Description
TABLE SOCCER GAME
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
(a) Field of the Invention [0001] The present invention relates to a table game device and, more particularly, to the sport of soccer.
(b) Description of Prior Art [0002] Several table game devices have been developed, most of them being related to a hockey game. For instance, Canadian patents 477,717, 1,166,279, and 1.173,871 concern table games having a board comprising slots therein and rods allowing a sliding movement of the players to modify their position on the board. It also comprises a gear arrangement wherein a rod rotation induces a player rotation for striking a hockey puck. The Canadian patent 429,916 describes a game comprising a board with an inclined playing surface. Each team has five players which are moved by a mechanism comprising a single rod, two springs, and one handle. Thus, all the players in one team are controlled simultaneously with the rod by pulling the handle. The game obtained is therefore less precise and the possibility to create various games is limited.

[0003] Few table game devices are related to soccer. US patent 255,930 describes a table with a plurality of axially slideable actuating rods. The rods extend transversely on a playing area and playing figures are mounted thereon, above the playing surface. By rotating the rods, the player feet strike the ball and propel it along the playing surface.
[0004] There therefore exists a need for a new soccer table game.

DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0015] Referring to Figure l, it will be seen that the table soccer game of the present invention comprises a table 10. Table 10 comprises a rectangular plate having a top surface 12. a plurality of player figures 14 representing soccer players of two teams, two soccer goals 15, and two goaltender figures 16 representing soccer goaltenders. Table 10 has two lateral sides 17 and each side belongs to one soccer team. Player figures 14 are rotationally mounted on a specific position over top surface 12. Each player figure 14 is operatively connected to a player handle 18.
Player handles 18 are mounted on each lateral side of table 10, outwardly thereof.
All player handles 18 that control player figures 14 of one soccer team are on the same lateral side 17 of table 10. Each soccer goal 15 is mounted in the middle of lateral sides 17 of table 10, outwardly thereof. Goaltender figures 16 are pivotally mounted on top surface 12, in front of soccer goal 15. Each goaltender figure 16 is operatively connected to a goaltender handle 26. Goaltender handles 26 are mounted on lateral sides 17 of table 10, outwardly thereof. Goaltender handle 26 is mounted on the same lateral side than player handles 18 of the same soccer team.
[0016] A window 20 surrounds table 10 and a net 22 or any other kind of ceiling is mounted above window 20. Window 20 and net 22 prevent ball 28 to escape from table 10. Net 20 has an inclination toward its center and is part of a random face-off mechanism. The random face-off mechanism also comprises a truncated cone 24 mounted in the center of net 22 in the lowest part thereof. Cone 24 has two open ends 2~, each end 25 has a diameter wider than the diameter of ball 28. When a soccer ball 28 is put on net 22, ball 28 is attracted toward the center of net 22 and falls into cone 24, generating a random face-off that is proximate to the middle of top surface 12 [0017] Referring to Figure 2, it will be seen that top surface 12 is inclined toward it lateral sides. fop surface comprises swelling portions 12a, 12b, 12c, 12d on each side thereof. Swelling portions 12a, 12b, 12c, 12d deflect ball 28 and insure that there is no dead zone on top surface 12 where ball 28 could stop is motion.
[0018] Referring to Figure 3, player figures 14 are mounted on a shaft 42 inserted in a hole (not shown) in top surface 12. Bushings 44 are disposed in the free space of the hole around shaft 42. Bushings 44 fix shaft 42 to table 10 and eliminate the top surface disturbances around shaft 42 while keeping possible a rotation movement of shaft 42 inside hole.
[0019] A first end of a stem 38 is fixed to shaft 42 under top surface 12 by a manner known to one skilled in the art. Stem 38 extends parallel to top surface 12 under the plate. The second end of stem 38 is fixed to the first end of a spring 36.
~fhe other end of spring 36 is fixed on the plate under top surface 12. A rope or a rod 40 is also attached to the second end of stem 38, proximate to the first end of spring 36. Rope or rod 40 extends toward the lateral side 17 of table 10 comprising all player and goaltender handles 18, 26 of the team to which the player figure 14 belongs. Rope or rod 40 passes through the lateral side wall of table 10. The second end of rope or rod 40 is connected to one player handle 18. Thus, each player figure 14 is operatively connected to one player handle 18. Pulling and releasing player handles 18 allow a rotational movement of player figures 14. Referring simultaneously to Figures 2 and 3, it will be seen that each player figure 14 has a neutral position 30. Referring now to Figure 3c, when pulling player handle 18, stem 38 moves towards lateral side 17 on which player handle 18 is located and spring 36 is extended. Shaft 42 and player figure 14 rotate in a forty -ard movement 34 relatively to player figure 14. If ball 28 is located in front of player figure 14, ball 28 is propelled forward relatively to player figure 14. Referring to Figure 3d, when player handle 18 is released, spring 36 returns to its unextended position and shaft 42 and player figure 14 rotate in a backward movement 32 relatively to player figure 14. If ball 28 is located behind player figure 14, ball 28 is propelled backward relatively to player figure 14.
[0020] Referring to Figure 3b, it will be seen that player figure 14 comprises an extending foot 46 on one of its face. The shape of extended foot 46 allows its insertion under ball 28 and gives an upward motion thereto. Thus when the extremity of extended foot 46 hits ball 28, ball 28 is propelled into the air, giving a realistic shooting.
[0021] Referring back to Figure 2, it will be seen that top surface 12 has a semi-circular slot 16a in front of soccer goals 1 ~. Goaltender figures 16 are mounted on a shaft (not shown) which is inserted into slot 16a. An elongated plate 29 is mounted on the shaft under top surface 12. Elongated plate 29 is fixedly connected to goaltender handle 26. Connection between elongated plate 29 and goaltender handle 26 is mounted on a pivot 26a. Thus, by moving goaltender handle 26, elongated plate 29 pivots around pivot 26a and goaltender figures 16 move with a translation movement into semi-circular slot 16a. Each goaltender figure 16 has two extended feet to facilitate ball kicking and two arms elongated upward to face shoots made in the upper portions of soccer goals 1 ~.
[0022] As mentioned before, shafts 42 are inserted into holes in top surface 12.
Top surface 12 has more holes than player figures 14, thus allowing to modify the player figure disposition or the number of player figures on the top surface.
Referring to Figure 4, it will be seen that top surface 12 has twelve holes 48 which are potential player figure positions. Table 10 allows two game dispositions herein referred by the letters 'a' and 'b'. For the game disposition 'a', there are three players in each team while. for the game position 'b', there are four players in each team. For each player position, the lateral side wall of table 10 comprises a handle hole 50 for insertion of rope or rod 40. When hole 48 is not used, a cork (not shown) is inserted into hole 48 to avoid disturbances on top surface 12.
Top surface 12 has more holes than player figures 14, thus allowing to modify the player figure disposition or the number of player figures on the top surface.

When hole 48 is not used, a cork (not shown) is inserted into hole 48 to avoid disturbances on top surface 12.
(0023] Referring to Figure 5, it will be seen that it is possible to have a double player. A double player consists of two player figures 14 mounted on the same shaft 42. Each player figure 14 is mounted on its own stem 38, rope or rod 40, and player handle 18. Only one spring 36 is needed. Double players allow both team to have a player figure 14 in a strategic position such as the central position.
(0024] It is understood that the invention is not limited to the above preferred embodiment and that it covers any modifications thereto within the scope of the appended claims.
