Abstract

The motor(s) and batteries are enclosed in a larger turret housing (1) or a larger turret (2). The motorized turrets are adjusted by a control panel (3) that is attached to the scope by the wires and can be mounted on the rifle close to the users hands which will allow much faster elevation and/or windage adjustments. This would be especially advantageous in some timed competitions that have several targets at different distances since the elevation and/or windage would be preset to those distances via the control panel (3) and the user does not have to break position to manually adjust the turret(s) for the different target distances. As the user gets ready to engage the next target they select the next preset on the control panel and as the motor(s) adjust the turret(s) the user can find the next target through the scope and make other manual adjustments to focus or magnification as the motors are working. When the motor(s) are done adjusting a small light can illuminate on the scope or in the viewfinder to inform the user that it is ready instead of the user determining the turrets have stopped turning. The turrets can also be adjusted manually by hand if needed (low battery situation) To use electric adjuster the turret friction level may need to be reduced prior to motors engaging. This can be done electronically or manually by a small lever which engages a clutch

Description

Background of the Invention:
Firearm scopes have always had elevation and windage turrets that are turned by hand. This requires the shooter to break their position to make the adjustment and look at the turrets to confirm the settings. Making these adjustments takes time and additional time is required for the shooter to look back through the scope and regain the sight picture. With the advent of timed competitions it would be of great benefit to have powered turrets to minimize the time lost making elevation and/or windage adjustments.

Claims (3)

Claims:
1). Different scope models could have both motorized elevation and windage turrets and other models could just have elevation or windage to be simpler and to reduce cost.
2). In the case of a digital reticle showing the required point of aim the control panel can be used to show the various presets with the added advantage of not having to wait for the turrets to turn. This version would not have the motors.
3) if the housing for the motor needs to be so large as to take up all the space on the tube for scope rings then special scope rings would be used to accommodate the larger motor housing.
