Die Zeichnung veranschaulicht die Erfin dung in zwei beispielsweisen Ausfüllrungs- formen. Fig. 1 ist eine Vorderansicht des gemäss einer ersten Ausführungsform der Erfindung ausgebildeten Entladungsgefässes,- - Fig. 2 eine Seitenansicht desselben, und Fig. 3 ein Schnitt dadurch;

Highly evacuated discharge vessel with electron source and anode. The subject of the invention is a highly evacuated discharge vessel with an electron source and anode, in which the electrons between the electron source (glow wire)
and anode, the distance covered by at least one constant magnetic field and at least one constant electrical field counteracting this field with regard to its effect on the free electrons is influenced in such a way that the discharge path acts as a negative resistance. The electric field can be formed by an auxiliary electron stream,
which is generated by an auxiliary discharge which crosses the main discharge and passes between a glow hat and an anode. Such a discharge vessel can be used for all those purposes for which discharge paths with negative resistance are advantageous, for example for generating, amplifying, rectifying etc. electrical alternating currents and oscillations.
The drawing illustrates the invention in two exemplary fill-out forms. FIG. 1 is a front view of the discharge vessel designed according to a first embodiment of the invention, FIG. 2 is a side view of the same, and FIG. 3 a cut through it;
4 shows a circuit diagram of the discharge vessel according to FIGS. 1 to 3 for the case of vibration generation, FIG. 4a shows a circuit for amplification purposes; FIGS. 5 and 6 show a second embodiment of the discharge vessel in connection with other circuits.
The discharge vessel according to FIGS. 1 to 4, which is evacuated to such an extent that no noticeable ionization, that is to say no glowing light, occurs at the electron source, contains a conventional filament 1 and a plate-shaped anode 2. In order to make it easier for the electrons to emerge from it, the filament can be surrounded by a grid 3, known per se, to which a small positive voltage is applied. A metal surface 4, which is used to generate a constant electrical field, lies essentially parallel to the discharge path.
In the example shown, this metal surface 4 consists of a plate which runs parallel to the discharge path and which has about the length of the discharge path. Perpendicular to the electric field is a Mag net 5, for example an electromagnet, arranged, whose lines of force are perpendicular to the direction of the electric field of the plate 4 (perpendicular to the paper surface). Both fields are perpendicular to the direction of movement (Peil I in FIG. 4) of the electrons, which move from the glowdralite 1 to the anode 2.
On the moving electrons, they counteract each other, namely they exert a laterally deflecting effect on the electrons moving in the direction of the arrow 1 . The electrostatic field of the plate 4 tries to deflect the electrons in the direction of the arrows 11 , while the electromagnetic field tries to deflect them in the direction of the arrow 111 . When it is started up, the tube is adjusted in such a way that the deflecting effects II and III cancel each other out, so that the path of the electrons runs essentially in a straight line between the filament 1 and the anode 2.
After initial adjustment in this sense, any increase in the voltage between .zlnode 2 and cathode 1 caused in any way (for example by inductive superimposition) will result in an increase in the speed of the electrons. This changes the force effect (11) of the electric field and also that (ITI) of the magnetic field on the electrons, namely that (III) of the magnetic field is stronger than that (II) of the electromagnetic field,
so (let the former deflect the electrons accelerated by the rope, i.e. the path of the electrons will lie on an arc, the plane of which is roughly perpendicular to the plate, 4. Each such deflection of the electrons means an extension of the path of the electrons. The consequence of this path - prolonged, there is a decrease in the field strength 9 1- # of the anode and a consequence of this in turn is a reduction in the removal of electrons from the filament.
This means that the current passing through the relief line has decreased despite the increase in the voltage at the anode. This is a characteristic tim of a relief vessel with negative resistance or falling characteristic.
If it was said that the lengthening of the path of the electrons, as a result of their deflection by the magnetic field, leads to a decrease in the field strength of the anode, then naturally it must be taken into account that the increase in the anode voltage beforehand naturally also results in a reduction which caused the anode field strength.
