Abstract
A bag with a top pocket-like portion open at one end and closed at the other to be engaged unto the backrest of a chair, the closed end being between two side openings and the open end having elasticised side portions enabling the bag to be fitted to a variety of backrests. A bag forming body downwardly extends from one side of the open end of the top pocket-like portion for staring articles, hanging along the length of the chair back and rearwardly oriented to the chair when the top pocket-like portion is engaged unto the chair backrest. The bag forming body may include a panel or a main pocket with a top opened and a bottom closed end and secondary pockets and straps secured to the panel or main pocket for storing articles therein or hanging articles therefrom.

Description
TITLE OF THE INVENTION
Reversible chair back bag FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to bags and more particularly to a s reversible bag that can be fitted unto the backrests of a variety of chairs.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In today's work place space has become an issue of ever increasing importance, smaller offices with more people are the norm rather than the exception. Hence, it is necessary for an office worker to have convenient to storage means, such as a bag attached to the worker's chair, in order to place various belongings such as books, keys, purses and the like therein. Such a bag may also be used outside of the office environment such as by persons who use lawn chairs or for baby chairs for example.
Chair backrest bags are known. US Patent No. 4,240,480 issued to 15 Strobel on December 23, 1980 disclosed a multipurpose bag with straps having snaps providing for the bag to be hung on chair backs with a horizontal rail.
US
Patent No. 5,139,308 issued to Ziman on August 18, 1992 discloses a chair with a bag detachably engaged to the back via straps that are flipped over the rail of the chair back. US Patents No. 4,577,903 issued to Wells on March 25, 1986 2o discloses a wheelchair storage bag that is attached to the wheelchair back by loops which receive the wheelchair handles.
None of the prior art provides a bag that can be hung from a variety of chairs. Bags with straps or loops cannot be engaged unto the back of chairs which do not have a railing or handles such as office chairs.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
The general object of the present invention is to provide a bag that obviates the above mentioned limitations.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a bag that can s be hung from the backrests of a variety of types of chairs.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a chair back bag with various pockets or straps or both for storing articles therein and hanging articles therefrom.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a chair to back storage bag that is reversible between two usable positions.
Still a further object of the present invention is to provide a reversible chair back storage bag that is strong, durable and relatively inexpensive.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
is A bag according to the present invention comprising a top backrest engaging portion to be detachably fitted unto the top of a chair backrest, the top portion having a pocket-like shape open at one end to fit the top of the backrest therein and having a closed part at the other end, and a bag forming body, extending from one side of the open end of the top portion, for storing articles and zo to be vertically disposed along the chair backrest and oriented rearwardly of the chair. Preferably, the closed part is located between two side openings.
Preferably, the bag is reversible between a first position wherein the bag forming body and the top portion have an exposed side and a concealed side, and a second position wherein said exposed side is concealed and said 2s concealed side is exposed.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a chair back bag with various pockets or straps or both for storing articles therein and hanging articles therefrom.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a chair to back storage bag that is reversible between two usable positions.
Still a further object of the present invention is to provide a reversible chair back storage bag that is strong, durable and relatively inexpensive.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
is A bag according to the present invention comprising a top backrest engaging portion to be detachably fitted unto the top of a chair backrest, the top portion having a pocket-like shape open at one end to fit the top of the backrest therein and having a closed part at the other end, and a bag forming body, extending from one side of the open end of the top portion, for storing articles and zo to be vertically disposed along the chair backrest and oriented rearwardly of the chair. Preferably, the closed part is located between two side openings.
Preferably, the bag is reversible between a first position wherein the bag forming body and the top portion have an exposed side and a concealed side, and a second position wherein said exposed side is concealed and said 2s concealed side is exposed.
Preferably, the open one end of the top engaging portion is elasticized to be adjustable to a variety of chair backrests.
Preferably, the bag forming body includes a panel, pockets for storing articles therein and straps for hanging articles therefrom, said pockets and s straps secured to said panel, preferably on both sides of the latter.
