Abstract
The foam footing support block is intended for use in the construction of above ground patio decks and act as a structural construction footing. The foam footing support block is made of extruded polystyrene in composition, which allows for ease of maneuverability and facilitates an easy method of leveling a standard patio deck, by use of a simple cutting tool such as a handsaw for level or sloped terrain. The support block includes a recess to receive a nominal 2 x 4 piece of lumber, plastic or metal or a standard joist member, which can be inserted loosely or be fastened to the recess by use of an adhesive compound for value added strength.
Description
DESCRIPTION
The foam footing support block is intended for use in the construction of above ground patio decks and act as a structural construction footing. The foam footing support block is made of extruded polystyrene in composition, which allows for ease of maneuverability and facilitates an easy method of leveling a standard patio deck, by use of a simple cutting tool such as a handsaw for level or sloped terrain. The support block includes a recess to receive a nominal 2 x 4 piece of lumber, plastic or metal or a standard joist member, which can be inserted loosely or be fastened to the recess by use of an adhesive compound for value added strength.
The 2 x 4 or joist material can be used as a straight edge for leveling purposes by determining the amount of extruded polystyrene or terrain to be removed.
The 2 x 4 inserted piece of lumber, plastic or metal can also accept another horizontal piece of lumber, plastic or metal on top of it for value added strength and act as a construction beam. The support blocks can then be positioned anywhere along the beam rather than under a load bearing joist member. The beam can also accept posts or a wall frame for constructing higher elevated decks.
SPECIFICATION
The support block can be square, round or trapezoid in shape and form of different dimensions and can be made of existing or future extruded polystyrene.
The support block includes a recess to receive a nominal 2 x 4 piece of lumber, plastic or metal, a standard joist member or a beam which can be inserted loosely or be fastened to the recess by use of an adhesive compound for value added strength.
The beam can consist of pre-formed one piece or can be made of 2 pieces of lumber, plastic or metal. The upper horizontal member can be of a wider dimension. The upper member rests on the upper surface of the vertical 2" x 4"
member as well as the flat surface of the foam footing support block in the shape of a T.

Claims (3)
1. The inventor claims the novelty of an improvement of an existing article of manufacturing and construction technique of pre-manufactured concrete products or pouring technique of formed concrete. The foam footing support block offers ease of maneuverability and is easily leveled by use of a simple cutting tool such as a handsaw for level or sloped terrain.
2. The inventor claims the novelty that the foam footing support block can be positioned anywhere along the beam rather than directly under a load bearing deck joist.
3. The inventor claims the novelty of the foam footing support block has been designed to receive a construction beam to allow framing for a higher elevated deck and give value added strength to the foam footing support block.
