Abstract
A communications apparatus connected to a network, such as the Internet or a LAN, includes an input system for inputting image data, a transmitter that transmits the image data via e-mail, a receiver that receives a reply related to the transmission, and a communication control memory. The communications control memory stores a transmit result indicating whether the transmitting device has completed the transmission and a delivery result indicating whether a destination side apparatus has received the transmission. Both the results are stored along with their correspondence to each other. A communication method utilizing this communications apparatus is also provided. The apparatus and the method allow users to confirm completion of transmission and delivery to a destination with ease and without fail by storing a notice of completing the transmission as well as information about a return mail into the communication control memory in the apparatus on the transmitter side.
Claims (6)
1. A communications apparatus connected to a destination apparatus via a network, comprising:
an input system that inputs an image file;
a creator that creates an email to which the image file inputted by the input system is attached;
a transmitter that transmits the email created by the creator to the destination apparatus via the network, the destination apparatus transmitting a reply mail to the email when the email is successfully delivered to the destination apparatus;
a receiver that receives a reply mail from the destination apparatus via the network;
a memory that stores a delivery result indicating whether or not the email has been successfully delivered to the destination apparatus;
a timer that is set to a predetermined period of time and starts after the transmitter transmits the email;
a determiner that determines whether or not the receiver receives the reply mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the email has been successfully delivered to the destination apparatus when the receiver receives the reply mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the communication apparatus does not know whether the email has been delivered to the destination apparatus when the receiver does not receive the reply mail before the timer expires; and an output section that outputs a communication report including the delivery result stored in the memory.

a determiner that determines whether or not the receiver receives the reply mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the email has been successfully delivered to the destination apparatus when the receiver receives the reply mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the communication apparatus does not know whether the email has been delivered to the destination apparatus when the receiver does not receive the reply mail before the timer expires; and an output section that outputs a communication report including the delivery result stored in the memory.
2. A communication apparatus connected to a destination apparatus via a network, comprising:
an input system that inputs an image file;
a creator that creates an email to which the image file inputted by the input system is attached;
a transmitter that transmits the email created by the creator to the destination apparatus via the network, the destination apparatus transmitting a reply mail to the email when the email is successfully delivered to the destination apparatus;
a receiver that receives the reply mail from the destination apparatus via the network, and receives an error mail via the network when the email was not delivered to the destination apparatus;
a memory that stores a delivery result indicating whether or not the email has been successfully delivered to the destination apparatus;
a timer that is set to a predetermined period of time and starts after the transmitter transmits the email;
a determiner that determines whether or not the receiver receives the reply mail before the timer expires and determines whether or not the receiver receives the error mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the email was not delivered to the destination apparatus when the receiver receives the error mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the communication apparatus does not know whether the email has been delivered to the destination apparatus when the receiver does not receive the reply mail or the error mail before the timer expires; and an output section that outputs a communication report including the delivery result stored in the memory.

a determiner that determines whether or not the receiver receives the reply mail before the timer expires and determines whether or not the receiver receives the error mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the email was not delivered to the destination apparatus when the receiver receives the error mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the communication apparatus does not know whether the email has been delivered to the destination apparatus when the receiver does not receive the reply mail or the error mail before the timer expires; and an output section that outputs a communication report including the delivery result stored in the memory.
3. A communication apparatus connected to a destination apparatus via a network, comprising;
an input system that inputs an image file;
a creator that creates an email to which the image file inputted by the input system is attached;
a transmitter that transmits the email created by the creator to the destination apparatus via the network, the destination apparatus transmitting a reply mail to the email when the email is successfully delivered to the destination apparatus;
a receiver that receives the reply mail from the destination apparatus via the network;
a memory that stores a delivery result indicating whether or not the email has been successfully delivered to the destination apparatus;
a timer that is set to a predetermined period of time and starts after the transmitter transmits the email;
a determiner that determines whether or not the receiver receives the reply mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the email has been successfully delivered to the destination apparatus when the receiver receives the reply mail before the tinier expires, the delivery result indicating that the communication apparatus is waiting for the reply mail when the timer has not expired and the receiver has not received the reply mail; and an output section that outputs a communication report including the delivery result stored in the memory.

a transmitter that transmits the email created by the creator to the destination apparatus via the network, the destination apparatus transmitting a reply mail to the email when the email is successfully delivered to the destination apparatus;
a receiver that receives the reply mail from the destination apparatus via the network, and receives an error mail via the network when the email was not delivered to the destination apparatus;
a memory that stores a delivery result indicating whether or not the email has been successfully delivered to the destination apparatus;
a timer that is set to a predetermined period of time and starts after the transmitter transmits the email;
a determiner that determines whether or not the receiver receives the reply mail before the timer expires and determines whether or not the receiver receives the error mail before the tinier expires, the delivery result indicating that the email was not delivered to the destination apparatus when the receiver receives the error mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the communication apparatus is waiting for the reply mail when the timer has not expired and the receiver has not received the reply mail or the error mail; and an output section that outputs a communication report including the delivery result stored in the memory.

a receiver that receives the reply mail from the destination apparatus via the network;
a memory that stores a delivery result indicating whether or not the email has been successfully delivered to the destination apparatus;
a timer that is set to a predetermined period of time and starts after the transmitter transmits the email;
a determiner that determines whether or not the receiver receives the reply mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the email has been successfully delivered to the destination apparatus when the receiver receives the reply mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the communication apparatus does not know whether the email has been delivered to the destination apparatus when the receiver does not receive the reply mail before the timer expires the delivery result indicating that the communication apparatus is waiting for the reply mail when the timer has not expired and the receiver has not received the reply mail; and an output section that outputs a communication report including the delivery result stored in the memory.

a transmitter that transmits the email created by the creator to the destination apparatus via the network, the destination apparatus transmitting a reply mail to the email when the email is successfully delivered to the destination apparatus;
a receiver that receives the reply mail from the destination apparatus via the network, and receives an error mail via the network when the email was not delivered to the destination apparatus;
a memory that stores a delivery result indicating whether or not the email has been successfully delivered to the destination apparatus;
a timer that is set to a predetermined period of time and starts after the transmitter transmits the email;
a determiner that determines whether or not the receiver receives the reply mail before the timer expires arid determines whether or not the receiver receives the error mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the email was not delivered to the destination apparatus when the receiver receives the error mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the communication apparatus does not know whether the email has been delivered to the destination apparatus when the receiver does not receive the reply mail or the error mail before the timer expires, the delivery result indicating that the communication apparatus is waiting for the reply mail when the timer has not expired and the receiver has not received the reply mail or the error mail; and an output section that outputs a communication report including the delivery result stored in the memory.
