Abstract
Method, system and apparatus for a voice interface that facilitates retrieval of content from an online social media platform. One of the methods includes receiving, by a client on a user device, a request for content from a social media platform, wherein the client is configured to provide a voice interface for the platform; generating questions to specify the request for content, wherein the questions are asked by the voice interface; generating a suitable request to the server of the social media platform to retrieve content; generating a readable text string based on the content retrieved from the server; generating a response message by (i) generating an audio file of the readable text string as the audio portion of the response message, and (ii) including text, image or video from the content as the graphical portion of the response message; and outputting, by the client, the response message through the user device.
Description
This specification designates technologies for a voice interface that facilitates retrieving and communicating social media content. Social media content is content posted to an online social media platform, including text, image and video content.
The technologies generally involve receiving a voice request from a user to retrieve social media content. A voice request is a request produced using the person's voice that is recorded using a microphone in the user device. The user device can generate text from detected speech in the recording using suitable speech-to-text technology. In response to the voice request, the system can generate questions to specify the voice request, e.g. what is the name of a specific account on the social media platform, that it asks the user. After the voice request is made, the user device generates a suitable request to retrieve content from the server of the online social media platform. In some implementations, the voice request is modified to suit the social media platform.
The user device automatically generates a readable text string based on the social media content retrieved from the server, e.g. the original text in the social media content with website links removed. The user device can generate an audio file of the readable text string using suitable text-to-speech technology. The social media content is communicated to the user though a loudspeaker that outputs the audio file of the readable text string and through a graphical display that outputs text, image and/or video found in the social media content.

Claims
1. A method, comprising:
receiving, by a client running on a user device, a request to retrieve content from an online social media platform, wherein the client is software running on the user device, wherein the client is configured to provide a voice interface for the platform, and wherein the request is received through the voice interface;
generating, by the client, in response to the request, questions to specify the request, wherein the questions are dependent on the request, and wherein the questions are asked through the voice interface;
generating a suitable request to the server of the social media platform based on the user's spoken request;
generating a readable text string based on the content retrieved from the server;
generating a response message by (i) generating an audio file of the readable text string as the audio portion of the response message, and (ii) including text, image or video from the content as the graphical portion of the response message;
and outputting, by the client, the response message through the user device.

generating a response message by (i) generating an audio file of the readable text string as the audio portion of the response message, and (ii) including text, image or video from the content as the graphical portion of the response message;
and outputting, by the client, the response message through the user device.
