Abstract

"In the course of building roads and other major earth excavations, it is known that erecting geo-textile fabric in front of running water will filter the silt and larger earthen particles from the water downstream from the fabric. In this invention two slats or a single stake of material will be provided on which geo-textile fabric will be attached at regular intervals. The slats will then attach to a reusable stake or the fabric may be attached directly to the single disposable stake. By providing these slat and stake combinations, the slats and fabric will be removable from the silt and the stakes will be reusable; or the disposable stake and fabric may be removed and discarded."

Description

Specifications 1. "This invention relates to the erection of geo-textile fabric where the fabric is used to filter earthen particles from water."
2. "Currently, it is common practice on industrial excavations to erect geo-textile fabric in the course of water flows in an attempt to filter small particles from the water before said water enters a stream or river. In such installations, it is imperative that the entire bottom of fabric be sealed against the ground and that the fabric will stand erect under various weather conditions. It has been proposed that wooden stakes attached to the fabric at two meter intervals be used to hold the fabric erect. This method has proved ineffective. The wooden stakes provided are often hard to drive into the earth at the site and because of cross-grained sections in the wood itself, often they split, rendering them and four meters of fabric useless. The fabric and stakes are provided in continuous 30-m rolls with stakes at 2-meter intervals. If only two stakes and 2m of fabric are required for an installation, 2m of fabric must be wasted. This fabric is often discarded in a careless manner resulting in an "eyesore" and pollution."
3. "We have found that these disadvantages may be overcome by clamping the geo-textile fabric between two vertical slats at regular intervals and by providing stakes on which to attach the slats. By providing a pair of stakes or slats at every second interval, the waste inherent in existing practices can be overcome. These improvements will allow the fabric to be installed as it is presently but there will be less waste when only a short interval is required. When a reusable stake and fabric are used the entire fence may be removed from the silt, washed and used again at another site."
4. "IN drawings which illustrate embodiments of this invention, Fig. l is a front elevation, Fig. 2 is a side view at 2 times the scale used in Fig.1. Fig. 3 is a side view of a second embodiment of this invention. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of a third embodiment and Fig. 5 is a side view of this third embodiment at 2 times the scale, used in Fig. 4."
(3) "The embodiment illustrated in Fig. 1 is comprised of two slats placed at regular intervals with the geo-textile fabric 8 between them. The slats 2 are then fastened together using an appropriate fastener 3. Attached to the bottom and middle of the slats 2 are loops 5 and 6. At the top of each slat set is a loop 4. The reusable stake 1 is comprised of a long narrow piece of suitable material with one end sharpened. At the opposite end of stake l, is a fixed hook 7. To erect the fabric, stake 1 is slid through loops 5 and 6 and driven into the ground. Loop 4 is hung on hook 7 and skirt 9 is laid flat on the ground and buried. In the second embodiment, a disposable stake is used to attach the geo-textile fabric and one slat to. The bottom of stake 10 is sharpened and at the top an opening through the stake, fabric, and slat is manufactured. Through this opening 1 l, a loop of suitable material 4 is provided on which to attach pulling equipment. In the third embodiment a single disposable stake 12 is used to attach the fabric to and these single stakes are arranged in pairs at every second interval."
"To remove, a chain can be attached to hook 7 or loop 4 so the fabric and stake can be removed from the soil. The stake 1 may be reused and the fabric, slats, stake 10 or stake 12 can be discarded."
5. "Any length of geo-textile fabric 8 with attached slats 2 and loops 4, 5, and 6 may be provided."
6. "Any length of geo-textile fabric with attached stake 10, slat 2 and loop 4 may be provided."
7. "Any length of geo-textile fabric with stakes arranged where every second fabric panel 8 ends in a pair of stakes side by side."
8. "Any geo-textile fabric may be used in combination with these embodiments."

Claims (9)

Claims "The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. A reusable stake on which to hang a geo-textile fabric.
2. Any length of geo-textile fabric with vertical slats and attaching mechanisms attached.
A reusable stake as defined in claim one used with any length of fabric as defined in claim two.
4. A reusable stake as defined in claim 1 where the stake is constructed of metal, plastic or wood.
5. A geo-textile fabric as defined in claim two where the slats are composed of metal, plastic or wood.
6. A geo-textile fabric as defined in claim two where the attaching mechanisms are loops made from plastic, Polly rope, nylon rope, nylon belt, rubber bands, metal straps or plastic straps.
7. A disposable stake that has been modified and combined with attaching mechanisms.
8. A stake as defined in claim seven when used with geo-textile fabric as defined in claim two, claim five and claim six.
9. Disposable stakes or stakes as defined in claim four or claim seven that have been arranged in a way that every second interval ends in two stakes fastened in close proximity of each other."