Alternately, the bag forming body is a main pocket closed at the bottom end and opened at the top end for storing articles therein, and secondary pockets and straps secured to both sides of said main pocket.
Preferably, the open top end of the main and secondary pockets io are pravided with closure means.

Preferably, the bag forming body includes a panel, pockets for storing articles therein and straps for hanging articles therefrom, said pockets and s straps secured to said panel, preferably on both sides of the latter.
Alternately, the bag forming body is a main pocket closed at the bottom end and opened at the top end for storing articles therein, and secondary pockets and straps secured to both sides of said main pocket.
Preferably, the open top end of the main and secondary pockets io are pravided with closure means.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBQDIMENT
With reference to the associated drawings, the preferred embodiment of the present invention will be herein described for indicative purposes and by no means as of limitation.
s Fig. 1 shows a bag 10 according to the present invention having a top backrest engaging portion 12 opened at its bottom end 14 and having a closed part 16 at its top end 17, bag 10 further includes a bag forming body 18 for storing articles and which is stitched to and downwardly extends from one side of the open bottom end 14 of top portion 12. The bag forming body 18 may to consist of a panel to both sides of which are stitched pockets 22 and straps 24 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The top backrest engaging portion 12 has a pocket-like shape so as to be detachably fitted unto, as illustrated in Fig. 2, the backrest 28 of a chair 26 with the bag forming body 18 hanging along the length of the backrest 28 and oriented rearwardly of the chair 26. Preferably, the closed part is 16 of i:he top end 17 of the top portion 12 is between two side openings 30 allowing the top portion 12 to be engaged unto the backrests of a variety of chairs, such as chair 27 shown in Fig. 2a. The top portion 12 further includes side portions 32, preferably elasticized or made out of a stretchable material, which again make the present chair back bag 10 accessible to a variety of 2o backrest widths.
The bag 10 of present invention is not limited to a particular dimension hence, various models can be produced and which are obvious to one skilled in the art so as to provide for the present bag 10 to be accessible to chairs that have smaller backrests such as baby chairs 34 as shown in Fig. 4. Figs. 2 and 4 also illustrate examples of various articles 32 which can be stored in pockets 22 or hung from straps 24.
Bag 10 is preferably reversible between a first position where one side of the body panel 18 is exposed, herein side A for convenience purpose s only, as illustrated by way of example in Figs. 1 and 2 and a second position wherein side A is concealed and the other side of body panel 18 is revealed, herein side B for convenience purpose only, as illustrated by the example in Fig.
3. The top backrest engaging portion 12 is simply turned inside out for passing from the first to the second position. The arrangement and size of pockets 22 is io different on sides A and B and side A or B is exposed depending on which pocket arrangement it is desired to use.
As shown in Figs. 5 and 6 the bag body panel 18 may be replaced by a larger pocket 38 for storing various articles therein, with a top opening accessible on side A. The larger pocket 38 is illustrated having pockets 22 on its outer front is side 44 along with straps 24. Pockets 22, 38 may also have closure means such as zippers Z or snaps 48 respectively, or any other like closure means. Fig. 6 also shows that the same bag 10 as in Fig. 5 may include pockets 22 and straps 24 on its B side. Obviously, larger pocket 38 is not accessible when bag 10 is hung in the second position with side A concealed and side B revealed.
2o Preferably bag 10 is made out of a plastic or leather or any other strong and durable material. Preferably, the present invention will be used on a variety of chair backrests such as, for example, lawn chairs, wheelchairs, school desk chairs, baby chairs and particularly ofFice chairs for workers who lack space for storing belongings and office articles.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention which is not limited to the features of the embodiment described and illustrated herein, but includes all variations, modifications and embodiments within the scope of the claims.
