Abstract

The bag handler is a attachment used to grip jute bags or other items that can be penetrated, it uses 2 pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders to rotate via a linkage 2 sets of protruding spikes at either end of a rectangular frame to hold on to the parcel to be lifted, To operate the bag handler it is lowered onto the item to be lifted via hoist and is activated with a switch forcing 2 pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders connected to the shaft lever/rotating shaft linkage to rotate the spikes towards themselves producing the gripping pressure required to hold the parcel to be lifted. The parcel then may be lifted with the assistance of the hoist and positioned where the operator dictates. To release the parcel the operator releases the cylinder pressure by deactivating the switch in turn rotating the spikes and releasing the grip.

Bag Handler By Michael Douglas Milton The conception of this device is to reduce the risk of personal injury, increase productivity and lower costs for the handling of jute type bags in open or restricted areas ie:"cargo containers"
It is a 4 component apparatus consisting of (1) the base (2) the adjustable swing arm (3) the hoisting winch and (4) the grippes. Note the grippes is the key element in the device One person operates the device. Its primary functions to assist in the lifting of heavy bags for the palletizing or other lifting needs. Once the apparatus is positioned near the bags to be moved, the compressed air line is connected and the adjustable swing arm is leveled, .
The operator, holding the hoist/gripper control handle positions the grippes to latch onto the desired bag. helshe then engages the grippes by activating a toggle switch located on the control handle, the hoist, grippes and bag are then raised into the air supported by the swing arm and manually positioned over the receptacle, pallet or bin that is on or near the swing arms platform, at such time the hoist is lowered or the grippes is simply disengaged to release the bag at the desired location.

Claims
1. A metal lifting attachment used to grip porous items such as jute bags, hay bales and other penetrable packages, comprising of gripping spikes on each of 2 levered 90°rotating shaft assembly's that are attached and separated by a rectangular frame that also serves as a mounting platform for the 2 pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders that create the rotating motion of the spikes via the attached lever/shaft assembly, the frame also contains a mid point lifting bracket where a hoisting device is attached for lifting.
