Abstract

The invention relates to a cleaning body comprising at least two part cleaning bodies (1, 2), each with a cleaning surface (3, 4), whereby the part cleaning bodies (1, 2) are made from differing materials, lie adjacent to each other and are connected to each other. The first part cleaning body (1) has greater flexibility than the second (2) with each in the dry state. A squeeze mop comprises said cleaning bodies and a support body (17), connected to the cleaning body, whereby the support body (17) has two wings (18, 19), connected to each other such as to fold together by means of a hinged joint (20). The joint (20) is exclusively arranged in the region of the surface (13) of the first part cleaning body (1).

CLEANING BODY AND SQUEEZE MOP
COMPRISING SAID CLEANING BODY
Technical Field The invention relates to a cleaning body as well as a winged mop which includes the cleaning body as a component.

Background Art Cleaning bodies and winged mops with cleaning bodies are generally known.
The cleaning bodies are thereby constructed as sponges and consist, for example, completely of cellulose or completely of polyurethane. It is however a disadvantage of constructing the sponge of one material, especially when the cleaning body is used in connection with winged mops, that cleaning bodies of cellulose in the dry condition can be bent only with difficulty or not at all without damage and that sponges made of polyurethane only have a comparatively low cleaning capacity and therefore cannot take up contamination very well.
A cleaning body is known from US2003/0121116A1, which consists of different partial cleaning bodies, whereby these partial cleaning bodies have a mutually different pliability.

Description of the Invention It is an object of the invention to further develop a cleaning body and a winged mop with a cleaning body in such a way that the cleaning body can be well adapted to the respective parameters of the application and that the winged mop handles well.
Especially, the cleaning body should have a good cleaning capacity and should take up the contamination especially well and have good use properties over a long period of use.
Furthermore, the winged mop should be easy to handle when the cleaning body is dry or largely dry without damage to or destruction of the cleaning body.
This object is achieved in accordance with the invention by a cleaning body and a winged mop as described herein.
For the achievement of this object, a cleaning body for a mop is provided which includes at least two partial cleaning bodies with a respective cleaning surface, whereby the partial cleaning bodies are made of mutually different materials and are positioned side by side and connected with one another, whereby the first partial cleaning body has a higher pliability than the second, respectively in the dry condition and whereby the first partial cleaning body on the surface directed away from the cleaning surface has blind hole type recesses which extend in direction of the cleaning surface and which respectively have a shape complementary to knobs of a support body of a winged mop. In that the sponge-like cleaning body is operationally individualized, the sponge-like partial cleaning bodies are constructed in such a way that they are respectively well suited for the achievement of the subtasks at hand. The cleaning body is especially flexible in the region of the first partial cleaning body so that it can also be easily used in connection with a winged mop and the winged mop can be operated without problem even in the dry condition of the cleaning body, without damage or destruction of the cleaning body.
The material of the second partial cleaning body can be adapted for an especially good cleaning performance without having to consider whether or not it is pliable in the dry condition.
An excellent function of the folding mechanism of a winged mop is ensured in the dry condition by the first cleaning body, when the cleaning body is dry or only lightly damp.
The first partial cleaning body on the surface directed away from the cleaning surface has blind hole type recesses which extend in direction of the cleaning surface and which respectively have a shape complementary to knobs of a support body of a winged mop. It is hereby advantageous that the cleaning performance of the zone of the first partial cleaning body in which the recesses are found can be improved. For example, when strong contaminations are to be removed from floors, the pressure onto the winged mop is increased, whereby the comparatively thin material thickness of the first partial cleaning body between the knobs of the supporting body and the surface to be cleaned only provides little resistance to the pressure exerted by the user. A
comparatively high force can be exerted onto the surface to be cleaned through the thin material thickness of the first cleaning body in the described region with comparatively little force input; if the first partial cleaning body would not include the recesses in which the knobs are positioned, the specific surface pressure onto the surface to be cleaned in the region of the knobs would be comparatively smaller. The depth of the recesses preferably corresponds to at least 50%
of the height of the first partial cleaning body, more preferably 75 to 90%.
