[Technical Field]
The present invention relates to a method for providing an application service, more particularly to a method for providing an application service for use on a broadcast receiving apparatus and to a broadcast receiving apparatus for providing the application service.
[Background Art]
Whereas in the past the TV set was for providing unidirectional services only, active research in recent times on digital broadcast standards has made it possible to compress broadcast signals, which may include video, audio, and data, into digital signals, thereby allowing multiple channels. Increases in network processing capacity have also led to the advent of bidirectional broadcast services.
Based on such improvements in the performance of the set-top box or TV set as well as increases in network bandwidth, various types of services are being provided, including not only live programs, which have been provided in the past, but also various on-demand programs requested by the user. Of course, the various services currently being provided also include games, shopping, etc., in addition to real-time or on-demand programming. Various applications are needed to providing the various services mentioned above.
Korean Patent Publication No. 10-2009-0043880 discloses a system and method for providing a broadcast application service that allow a user to individually run an application related to a broadcast program on a personal mobile terminal while many people are watching the broadcast program.
However, Korean Patent Publication No. 10-2009-0043880 does not disclose a method of servicing applications that are customized to the user's properties.
Thus, research is needed on a method of providing application services based on user properties.

Figure 13 is a flow diagram illustrating a method of installing an application with mapping to the user account in a method for providing an application service according to __ an embodiment of the present invention.
=
When a user input for installing an application is received through the user input unit 120, the application manager unit 130 can determine if the installing can be additionally mapped to user accounts other than the application currently logged in (S1310, S1320).
As a result of the determining, if an additional installing to another user account is not possible, then the application manager unit 130 can install the corresponding application with mapping only to the user account currently logged in (S1330).
As a result of the determining, if an additional installing to another user account is possible, then the application manager unit 130 can install the corresponding application with mapping to a user account other than the user account currently logged in (S1340).
According to an embodiment of the present invention, the application recommendation unit 140 can recommend an application for running, from among the applications that have already been installed, by considering a function that is currently being performed.
Figure 14 illustrates an example of a screen recommending an application according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Figure 14 shows a screen when a user input related to viewing a previously viewed channel is received. The left of the screen shows a recently viewed channel list, and at the right of the recently viewed channel list, there can be shown a list 1410 of currently installed applications and a list 1420 of applications that can be installed. Also, the list 1420 of applications that can be installed may show items regarding applications available for installation related to the function currently being performed (see previously viewed channels).
Figure 15 illustrates a screen on which the application recommended in Figure is running.
Figure 15 shows a screen on which the application "My LOG" illustrated on the screen of Figure 14 is running. The screen can show a record 1510 of contents that the user has viewed, the currently logged-in user account 1520, and a popular program list 1530 corresponding to the date. The popular program list 1530 can also pick programs that the user has not viewed.
Figure 16 illustrates an example of a screen recommending a relevant second application while a first application is running, for a method for providing an application service according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Figure 16 shows a screen on which a channel guide application is running. The screen can show a list 1610 of applications that can be installed that are related to the application being run (channel guide application).
Figure 17 illustrates a screen on which an application function has been added, in a method for providing an application service according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Figure 17 shows a screen on which the application "Time Shift" from among the application list 1610 illustrated in Figure 16 has been selected and installed. As illustrated, an icon 1710 representing a selected application function can be shown in the application that is currently running. That is, according to an embodiment of the present invention, if an application item is selected and installed from the application list 1610, the application manager unit 130 can add the function of the selected application (Time Shift application) to the application that is currently running (channel guide application). In the present specification, the Time Shift application refers to an application that can move the play position of a content that is being broadcasted.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, an application service can be performed based on information on the access authority control in accordance with the user account and on information regarding whether or not to activate in accordance with the user account.
For instance, the user can use applications based on the authority level mapped to the user account.
Figure 18 is a flow diagram illustrating a method of using an application based on the authority level mapped to the user account in a method for providing an application service according to an embodiment of the present invention.
The application manager unit 130 can determine whether or not it is possible to change the user account for the application that is to be run (S1810). If it is not possible to change the user for the application that is to be run, then the application can be run immediately (S1860). Whether or not it is possible to change the user account can be determined based on the authority mapped to the currently logged-in user account. For example, a user change can be permitted in cases where the currently logged-in user account is a master account.
