Abstract

The concept used in this invention is basically the introduction of Bow-pressure air (5 - 10 pounds psi) into a WEDCO fuel container (low pressure-containing plastic vessel), thereby simultaneously forcing the contained liquid (fuel, water, oil etc.) out through a tube, transferring it to a different container or location.

During this operation the WEDCO fuel container lid stopper is temporarily replaced with a manufactured disc (by the inventor) - (see DETAIL FIGURE # 2) through which air is introduced into the WEDCO
container and through which the liquid flows out.

This device may be used to re-fuel an acreage tractor, transfer liquids from a WEDCO fuel container to other containers or tanks a short distance above, below or beside the WEDCO
container.

The use of this device eliminates the exercise of lifting a heavy fuel container over a tractor hood to pour fuel into its fuel tank or lifting a fuel container up to a vehicle to pour fuel into it's fuel tank.

This device has been used for approximately two years on an acreage property for periodic re-fueling of a tractor fuel tank and other implement tanks.

Description

LIQUID TRANSFER DEVICE 2 of 5 DESCRIPTION (For DESCRIPTIONS refer to FIGURE # 1) The liquid transfer apparatus consists of the air in-let / liauid out--let manufactured disc (10) (see DETAIL FIGURE # 2) which has a hole in which an air inlet valve stem (6) (with no valve core) is attached, and a hole through which the 1/2" liquid outlet tube (9), Extends down to the bottom of a WEDCO fuel container (8). A length of 518" hose (12) with attached 1/2" spout (13) at the end is attached to the liquid outlet tube (9) outside the container to transfer the liquid any reasonable distance above, beside or below, from the container to the equipment tank to be refueled. An air chuck (5) is attached to the end of a short length (25") air hose (4). Attached at the other end of the air hose (4) is a 114" air valve (2) to which the main air hose (1) will be attached during this operation. An optional air regulator (3) was installed below the 114" air valve (2) to monitor and ensure air input pressure to the fuel container is not excessive. However, the air compressor regulator located at the air compressor can be pre-set to regulate the air pressure. The applied air pressure to the container should range between 5 Ibs psi to no more than 15 Ibs psi.
When using the liquid transfer device with the fuel container (8), the air in-let I iiquid out-let manufactured disc (10) temporarily replaces the stopper on the fuel container (8). The fuel container screw cap (11) is used to tighten the air in-let I liquid outlet manufactured disc (10) down on i;he fuel container opening. The fuel container vent (7) needs to be closed to enable pressurization during use.
To transfer liquids using air with this device you need to attach the air chuck (5) to the air inlet valve stem (6) located on the fuel container lid and then slowly open the air valve (2). The air valve (2) located on the air hose (4) must be easily accessible by the person using this device in order to shut off the flow of air when necessary. It is recommended the operator pay special attention to the speed at which the fuel tank is being fueled. When the equipment fuel tank being fueled is near to being full, the operator needs to close the air valve (2) to slow down the introduction of air to the fuel container (8).
When airflow to the fuel container {8) i;~ shut off, the introduction of air to the container is stopped. If necessary, the air chuck (5) can quickly be removed from the valve stem (6).
If it is not removed from the valve stem, the remaining air in the fuel container will continue to farce the liquid out through the outlet for a brief time (until there is no air pressure). The 518" hose (12) connected to the fuel container 112" liquid outlet tube (9) does not and should not have a shut off valve for obvious reasons.
During development of this invention the air applied exceeded 15 psi to as much as 40 pounds psi (air pressure) and the fuel container (8) did visually expand during operation, with no apparent damage to the container. It was determined no more than 10 - 15 pounds psi would be necessary for the liquid transfer operation and exceeding this pressure could adversely affect the longevity of the fuel container.
The source of air to be applied to this device can also be that from <~ manual foot or hand pump or a smaii portable i2-volt air compressor. The on-off switch on the portable air compressor replaces the required air valve (2) used with maih air (1) described above. To completely stop the flow of liquid, the air chuck on the portable air compressor needs to be disconnected from the air inlet valve stem (6) located on the fuel container (8). The main air hose {1), air valve (2), air regulator (3), and whip hose (4) could be eliminated from FIGURE # '1 if the above-mentioned sources of air were used.

2. An apparatus as defined in Claim No. 1 where air is introduced into a pressure-containing vessel, the result being the contained liquid in the pressure-containing vessel is forced out by the excessive air pressure through a tube to another container or equipment fuel tank located above, beside or below it.
3. A manufactured device (by the inventor) for use with a WEDCO fuel container as described in Claim No. 1 and Claim No. 2 (shown in DETAIL FIGURE # 2) through which the described introduced air and the expulsion of contained liquids flows.
4. An apparatus as described in Claim No. 1 and Claim No. 2 and Claim No. 3 where the introduced air to the pressure containing vessel may originate from a 120 volt or 12 volt air compressor or from a manual hand or foot air pump.