The first partial cleaning body preferably consists of polyurethane (PU). It is thereby advantageous that the first partial cleaning body of polyurethane, independent of whether it is dry or wet is always well pliable/foldable and therefore does not hinder even in the dry or substantially dry condition the function of a winged mop to which the cleaning body is preferably fastened for removal without damage. The durability of such a partial cleaning body is good, since polyurethane has a comparatively high resistance against mechanical loads, even when an elevated contact pressure is exerted by the user onto the first partial cleaning body.
According to a first preferred embodiment, the second partial cleaning body preferably consists of cellulose. It is thereby advantageous that the second partial cleaning body has good usage properties with respect to its cleaning performance, since cellulose picks up contamination especially well. Although partial cleaning bodies of cellulose have only a very limited pliability in the dry condition, this does not negatively affect a cleaning body in accordance with the invention and its use in a winged mop, since the significantly more pliable first partial cleaning body is provided for the pliability.
According to a second preferred embodiment, the second partial cleaning body is made of a polyvinyl alcohol. In contrast to a second partial cleaning body made of cellulose, the second partial cleaning body consisting of PVA has the advantage that the pore size of the sponge-like second partial cleaning body can be very well adapted to the respective parameters of the application. The water absorption of PVA is furthermore somewhat higher than the water absorption of cellulose.
The partial cleaning bodies are respectively made in one piece and of a uniform material. Such a construction is especially important in particular for the first partial cleaning body, since it is thereby ensured that each part of a first partial cleaning body has the same advantageous pliability; the disadvantages with respect to the pliability which would, for example, result from a material mix in the first partial cleaning body for example by constructing it in layers from the surface to be cleaned towards the support body of the winged mop, are thereby avoided.
The partial cleaning bodies can respectively be essentially in the shape of a rectangular prism and connected on their mutually opposing face sides. The cleaning body as a whole is thereby divided into functional zones, whereby each functional zone corresponds to one partial cleaning body.
According to an especially advantageous embodiment, it can be provided that a third partial cleaning body is positioned on the face side of the first partial cleaning body directed away from the second partial cleaning body and is connected with the first partial cleaning body. It is further preferred that the second and third partial cleaning bodies correspond with respect to shape and/or material with one another. The handling is thereby facilitated because of the symmetry of the cleaning body with respect to the first partial cleaning body. It can be provided for different applications that the second and third partial cleaning bodies correspond in shape but are different from one another with respect to their material. The second partial cleaning body, for example, could have more abrasive cleaning activity than the third, whereby the third partial cleaning body, for example, can have a higher pliability than the second partial cleaning body. The cleaning body is thereby adapted to the respective parameters of the application. It is however also possible, for example, to make the second and third partial cleaning bodies of the same material, whereby their shape is different. For example, the second partial cleaning body can be rounded on the face side directed away from the first partial cleaning body, the third partial cleaning body can however be constructed with corners on the face side directed away from the partial cleaning body.
All partial cleaning bodies preferably have a corresponding height between the cleaning surfaces and the surface of the partial cleaning bodies directed away from the cleaning surface. The cleaning body is thereby easily manufactured and easily mounted on a winged mop.
The cleaning surfaces of the partial cleaning bodies as well as the surfaces of the partial cleaning bodies preferably merge at the same level with one another.
Neither the cleaning surfaces of the partial cleaning bodies nor the surfaces of the partial cleaning bodies have sudden changes in direction.
At least the first partial cleaning body can be constructed as an open porous cleaning sponge and consists preferably, because of the good pliability of the material, also of PU. The second and/or third partial cleaning bodies can also be constructed as open porous sponges. They preferably consist of cellulose, because of the good cleaning performance.
Only the cleaning surface of the first partial cleaning body can have a micro-fiber wiping facing on the side directed away from the respective surface. The wiping facing is 5 advantageous, since especially when the first partial cleaning body consists of PU, it has a comparatively lower cleaning performance, compared to cellulose. In order to combine the excellent pliability of the PU material of the first cleaning body on the one hand with a good cleaning performance on the other hand, the micro-fiber wiping facing is advantageous. The micro-fiber wiping facing has the form of a cloth and has a negligibly small thickness, relative to the thickness of the first partial cleaning body, so that the pliability of the first partial cleaning body is not affected by the use of the micro-fiber wiping facing.
