Abstract
The system and method for displaying an electronic program schedule guide is provided. The system has areas for displaying program schedule information. In addition, the system has areas that may be used for advertising programs, products or services. In another embodiment, the system has areas for displaying messages to the user.
Claims (17)
1. A method of arranging and managing information for an on-screen electronic program guide having a display screen comprising the steps of:
storing television schedule information items in a database;
displaying some of the television schedule information items in a television schedule information region;
selecting an advertisement for display from a plurality of advertisements; and simultaneously displaying the selected advertisement adjacent to the displayed plurality of television schedule information items, wherein the selected advertisement is displayed substantially vertically aligned with the television schedule information region.
storing television schedule information items in a database;
displaying some of the television schedule information items in a television schedule information region;
selecting an advertisement for display from a plurality of advertisements; and simultaneously displaying the selected advertisement adjacent to the displayed plurality of television schedule information items, wherein the selected advertisement is displayed substantially vertically aligned with the television schedule information region.
2. The method of claim 1, in which the displayed advertisement is interactive.
3. The method of claim 2, further comprising activating the displayed advertisement to invoke a function.
4. The method of claim 1, in which the displayed advertisement changes automatically independent of changes in the displayed plurality of television schedule information items.
5. The method of claim 1, in which the displayed advertisement has substantially the same horizontal width of the displayed plurality of television schedule information items.
6. The method of claim 3, in which the displayed advertisement is a payperview program and the function is authorizing payment for scheduling viewing of the payperview program.
7. The method of claim 3, in which the displayed advertisement is about a future scheduled TV program and the function is storing the time and channel of the future scheduled TV program for later recording or viewing.
8. The method of claim 3, in which the function is establishing a link to an Internet website and launching an application for displaying information related to the displayed advertisement.
9. The method of claim 3, in which displayed advertisement is about a product or service and the function ordering the advertised product or service.
10. The method of claim 1, in which the advertisement is displayed above the displayed plurality of television schedule information.
11. The method of claim 1, in which the advertisement is displayed below the displayed plurality of television schedule information.
12. The method of claim 3, wherein the function is scheduling a recording of a television broadcast about an advertised product or service
13. The method of claim 3, wherein the function is tuning to a television broadcast about an advertised product or service.
14. An electronic program guide system comprising:
means for storing television schedule information items;
means for displaying some of the television schedule information items in a television schedule information region;
means for selecting an advertisement for display from a plurality of advertisements; and means for displaying, simultaneously, the selected advertisement adjacent to the displayed plurality of television schedule information items, wherein the selected advertisement is displayed substantially vertically aligned with the television schedule information region.
means for storing television schedule information items;
means for displaying some of the television schedule information items in a television schedule information region;
means for selecting an advertisement for display from a plurality of advertisements; and means for displaying, simultaneously, the selected advertisement adjacent to the displayed plurality of television schedule information items, wherein the selected advertisement is displayed substantially vertically aligned with the television schedule information region.
15. An article of manufacture comprising a program storage medium readable by a computer and embodying one or more instructions executable by the computer to perform method steps for arranging and managing information for an an-screen electronic program guide having a display screen, said method steps comprising the steps of:
storing television schedule information items in a database;
displaying some of the television schedule information items in a television schedule information region;
selecting an advertisement for display from a plurality of advertisements; and simultaneously displaying the selected advertisement adjacent to the displayed plurality of television schedule information items, wherein the selected advertisement is displayed substantially vertically aligned with the television schedule information region.
storing television schedule information items in a database;
displaying some of the television schedule information items in a television schedule information region;
selecting an advertisement for display from a plurality of advertisements; and simultaneously displaying the selected advertisement adjacent to the displayed plurality of television schedule information items, wherein the selected advertisement is displayed substantially vertically aligned with the television schedule information region.
16. A computer-readable signal encoded with codes for directing a processor to carry out the method of any one of claims 1 to 13.
17. A computer-readable medium encoded with codes for directing a processor to carry out the method of any one of claims 1 to 13.
