter is raised, fill in the depression cc "and restore: thus the exact contour of the neck.
Ira, depression a \ is then made sufficiently deep to be able to accommodate this annular member when the shutter is lowered. Instead of using this annular member, the washer, disposed in the neck, upstream of the valve to guide the latter, could be "slightly narrowed, so as to concentrate the water jet sufficiently so that he skips depression a '.
