Abstract
The Idrobik is a cross between an outboard engine and a hydrofoil. It is built to be driven above water like a superbike propelled by water turbine. The vehicle floats in the water at rest but when it start to move, horizontal rudders helps it lift above water and maintain its position. It can steer with flaps, a directional water nozzle and rudder.
Description
DESCRIPTION
Patent title: Idrobik The Idrobik term is short for Hydrofoil and Superbike. The vehicle's side view is similar to that of a floating outboard engine with a long keel that goes under the water. This outboard engine is equipped with a seat, a fuel tank and controls to operate the vehicle. The vehicle can float by itself. Like on a regular outboard engine, a keels goes down under water to drive the propulsion unit.
The propulsion unit can be a propeller or preferably a water turbine located at the base of the vehicle away from the top portion. This distance is necessary to permit the vehicle from lifting over the water like an hydrofoil.
On each side of the keel or the propulsion unit, there are horizontal rudders (wings) that serves the purpose of keeping the vehicle balanced when it's moving at various speeds. These small wings can be moved mechanically or with a motor and they can create enough lift to raise the top portion of the vehicle out of the water in order to reduce drag on its hull similarly to an Hydrofoil.
If the Idrobik is equipped with a water turbine, a water nozzle can be used to steer the vehicle in a give direction like water nozzles found on personal watercrafts.
A small water rudder can also be used at the base of the vehicle to help it steer in a give direction, this rudder would be located before, under or behind the propeller or water turbine.
The horizontal rudders or wings can be equipped with flaps similar to that of an airplane. These flaps can be used to help steer the vehicle and make it lean from left to right.
These flaps could also be used on standard outboard engines to add some manoeuvrability to a boat.
