Abstract
A hair styling iron comprises a rod section, a handle section, and a clamp section having a lever. The clamp section is pivotally connected to the rod section to allow movement therebetween from an open position to a closed position by manipulating the lever, the clamp section further having a surface portion reciprocal to a surface portion of the rod section. The reciprocal surface portion of the clamp section is adapted to engage with the surface portion of the rod section when the clamp section is in the closed position with respect to the rod section, and the surface portions of the rod section and the clamp section are adapted to receive therebetween a section of hair against the surface portions, whereby a styling effect is imparted to said hair. The clamp section further comprising vents along an edge of the surface portion of the clamp section. The rod section comprises at least one trough along an axis thereof.
Description
WET/DRY CURLING IRON
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[001] The present invention relates to curling or styling irons that can be used on both wet or dry hair.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[001] The present invention relates to curling or styling irons that can be used on both wet or dry hair.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[002] Curling or styling irons are, in general, not new. Most curling or styling irons comprise a tubular barrel or rod extending from a handle. Hair is typically wound around the rod. Fixed within the rod is a heating element.
A hair-holding clamp extends along most of the length of the rod and is pressed against the rod by a spring mechanism. Generally, the clamp may be pivoted away from the rod by a lever on the handle.

[003] The present invention provides an improved curling or styling iron for use on either wet or dry hair. The improved curling or styling iron includes steam vents on a clamp section and steam troughs on a rod section of the curling iron to emit steam from wet hair.
[004] One advantage is that, by allowing steam to emit from wet hair, styling of hair is achieved at a faster rate. Another advantage is that hair is dried at a faster rate.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[013] Reference will now be made in detail to embodiments of the invention that are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. Wherever possible, same or similar reference numerals are used in the drawings and the description to refer to the same or like parts or steps. The drawings are in simplified form and are not to precise scale. For purposes of convenience and clarity only, directional terms, such as top, bottom, up, down, over, above, below, left, and right may be used with respect to the drawings.
These and similar directional terms should not be construed to limit the scope of the invention in any manner. The words "connect," "couple," and similar terms with their inflectional morphemes do not necessarily denote direct and immediate connections, but also include connections through mediate elements or devices.

The words "connect," "couple," and similar terms with their inflectional morphemes do not necessarily denote direct and immediate connections, but also include connections through mediate elements or devices.
[014] Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1A in particular, curling or styling iron 10 comprises rod section 30, clamp 50, handle section 80 and lever 20.
As known in the art, rod section 30 typically houses the heating element (not shown) and can be made of either Teflon, ceramic, tourmaline, metal, or titanium. The rod's shape can either be a cylinder, cone, or reverse cone, and the iron can have brush attachments or double and triple barrels. As is also known in the art, power is supplied typically by a power cord such as cord 40. Curling or styling iron 10 also includes a spring-loaded lever 20 which pivots clamp 50 away from rod 30 for insertion of hair. Power is supplied via power cord 40, as known in the art.

[015] As shown more clearly in Fig. 3A, clamp 50 comprises vents 90.
Likewise, rod 30 comprises troughs 100. As shown in Fig. 3B, when wet hair 60 is held between clamp 50 and heated rod 30 and steam is created thereby, vents 90 and troughs 100 allow steam to escape as via 70.

[016] It should be appreciated that modifications and alterations obvious to those skilled in the art are not to be considered as beyond the scope of the present invention. For example, the specific switching and biasing arrangements depicted in the drawings may be substituted with equivalent devices. Accordingly, the present invention is intended to embrace all such alternatives, modifications and variances.