In the present specification, a master account can control the authority levels of all user accounts registered at the broadcast receiving apparatus 100.
Therefore, logging in to a master account can require a separate authentication procedure.
If a user change is possible for an application that is to be run, then the user account can be changed by the user's selection (S1820).
The application manager unit 130 can determined if the application that is to be run is installed mapped to the user account to which the account will be changed (S1830).
If the application is installed mapped to the user account to which the account will be changed, then the application manager unit 130 can determine whether or not authentication is required when running the corresponding application (S1840).
The determining of whether or not authentication is required can be determined based on the currently logged-in user account or on the authority level mapped to the user account to which the account will be changed. For example, if the currently logged-in user account is a master account, then a separate authentication procedure may not be required for running the application.
However, if a separate authentication procedure is required for running an application, the application can be run only when the authentication procedure is performed and is successful (S1850, S1860).
If the application is not installed mapped to the user account to which the account will be changed, then the application manager unit 130 can provide control such that a certain screen or popup window (not shown) is outputted which queries the user on whether or not to additionally install the corresponding application (S1870).
Figure 19 is a flow diagram illustrating a method of removing an application based on the authority level mapped to the user account in a method for providing an application service according to an embodiment of the present invention.
If a user input for removing a particular installed application is received through the user input unit 120, then the application manager unit 130 can determine if the corresponding application is also mapped to another user account (S1910, S1920).
As a result of the determining, if the application is also mapped to another user account, then the application manager unit 130 can output a notification message saying that the application cannot be removed, and can deactivate the corresponding application (S1930).
As a result of the determining, if the application is not mapped to another user account, then the application manager unit 130 can perform the removing of the corresponding application (S1940).
According to an embodiment of the present invention, actions that disallow use of an application service such as by removing or deactivating an application, etc., can be permitted only after logging in to a master account.
As described above, according to an embodiment of the present invention, an application service can be provided based on the user's profile properties (e.g. user account). Thus, a customized service can be provided.
Also, according to an embodiment of the present invention, the user can proactively configure applications other than the applications provided by default, according to the user account.
The method for providing an application service described above can be implemented in the form of program instructions that may be performed using various computer means and can be recorded in a computer-readable medium. Such a computer-readable medium can include program instructions, data files, data structures, etc., alone or in combination. The program instructions recorded on the medium can be designed and configured specifically for the present invention or can be a type of medium known to and used by the skilled person in the field of computer software.
Examples of a computer-readable medium may include magnetic media such as hard disks, floppy disks, magnetic tapes, etc., optical media such as CD-ROM's, DVD's, etc., magneto-optical media such as floptical disks, etc., and hardware devices such as ROM, RAM, flash memory, etc.
Examples of a computer-readable medium can also include a transmitting medium such as light, metal lines, waveguides, etc., that transmits signals for specifying program instructions, data structures, etc.
Examples of the program of instructions may include not only machine language codes produced by a compiler but also high-level language codes that can be executed by a computer through the use of an interpreter, etc. The hardware mentioned above can be made to operate as one or more software modules that perform the actions of the embodiments of the invention, and vice versa.
The method for providing an application service and the broadcast receiving apparatus described above are not to be limited to the embodiments disclosed herein. The features of the embodiments can be selectively combined to allow for numerous variations.
The transmitting unit 150 can transmit various information or signals to the outside. For example, the transmitting unit 150 can transmit a signal for requesting a particular application to the application provider server 300.
The receiving unit 160 can receive various contents, information, and applications. For example, the receiving unit 160 can receive broadcast contents from the broadcast station server 200 and can receive applications from the application provider server 300.
The output unit 170 can output the application display screen, content play screen, etc. In the present specification, the outputting of a screen can include not only outputting a screen through a built-in display but also outputting a screen through the display of another device.
The control unit 180 can control the overall operations of the database 110, user input unit 120, application manager unit 130, application recommendation unit 140, transmitting unit 150, receiving unit 160, and output unit 170.
