Abstract
La présente invention concerne un substrat fibreux composé de fibres liées chimiquement, les fibres étant liées à l'aide d'un liant polymérique dans une quantité qui est suffisante pour lier les fibres entre elles afin de former une nappe autonome, le liant étant caractérisé en ce qu'il possède une contrainte de rupture à l'état mouillé supérieure à 4500 grammes par pouce (g/in), mesurée avec un ajout de 20 % sur un papier de chromatographie Wathman #4 CHR que l'on a séché sur tambour pendant 90 secondes à une température comprise entre 210 et 215 ·F et que l'on a durci pendant 2 minutes à une température comprise entre 300 et 325 ·F. De préférence, le niveau de formaldéhyde libre dans le substrat fibreux est inférieur à 15 mg/l. Les liants d'émulsion de l'invention peuvent être utilisés pour lier les fibres entre elles dans un substrat, pour lier des pigments, des couleurs ou d'autres substances sur un substrat, comme matériau de renfort, ou comme apprêt ou traitement de surface d'un substrat. En raison du niveau élevé de réticulation, les substrats liés ou traités au moyen du polymère d'émulsion de l'invention possèdent une excellente résistance à l'état humide, une bonne durabilité et tenue aux intempéries et une bonne résistance à l'eau et aux solvants.