The wiping facing can also consists, for example, of a material different from micro-fibers. If the use of a more abrasive material is required, a wiping facing can be used which consists partly of micro-fibers and partly of rayon.
The invention further relates to a winged mop including a cleaning body as described which is connected with a support body, whereby the support body includes two wings which are hingedly connected by a hinged joint, whereby the joint is positioned exclusively in the region of the surface of the first partial cleaning body. A
winged mop with such cleaning body has the advantage that the folding mechanism of the winged mop functions well even when the cleaning body is dry or only slightly damp. This is achieved in that the first partial cleaning body of the winged mop has a good pliability which is mostly correspondingly good independent of whether the first partial cleaning body is dry, damp or wet.
The support body can preferably have recesses only on the side directed towards the surface of the first partial cleaning body for improvement of the cleaning performance of the first partial cleaning body. Especially when the first partial cleaning body is made of PU, which compared to cellulose would only have a comparatively small cleaning performance, the improved cleaning performance, due to the knobs on the support body, is of significant advantage. The cleaning surface of the first partial cleaning body then has a cleaning performance which is at least significantly improved and, for example, corresponds to the cleaning performance of the second and/or third partial cleaning body.
The whole cleaning body thereby has a correspondingly good cleaning performance and, even in the dry condition, a good pliability in the region of the first partial cleaning body.
Especially in such an embodiment, the material PU is especially advantageous for the first partial cleaning body, since PU has a significantly higher tear strength than cellulose, which thereby results in an improved durability for the cleaning body even under high mechanical load by the knobs.

Brief Description of the Drawings The cleaning body in accordance with the invention and the winged mop in accordance with the invention with the cleaning body are described in more detail in the following by reference to Figures 1 to S.
Fig. 1 shows a side view of a first exemplary embodiment of the cleaning body in accordance with the invention, Fig. 2 shows a top view of the first exemplary embodiment of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a front view of a second exemplary embodiment, Fig. 4 shows the top view of the second exemplary embodiment of Fig. 3, Fig. 5 shows a top view of a third exemplary embodiment similar to the exemplary embodiments of Figs. I to 4 with a micro-fiber wiping facing, Fig. 6 shows the top view onto a winged mop which includes a cleaning body as described above, Fig. 7 shows the winged mop of Fig. 6 in a side view with locked wings and Fig. 8 shows the winged mop of Fig. 7 in the folded condition, Fig. 9 shows a further exemplary embodiment of the cleaning body in accordance with the invention which includes recesses for the reception of knobs of the support body of a winged mop, Fig. 10 shows a further exemplary embodiment similar to the exemplary embodiment of Fig. 9, whereby in addition, as in Fig. 5, a micro-fiber wiping facing is provided on the side of the first partial cleaning body directed towards the surface to be cleaned.
The Figures 1 to 10 are schematic illustrations.
Embodiment of the Invention Figures 1 to 5 as well as 9 and 10 show five exemplary embodiments of a cleaning body in accordance with the invention, whereby the cleaning bodies shown in Figures 1 to 5, 9 and 10, form a component of a winged mop in accordance with the invention in Figures 6 to 8.
The cleaning bodies thereby respectively include three partial cleaning bodies 1, 2, 8, whereby the first partial cleaning body in the illustrated exemplary embodiment consists of PU, the second and third partial cleaning bodies respectively of cellulose.
Materials different therefrom for a wet cleaning of surfaces, for example floors, are also possible, whereby the first partial cleaning body always has the highest pliability among all partial cleaning bodies used and even in the dry condition of the partial cleaning body is well pliable.
The three partial cleaning bodies 1, 2, 8 respectively have a cleaning surface 3, 4, 12 and are positioned side by side and connected with one another. Each partial cleaning body 1, 2, 8 considered on its own is respectively made in one piece and of a uniform material, whereby the partial cleaning bodies 1, 2, 8 as illustrated here are essentially shaped as a rectangular prism and are connected to one another on their mutually opposing face sides 5, 6, 7.
Each of the partial cleaning bodies 1, 2, 8 is formed as a foam body, whereby the partial cleaning bodies because of their mutually different materials have mutually different cleaning performance, water absorption/release and/or durability.
