Canadian Patent Application Invention Title:
UN D FR-FOLD KN ________ F __ F4-PAD POCK FT
Inventor: Michelle Danic Mobile: +1 778 793 4594 Email: mdanic@hotmail.com Page #1 Invention Title & Contact Page #2 Invention Description Page #3 Invention Outline Page #4 Invention Claim Page #5 Invention Description Drawings Page #6 Invention Drawings Page #7 Website Referencing Invention Description MICHELLE DANIC: UNDER-FOLD KNEE-PAD POCKET: 2020100556 1 Date Recue/Date Received 2021-07-17 Invention Description The Under-fold Knee-Pad Pocket, is a design created to hold a knee pad/recovery device over a person's knees, to protect the knee from their surrounding environment from possible impact and to aid in recovery. The Knee-Pad Pocket is stitched over each area of the knee on leggings or pants. It is formed as a pocket design to hold the protective pad securely, using an Under-Fold design on the top seam of the pocket. This is to ensure that the Knee-Pad does not move around or out of the pocket and stays stationary over the hard surface of the knee (Patella).
Objects such as a padded-pillow of different densities can be used, as well as hard shelled pads and ice/heat packs for muscles recovery from; injury/arthritis/tendonitis/surgical and immobility. The audience is aimed at people who do knee-impact sports such as; Yoga, Dancing, Rock Climbing, Figure Skating, Running, Gym, Snowboarding, Skiing, Caving, Hiking and Soccer Sports, as well as people needing ice/heat packs for recovery. People who engage in every-day activities that consist of knee to floor contact such as; Primary and Kindergarten teachers, gardeners, childcare workers and animal attendants or parents with babies/toddlers, due to constant kneeling, on floor impact.
Project Description = Pocket Under-Fold to attain a knee-pad for protection.
= Pocket used to hold supportive protective equipment securely, using Under-Fold Design.
= Pocket over knees to hold protective equipment.
Issues: = Placement of Pocket on length of pants.
= Height changes in individuals, to place pocket correctly.
Insertion Items Items = Knee-Pad/Padded-Pillow = Shelled Knee/Pillow Pads = Ice Packs/Heat Packs Audience =Dancers/Yoga Student = Teachers = Rock Climbers/Figure Skaters = Snowboarders/Skiers = Knee Injury Clients for Ice/heat Packs = Muscle/bone recovery aid J.-A Pocket stitched over each side of where a person's knees would be on leggings or pants, to then have a knee-pad, shelled-padding, ice or heat pack inserted and held in by the under-fold on the pockets seam (at the top of the knee). The knee-pad is then secured in the pocket from the under-fold. The knee-pad under-fold is so that it can be added to any material that the pants are made from and there are no zippers, Velcro, buttons or extra unnecessary accessories added. This design is to protect the knee from impact, bruising and to help aid in recovery or pain, with the use of ice/heat packs.
MICHELLE DANIC: UNDER-FOLD KNEE-PAD POCKET: 2020100556 2 Date Recue/Date Received 2021-07-17 Invention background overview:
Knee pads are designed to protect the skin and bone cartilage compressed on impact to a surface that it comes into contact with. A knee pad is structured to decrease level of impact, contact and pressure, from kneeling on to or when experiencing regular contact to a surface. This also reduces bruising in the skin and muscles above and around the knee cap (Patella). The patella is the thickest cartilage in the body, constant impact to the patella can cause damage to the cartilage and cause long term medical effects of tissue breakdown from the tendons and tissue, enduring strain in many sports such as; running, jumping, hiking, dancing, yoga, squatting, lunging and direct impact everyday activities as in; kneeling, gardening, cleaning, parenting, teaching and cycling.
Knee cap pain is a common problem in all ages, depending on each person's growth, physical activity level, genetics, medical symptoms, regular contact through work life, daily activities and their aging process of muscle, tissue and cartilage breakdown.
Knee fractures are dealt with by compression over the patella, as well as ice packs over the affected area to help reduce swelling and inflammation, to aid in recovery time and process. The knee plays a critical role in the bending of the joints for the leg. If the area is affected, it can cause difficulty in daily activities such as; walking, running, standing or engaging in athletic activity.
For knee injuries, the recommendation to aid in recovery is to apply a cold pack or a bag of frozen peas to the affected area for 15 to 20 minutes three to four times a day, to help reduce swelling and numb the pain. After this transition and decreased swelling has occurred, a heat pack may be used 15 to 20 minutes three to four times a day, to aid in blood flow and circulation for repair of damaged cartilage, tissue and muscle.
Keeping up with regular cold and heat pack application is a great help in knee recovery, swelling reduction and pain relief symptoms. People on the go do not often have the time to rest for the application of these recovery techniques, so implementing a design for a daily wear and insertion of a protective layer and for ice or heat packs, can become a regular and easy was to implement this method of recovery and avoidance in contact, to overcome pain and contact that causes pain.

Claims
Invention Claim:
Under-Fold Knee-Pad Pocket ¨ "Under-Fold Pocket" Claim, over the Knee to insert a Pad or Ice/Heat pack.
This design is used to securely hold a knee pad, pillow, ice or heat pack that is inserted and secured by an under-fold, on the top seam (further up from the knee cap). The pocket is situated over the knee surface area, with the length about 4-5 cm below and above the knee cap (Patella) position. The seam below the knee cap is stitched to the top legging fabric, whilst the top seam is an open fold, which is the under-fold that secures the inserted protective equipment or recovery item. The width of the pocket is stitched in with the sides of each inner and outer seam of the leggings/pants. The sides are attached at the seams to create a firm and connected position to the leggings, for the support of the knee-cap and the holding ability for the protective equipment and pain relief items, to be in contact to the first layer of the leggings ¨ the second layer being the pocket stitched over that, on the left, right and bottom edges of the pocket.
A knee-pad or cushion may decrease skin bruising, muscles and cartilage damage form the impact created.
This padded-pillow pocket can be attached onto leggings or pants for active wear and thermals for winter sports.
The position of the ice and heat pack, helps to aid in recovery in constant impact through sports or general labor work, such as; gardening, parenting babies or children, child care workers and people who are on their knees constantly when interacting on the ground.
People dealing with knee pain from surgery or medical knee pain problems, need regular application of cold or heat packs to aid in recovery. This knee-pad pocket will help hold the ice or heat pack in place, so that the person may attend their daily activities of work and lifestyle, without having to find time to sit with and hold a cold or heat pack resting on their knees. This saves them time and increases mobility for everyday life needs and for higher circulation in the muscles for recovery.
It also helps with the elderly, for them to simply insert the ice or heat pack into the pillow pocket, so they are free to rest and move around, whilst the pain relief is in place, as bending the knee in different ways may help relieve their pain symptoms and having it secured will help their free movement, without the ice or heat pack rolling off or having to manually hold it in place.