With reference to the associated drawings, the preferred embodiment of the present invention will be herein described for indicative purposes and by no means as of limitation.
s Fig. 1 shows a bag 10 according to the present invention having a top backrest engaging portion 12 opened at its bottom end 14 and having a closed part 16 at its top end 17, bag 10 further includes a bag forming body 18 for storing articles and which is stitched to and downwardly extends from one side of the open bottom end 14 of top portion 12. The bag forming body 18 may to consist of a panel to both sides of which are stitched pockets 22 and straps 24 as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The top backrest engaging portion 12 has a pocket-like shape so as to be detachably fitted unto, as illustrated in Fig. 2, the backrest 28 of a chair 26 with the bag forming body 18 hanging along the length of the backrest 28 and oriented rearwardly of the chair 26. Preferably, the closed part is 16 of i:he top end 17 of the top portion 12 is between two side openings 30 allowing the top portion 12 to be engaged unto the backrests of a variety of chairs, such as chair 27 shown in Fig. 2a. The top portion 12 further includes side portions 32, preferably elasticized or made out of a stretchable material, which again make the present chair back bag 10 accessible to a variety of 2o backrest widths.
The bag 10 of present invention is not limited to a particular dimension hence, various models can be produced and which are obvious to one skilled in the art so as to provide for the present bag 10 to be accessible to chairs that have smaller backrests such as baby chairs 34 as shown in Fig. 4. Figs. 2 and 4 also illustrate examples of various articles 32 which can be stored in pockets 22 or hung from straps 24.
Bag 10 is preferably reversible between a first position where one side of the body panel 18 is exposed, herein side A for convenience purpose s only, as illustrated by way of example in Figs. 1 and 2 and a second position wherein side A is concealed and the other side of body panel 18 is revealed, herein side B for convenience purpose only, as illustrated by the example in Fig.
3. The top backrest engaging portion 12 is simply turned inside out for passing from the first to the second position. The arrangement and size of pockets 22 is io different on sides A and B and side A or B is exposed depending on which pocket arrangement it is desired to use.
As shown in Figs. 5 and 6 the bag body panel 18 may be replaced by a larger pocket 38 for storing various articles therein, with a top opening accessible on side A. The larger pocket 38 is illustrated having pockets 22 on its outer front is side 44 along with straps 24. Pockets 22, 38 may also have closure means such as zippers Z or snaps 48 respectively, or any other like closure means. Fig. 6 also shows that the same bag 10 as in Fig. 5 may include pockets 22 and straps 24 on its B side. Obviously, larger pocket 38 is not accessible when bag 10 is hung in the second position with side A concealed and side B revealed.
2o Preferably bag 10 is made out of a plastic or leather or any other strong and durable material. Preferably, the present invention will be used on a variety of chair backrests such as, for example, lawn chairs, wheelchairs, school desk chairs, baby chairs and particularly ofFice chairs for workers who lack space for storing belongings and office articles.

Claims (10)
1 A bag comprising a top backrest engaging portion to be detachably fitted unto the top of a chair backrest, said top portion having a pocket-like shape open at one end to fit said top of said backrest therein and having a closed part at the other end, and a bag forming body, extending from one side of said open end of said top portion, for storing articles and to be vertically disposed along said chair backrest and oriented rearwardly of said chair.
2. A bag as defined in claim 1, wherein said closed part is located between two side openings.
3. A bag as defined in claim 2, reversible between a first position wherein said bag forming body and top portion have an exposed side and a concealed side, and a second position wherein said exposed side is concealed and said concealed side is exposed.
4. A bag as defined in claim 1, wherein said open one end of said top portion is elasticized to be adjustable to a variety of chair backrests.
5. A bag as defined in claim 2, wherein said bag forming body includes a panel, pockets for storing articles therein and straps for hanging articles therefrom, said pockets and straps secured to said panel.
6. A bag as defined in claim 5, wherein there are pockets and straps secured to both sides of said panel.
7. A bag as defined in claim 6, wherein said open top end of said top portion is elasticized to be adjustable to a variety of chair backrests.
8. A bag as defined in claim 2, wherein said bag forming body includes a main pocket closed at the bottom end and opened at the top end, and secondary pockets and straps secured to both sides of said main pocket.
9. A bag as defined in claim 8, wherein said open top end of said top portion is elasticized to be adjustable to a variety of chair backrests.
10. A bag as defined in claim 9 wherein said open top end of said main and secondary pockets are provided with closure means.