The tube can now easily be adjusted by constructive measures in such a way that the decrease in the anode field strength due to the deflection of the electrons is greater than the previous increase in the field strength due to the increase in voltage. In some cases, the protective grille 3 also carries that on a battery 10. with a voltage of 10 to 30 volts , is part of the process of achieving this desired effect.
FIG. 4 illustrates a posture scheme for the case of vibration generation. The oscillation circuit 6 lies between cathode 1 and anode 2. The high-voltage battery <B is in the Leitunk-s branch between self-oscillation circuit 6 and anode 2 > 7, about 9-00 volts, switched on. The electric field of the plate 4 is generated by a battery 8 of approximately 100 volts, the other pole of which is connected to the cathode 1 .
The electromagnet 5 receives any kind of li: onstante Stromztifi-ting, which if necessary can also be taken from the battery 9 of the glow wire.
The visual oscillation circuit 6 consists individually of a self-induction 6a and a capacitor 6b lying parallel to it. The oscillations in this circle arise at the moment of switching on and are amplified and maintained in the same fundamental way as is known when such a resonant circuit and a negative resistance are connected in series (see Year Book of Wireless Telegraphy and Telephony, 1919, Volume 14, Issue 1, Page 60 and following, Fig. 11,
and Heff 2, page 161, under no. 9, also Barkhausen, "The problem of Seliwin- ('ungszeugung", Leipzig, 1907 . Verlag Hir- 7.e.1, page 68, where the negative resistance, an arc, itself lies in the oscillation circuit; with regard to the reinforcing effect of the negative, active resistance, see ibid Page 46, middle, and page 49, bottom, µ 22;
Zenneck, "Textbook of wire-less telegraphy", 1916, Stuttgart, page 269, third paragraph) on the equivalence of the circuit types.
In addition to being a vibration generator, the discharge vessel can also be used as an amplifier. In this case, instead of the oscillating circuit S 6 , the low-frequency traffic line 27 whose currents are to be amplified, for example by means of a transformer 30, like that Partial figure 4a shows connected.
The traffic line 27 formed as a double line connects the two intercommunicating stations 28, 29, and the discharge vessel is now regulated more so that its negative resistance equates to the positive damping resistance of the line 27 approximately compensates. (With exact equalization, a self-tinting would occur, which must be avoided.) This method is known for such intermediate amplifiers with negative resistance acting in both directions.
An amplifier acting on one side arises on the other hand if the currents to be amplified from an incoming line are brought up to a grid of the discharge vessel in a known manner and instead of the resonant circuit of FIG. 4, or the transformer 30 / B > Fig. 4a switches on the telephone of the receiving station.
Such unilateral amplifiers are known to be provided on the end stations as so-called output amplifiers. Generally, tubes with falling characteristics (negative resistance) allow a ver. Achieve power that by far exceeds that of the usual three-electrode discharge tubes without falling characteristics, because the positive resistance of the telephone or the line is compensated for by the negative resistance of the tube, so that it disappears.
If, instead of the low-frequency microphone currents, high-frequency reception currents (for example from a radio telegraphic receiving station) are directed to the grid or the probe, the discharge vessel also acts as a rectifier, i.e. as a detector. If, furthermore, an oscillation circuit is switched in Reilie with the telephone mentioned, it acts as an overlay (ultraaudion).
To use the discharge vessel as a telephone transmitter for wireless telephony, the microphone currents are to be fed either to the anode, or the side plate, or the electromagnet, or the target grille, or the probe.
Instead of just one electric and one magnetic field, several pairs of such fields could naturally also be arranged alternately in such a way that the path of the electrons after being deflected by the macmetic fields represents a serpentine line n. The organ 4 generating the electric field can instead be located in the tube outside the tube, or it can be generated by the second, oppositely charged ora, which is arranged on the other side of the discharge vessel.
