Abstract

A cable sheave for a cableway system formed in parts that may be fitted in containers for transportation. The cable sheave for a cableway system has a hub, a sheave body with a surface extending radially outward from the hub, and a sheave groove around its periphery. Fastening devices are provided on the sheave surface and at least two sheave parts can be connected rigidly to one another along a parting line to form the complete cable sheave. The parting line is located radially outside the hub, and avoids a requirement for high precision in production and risk of loss of strength of the hub.

Description

CABLE SHEAVE FOR CABLEWAY SYSTEMS
Background of the Invention:
The present invention relates to a cable sheave for cableway systems. The sheave has a hub, a sheave surface which extends from the hub and may be configured, if appropriate, in the form of spokes. The sheave further is formed with a cable groove on its circumference, and it has fastening devices which are provided on the sheave surface and along which at least two sheave parts can be connected to one another to form the complete cable sheave.
It has been known for the individual constituent parts of cableway systems to be produced in the factory and to be transported from the production site to wherever the cableway system is being erected. Since the system is transported in containers in this case, the individual constituent parts must be small enough to fit into the containers. For that reason it is necessary for large constituent parts to be subdivided into smaller units.

That requirement applies, in particular, to cable sheaves.
Accordingly, it has been known heretofore, to divide the latter into two halves. The prior art dividing operation encompasses at least one parting line to pass through the center of the cable sheave. As a result, the hub is also divided. However, such a dividing operation is disadvantageous since it requires very high production outlay in order to ensure the necessary precision for the divided hub. In addition, a divided hub cannot in any way achieve the strength of a non-divided hub.

The object of the invention is to provide a cable sheave for a cableway system which overcomes the above-noted deficiencies and disadvantages of the prior art devices and methods of this kind, and which, although it is divided into at least two constituent parts, avoids the disadvantages associated with the prior art divided cable sheaves.
With the above and other objects in view there is provided, in accordance with the invention, a cable sheave for a cableway system, comprising:
a hub;
a sheave body extending outwardly from the hub;
a periphery of the body formed with a cable groove; and fastening devices arranged at the sheave body for rigidly connecting at least two sheave parts to form the cable sheave, the cable sheave being divisible into the at least two sheave parts along a parting line located radially outside the hub.
In accordance with an added feature of the invention, the at least one parting line extends along a secant of the cable sheave body.
In accordance with an additional feature of the invention, the parting line is one of two mutually parallel parting lines spaced apart from an axis of the cable sheave by a distance equal to one quarter to three quarters of a radius of the cable sheave.
In accordance with another feature of the invention, the two parting lines are spaced apart from the axis of the cable sheave by a distance equal to approximately two fifths of the radius of the cable sheave.
In accordance with a further feature of the invention, the fastening devices comprise flanges arranged along the at least one parting line and forming segments, the flanges projecting transversely to the sheave body and enabling a rigid connection between the segments for forming the complete cable sheave.
In accordance with a concomitant feature of the invention, the flanges are located on both sides of the cable sheave.
Although the invention is illustrated and described herein as embodied in a cable sheave for cableway systems, it is nevertheless not intended to be limited to the details shown, since various modifications and structural changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention and within the scope and range of equivalents of the claims.
The construction and method of operation of the invention, however, together with additional objects and advantages thereof will be best understood from the following description of specific embodiments when read in connection with the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a plan view onto a cable sheave according to the invention; and Fig. 2 is sectional view of the cable sheave taken along the line II-II of Fig. 1 and viewed in the direction of the arrows.
Referring now to the figures of the drawing in detail, a cable sheave 1 (also referred to as a rope sheave or headwheel) illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 has a center hub 2 which serves for accommodating at least one bearing. A sheave body 11 which forms a sheave surface extends from the hub outwardly. The sheave body 11 of the exemplary embodiment is formed or reinforced by four spokes 12a, 12b, 12c and 12d arranged in star form, and it also has cutouts 13 formed between the spokes. The cable sheave 1 is provided with a cable groove 16 on its outer circumferential border. The spokes 12, which are of cross-sectionally U-shaped construction, have a cross section which tapers in wedge form from the hub 2 to the cable groove 16.
Parting lines A and B extend parallel to the spokes 12b and 12d and spaced apart from the axis of rotation defined by the center hub 2. The offset spacing distance between the parting lines A, B from the axis is equal to approximately two fifths of the radius of the cable sheave 1 and the cable sheave 1 is subdivided into three sheave parts 1a, 1b and 1c along the parting lines A, B. The sheave parts are formed on both their sides, along the parting lines A and B, with flanges 14a, 14b, 14c and 14d which project transversely to the sheave surface and are connected rigidly to one another by means of bolts 15.
This novel configuration of the cable sheave 1 means that the sheave parts la, 1b and lc are small enough to be able to be transported in containers. However, since the parting lines A
and B run outside the hub 2, the latter is in one piece, as a result of which it has the precision necessary for accommodating at least one bearing and as a result of which, in addition, the necessary strength thereof is ensured.

Claims (6)

1. A cable sheave for a cableway system, comprising:

a hub;

a sheave body extending outwardly from said hub; a periphery of said body formed with a cable groove; and fastening devices arranged at said sheave body for rigidly connecting at least two sheave parts to form the cable sheave, said cable sheave being divisible into said at least two sheave parts along an at least one parting line located radially outside said hub.
2. The cable sheave according to claim 1, wherein said at least one parting line extends along a secant of the cable sheave body.
3. The cable sheave according to claim l, wherein said parting line is one of two mutually parallel parting lines spaced apart from an axis of the cable sheave by a distance equal to one quarter to three quarters of a radius of the cable sheave.
4. The cable sheave according to claim 3, wherein said two parting lines are spaced apart from the axis of the cable sheave by a distance equal to approximately two fifths of the radius of the cable sheave.
5. The cable sheave according to claim 1, wherein said fastening devices comprise flanges arranged along said at least one parting line and forming segments, said flanges projecting transversely to said sheave body and enabling a rigid connection between said segments for forming the cable sheave.
6. The cable sheave according to claim 5, wherein said flanges are located on both sides of the cable sheave.
