Description

COMPOSITE OIL
The present invention relates to a composition of matter and more particularly, relates to a combination of krill oil and a vegetable oil.
An increasing amount of interest has been taken in the nutritional and medical fields of the value of having a proper balance of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids.
Certain fats are essential for life and humans could not exist without them. Essential fatty acids cannot be produced within the body and therefore they must be included in the diet. A
deficit or lack of essential fatty acids have been linked to many disease conditions including cardiovascular disease, hypertension, insulin resistance, etc.
Omega 3 fatty acids exist as a component of fish oils. Omega 6 fatty acids are present in many vegetable oils such as olive oil, grape seed oil, and the like.
Recently, there has been a lot of theorizing that the so-called Mediterranean diet, which is heavy in olive oil, is a "heart friendly" diet. This is due to studies which have noted that inhabitants of the Southern Mediterranean region suffer fewer cardiovascular problems than, for example, North Americans eating a diet which is heavy in saturated fats.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a composition comprising a mixture of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids and which has an optimal balance between the two components.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a composition which can be used with various oil and fat products to prevent lipid oxidation.

Preferably, the composition of the present invention will comprise a krill oil and a second oil which may be a vegetable or fish oil.
The marine oil is preferably that of a krill oil while the second oil may be selected from any suitable oil, including olive, grape, canola, seal, peanut and fish oils.
Preferably, the krill oil is cold extracted as is the second oil. To this end, the cold extraction of the krill oil gives a nature mixture of phospholipids and glycerides which differs from other oils in the sense that the marine oils are generally comprised of glycerides only with practically no phospholipids.
Preferably, the marine oil used is enriched in phospholipids by at least 20%.
The oils which are enriched with the Omega 3 and Omega 6 and carotenoids could be mixed with oils and fat products such as margarine, mayonnaise, and the like to prevent lipid oxidation.
-2-In a further aspect of the present invention, the mixture may comprise a combination of krill oil and an animal oil. Still further, the mixture could include three components - krill oil, a vegetable oil, and an animal oil.
Various oils were mixed with krill oil in a ratio of 25 ml of krill oil to 1 liter and an analysis of the oil oxidation was done at various times by method AOAC 965.33.
The results are as below.