The advantage of the mutually different materials of the partial cleaning bodies 1, 2, 8 resides mainly in that an optimal adaptation to the respective parameters of the application is possible.
For example, the first partial cleaning body I with the comparatively highest pliability in the dry condition is positioned at a location of the cleaning body which is exposed to mechanical bending loads. This guarantees a long durability of the partial cleaning body with consistently good use properties. In contrast, the second and third partial cleaning bodies 2, 8 can be optimized with respect to their cleaning performance without having to give special consideration to the bending behavior of these partial cleaning bodies 2, 8.
The cleaning body as a whole has, as illustrated in Figures 1, 3, 5, 7 and 8 as well as 9 and 10 a consistent height 9, 10, 11 between the cleaning surfaces 3, 4, 12 and the surfaces 13, 14, 15 of the partial cleaning bodies 1, 2, 8 which are directed away from the cleaning surfaces 3, 4, 12. In the illustrated exemplary embodiments, the cleaning surfaces 3, 4, 12 of the partial cleaning bodies 1, 2, 8 as well as the surfaces 13, 14, 15 of the partial cleaning bodies 1, 2, 8 are constructed to merge into one another.
Divergently, it is also possible to provide the cleaning surfaces 3, 4, 12 of the partial cleaning bodies 1, 2, 8 of the here illustrated exemplary embodiments with a profiling, especially with a wave-shaped surface profiling of increased roughness; only 1, 2 or possibly all 3 cleaning surfaces 3, 4, 12 can be provided with such a surface profiling.
Furthermore, it is possible to provide the cleaning surfaces 3, 4, 12 of the cleaning body surfaces 1, 2, 8 with a micro-fiber wiping facing 16, whereby according to a preferred embodiment only the cleaning surface 3 of the first partial cleaning body 1 includes a micro-fiber wiping facing 16, as shown in Figures 5 and 10.
A first exemplary embodiment of the cleaning body in accordance with the invention is shown in Figures 1 and 2. All partial cleaning bodies 1, 2, 8 are shaped essentially as a rectangular prism, whereby the first partial cleaning body 1, which in the exemplary embodiment is made of PU, has a higher pliability than the two identically constructed second and third partial cleaning bodies 2, 8 which are respectively made of cellulose. The illustrated cleaning body has an especially simple construction and is easily and cost efficiently manufactured.
A second exemplary embodiment, different from the exemplary embodiment of Figures 1 and 2 is shown in Figures 3 and 4, whereby in the second exemplary embodiment the second partial cleaning body 2 is rounded in the form of a semicircle on its face side 22 directed away from the first partial cleaning body 1. Such a construction is applicable for the easier cleaning of comparatively hard to reach locations of the surface to be cleaned, for example.
The respective exemplary embodiments are shown in a front view in Figures 1 and 3 and in Figures 2 and 4 the exemplary embodiments of Figures 1 and 3 are respectively shown in a top view.
A third exemplary embodiment is shown in Figure 5 in a front view corresponding to Figures 1 and 3. In contrast, only the cleaning surface 3 of the first partial cleaning body I has on the side directed away from the surface 13 a micro-fiber wiping facing 16. It is hereby advantageous that the reduced cleaning performance, compared to cellulose, of the first PU partial cleaning body 1 is balanced out without the first partial cleaning body I
losing its high pliability.
An exemplary embodiment of a winged mop is shown in Figures 6 and 8 which has a cleaning body in accordance with one of the above described exemplary embodiments. The winged mop has a support body 17 which is connected in a commonly known manner with the surfaces 13, 14, 15 of the partial cleaning bodies 1, 2, S. This can be achieved, for example, in that the cleaning body and the support body 17 are connected with another by a non-positive and/or positive connection, whereby the cleaning body is preferably fastened to the support body 17 for removal without damage.
The support body 17 includes two wings 18, 19 which are foldably connected with one another by a hinge-type joint 20. It is important that the joint 20 is located exclusively in the region of the surface 13 of the first partial cleaning body 1, which in the dry condition also has good pliability. In order to compensate for the lower cleaning performance of PU compared to cellulose, the support body 17 has knobs as surface profiling only on the side directed towards the surface 13 of the first partial cleaning body 1, for improvement of the cleaning performance of the first partial cleaning body 1.