The latter arrangement would have the effect that the lines of force of the electric field run exactly perpendicular to the discharge line.
The plate 4 and also the anode 2 can also be latticed or perforated in some way.
FIGS. 5 and 6 show a second filling form of the discharge vessel which has the purpose of improving the mode of operation. The electric field, which in the embodiment of FIGS. 1 to 4 is a pure force field, is here converted into a kinetic field. For this purpose.
an auxiliary field is created by an auxiliary electron current which has a direction crossing the main discharge and passes between an auxiliary hot cathode and (-inpr anode the consequence is that in this way more energetic dif- conditions are created for the emergence of a falling characteristic.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 1 to 4, the main discharge takes place between the cathode 1 and the anode 2. As already mentioned, the cathode can be surrounded by a pull-out grid 3 . As before, the magnetic field is generated by the electromagnetic coil 5 indicated as a dash-dotted circle.
What is new here is that a second glow cathode 14 is arranged opposite the side plate 4 (Fig. 5), and the plate -1 also represents the anode of the auxiliary discharge mentioned. The auxiliary electron flow passes between these two electrodes 4, 14, which corresponds to that of the main discharge, which passes between 1 and 2, the impact circumference of these side electrons depends on their quantity and their G 'c # spliwindi, -1,: eit ab.
The latter can be changed as desired by changing the voltage between the auxiliary electrodes 4.14 kn zn n. The number of auxiliary electrons can be increased by changing the dimensions of the incandescent filament, auxiliary cathode 14. Zweel #: m.Issi (y will also omit the auxiliary tn hatbode 14 with an extract (, itter 1,1.
Fig. 5 illustrates, if one thinks -i (h, sz telephone 18 ) to be short-circuited at first, a pure generator circuit. Jureh the battery 9 The heated glow cathode 1 is connected to the anode 2 via the vibration circuit 6 and the high voltage battery 7 . The vibration circuit 6 is Z-, coupled to the antenna 19 .
The auxiliary hathode 14, which is heated by the battery 17 , is connected to the auxiliary anade 4 via the battery 8 . The Her - ?, u, - 7iehgitter < B> 3 is positively charged by a battery 10 and the pull-out grid 15 by a battery 16 .
The mode of operation of the generator is exactly the same as that of the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 to 4, only the conditions for a falling characteristic occur more sharply as a result of the sharper action of the electrical field formed by the auxiliary electron flow .
If the telephone 18 is switched on, this circuit acts as a receiver for undamped vibrations arriving in the antenna>, that is to say as a superimposition receiver.
It is the main anode 2, as well as possibly the auxiliary anode 4, with its surface in the direction of the associated discharge path, ie upright to the cathode 14 and / or. 4, to lay. This has the advantage that the two Eleldroneiib, -, ilineii intersect in a much defining line.
The circuit according to FIG. 6 has proven particularly effective. In this, the antenna 19 is not coupled to the visual vvino, unosI # reis 6 - n el n pelt, but with a coil 20, one end of which is connected to a capacitor 21 in terbinclun (r. Parallel to the latter there is a hollow resistor 22.
The coil 20 is on the one hand -immediately either on a before BEZW. Behind the pull-out grid 3 are the grid of the main discharge or connected to one of the auxiliary discharge and on the other hand connected via the capacitor 21 to the associated T-cathode.
The control grids of the external discharge are marked with 23 and 24, those of the auxiliary discharge with 25 and 26 . EI s Thus the connection F of the coil 20 is connected to the punhi R, and the connection W is connected to the points 11 or P or the connection Y </ B > with A and the connection B 'with B or C.
If the switch is to be used for wireless telephony purposes according to FIG. 6, the telephone is short-circuited and the low-frequency speech currents from a microphone are connected to one of the above-mentioned stereos via an iron core transformer Liergitter and passed to the associated cathode.
One time the secondary electrons and the other time the main electrons are controlled and the undamped vibrations of the speech are modulated accordingly.
