Abstract

Un système et une méthode pour effectuer un balayage ou un survol à vitesse variable, dans lequel un utilisateur contrôle la vitesse de défilement d'un film, qui ne nécessite pas de ressources supplémentaires de disque ou de bande passante du réseau. Dans une matérialisation préférentielle, la méthode sert aux opérations de balayage pour un flux vidéo MPEG. La méthode respecte les contraintes du décodeur MPEG (dans la boîte numérique de l'utilisateur) et exige un minimum de ressources système supplémentaires. Les matérialisations de la présente invention comprennent (a) une méthode de stockage, (b1) une méthode d'échantillonnage de segment, (b2) une méthode de positionnement de segment et (c) une méthode de défilement, où (b1) et (b2) sont deux autres possibilités pour la sélection du segment. Ainsi, deux ensembles de solutions sont fournis pour effectuer un balayage à vitesse variable dans un serveur vidéo basé sur une matrice de disques : une à l'aide de (a), (b1) et (c) et l'autre à l'aide de (a), (b2) et (c).