Figure 6 shows a top view of the winged mop of Figure 7. The wings 18, 19 are foldable downward about the axis 23.
The foldability of the wings 18, 19 downward about the joint 20 is indicated by the arrows 24 in Figure 7, whereby the joint 20, for example, is of the type of a film hinge and extends in the direction of the axis 23.
The winged mop of Figures 6 and 7 is illustrated in Figure 8, whereby the two wings 18, 19 are folded downward about the joint 20.
Two further exemplary embodiments of a cleaning body are shown in Figures 9 and 10, whereby the first partial cleaning body 1 on its side directed away from the cleaning surface 3 has recesses 25 which are of the closed end type. The recesses 25 extend from the surface 13 in direction of the cleaning surface 3, whereby the recesses 25 have a shape which is complementary to respectively one of the knobs 21 of the support body 17. Because of the comparatively small remaining material thickness of the partial cleaning body between its cleaning surface 3 and the face sides of the knobs directed towards the cleaning surface 3, pressure can be very efficiently applied onto the surface to be cleaned during cleaning.

The construction of the cleaning body in accordance with the invention can be used not only for support bodies which are foldable about an axis transverse to the longitudinal axis of the support body (illustrated here). Support bodies which have a joint that extends parallel to the longitudinal axis or corresponds to the longitudinal axis can be provided 5 with the claimed cleaning body; the two partial cleaning bodies/the three partial cleaning bodies then extend, for example, parallel to the longitudinal axis of the support body.

Claims (16)

1. Cleaning body for a mop, comprising at least two partial cleaning bodies each having a cleaning surface, whereby the partial cleaning bodies consist of different materials and are positioned side by side and connected with one another, whereby the first partial cleaning body has a higher pliability than the second in a dry condition and whereby the first partial cleaning body has closed end recesses on a side remote from the cleaning surface, which extend towards the cleaning surface and each of which has a shape which is complementary to a knob of a support body of said mop.
2. Cleaning body according to claim 1, wherein the depth of the recesses is at least 50% of the height of the first partial cleaning body.
3. Cleaning body according to claim 2, wherein the depth is 75 to 90% of the height of the first partial cleaning body.
4. Cleaning body according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the first partial cleaning body consists of polyurethane (PU).
5. Cleaning body according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the second partial cleaning body consists of cellulose.
6. Cleaning body according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the second partial cleaning body consists of a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA).
7. Cleaning body according to any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the partial cleaning bodies are respectively made in one piece and of a uniform material.
8. Cleaning body according to any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein each partial cleaning body is essentially in the shape of a rectangular prism and the partial cleaning bodies are connected on their mutually opposing face sides.
9. Cleaning body according to any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein on the face side of the first partial cleaning body remote from the second partial cleaning body, a third partial cleaning body is positioned and is connected with the first partial cleaning body.
10. Cleaning body according to claim 9, wherein the second and third partial cleaning bodies are similarly constructed with respect to shape or material.
11. Cleaning body according to any one of claims 1 to 10, wherein all of the partial cleaning bodies have a similar height between their cleaning surfaces and their surfaces remote from their cleaning surfaces.
12. Cleaning body according to any one of claims 1 to 11, wherein the respective cleaning surfaces of the partial cleaning bodies as well as the respective surfaces of the partial cleaning bodies remote from said cleaning surfaces are constructed to merge planar into one another.
13. Cleaning body according to any one of claims 1 to 12, wherein at least the first partial cleaning body is constructed as an open porous cleaning sponge.
14. Cleaning body according to any one of claims 1 to 13, wherein only the cleaning surface of the first partial cleaning body has a micro-fiber wiping facing on the side directed away from the surface.
15. A winged mop, comprising a cleaning body according to any one of claims 1 to 14, which is connected with a support body, whereby the support body has two wings which are foldably connected with one another by a hinge-type joint, whereby the joint is positioned exclusively in the region of the surface of the first cleaning portion.
16. The winged mop according to claim 15, wherein the support body only on the sides directed towards the surface of the first partial cleaning body has knobs for the improvement of the cleaning performance of the first partial cleaning body.
