Abstract
A magnet plug in which a magnet having a maximum diameter relative to the diameter of a thread can be installed in a distal end of a thread portion and whose manufacturing process is simplified, the magnet plug being characterized in that a magnet (3) is installed in a cylindrical piece (2) caused to project from a distal end surface of a thread portion (1) of a plug main body (A) and having an outside diameter smaller than the diameter of a bottom portion of the thread portion.

MAGNET PLUG
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
Field of the Invention:
The present invention relates to a magnet plug fitted to a gear box etc. for attracting and removing iron dust mixed in oil in said gear box etc.
Description of the Prior Art:
A magnet plug is constructed such that a piece of permanent magnet is fitted fixedly in a recess portion provided at a tip face portion of a plug screwed to a gear box etc.
In manufacturing the magnet plug, when the piece of permanent magnet is to be fixed to the plug, there are disclosed two cases where (A) a peripheral edge portion of the plug tip face is caulked so that the piece of permanent magnet which is inserted in the plug recess portion is fixed and (B) an annular piece of soft metal inserted in an annular space formed between an outer periphery of the piece of permanent magnet and an inner periphery of the plug recess portion is squeezed to deform so that the piece of permanent magnet is fixed to the plug.

piece of permanent magnet according to the method of above-mentioned case (A), wherein a construction of the plug is such that a piece of permanent magnet c is fitted ln a recess portion b provided in a tip face portion of a plug a and caulking is applied directly by a caulking tool at a tip peripheral edge portion of a threaded portion of the plug a, as shown by symbol d, so that the piece of permanent magnet c may not come out.
Figs. lO to 12 show a magnet plug made by the method of above-mentioned case (B), wherein a construction of the plug is such that a piece of permanent magnet c is fitted in a recess portion b provided in a tip face portion of a plug a, an outer diameter of the piece of permanent magnet c being smaller than an inner diameter of the recess portion b, and an annular piece of soft metal e is inserted in a space between the piece of permanent magnet c and the plug a and is squeezed to deform.
As to the type shown in (A) out of said magnet = plugs in the prior art, there is a problem that the piece of permanent magnet is fitted in the recess portion at the tip face of the threaded portion of the plug and caulking is directly applied to the plug, thus there is needed a thickness for causing a caulking deformation between the threaded portion and the recess portion and if said thickness is small, there occurs a distortion of the CA 02222201 1997-11-2~

threaded portion due to the caulking and there can be also a bitter case that screwing into a threaded hole of a gear case etc. becomes impossible, hence there is necessarily a restriction in the diameter of the magnet.
Also, as to the other type shown in (B), there is needed no such thickness for causing a caulking deformation as needed in the case of (A) but there occurs an expansion of the threaded portion due to the pressure at the time of squeezing the annular piece of soft metal, hence like the case mentioned above, there is a problem that the diameter of the magnet is restricted.
Also, in the process of manufacture of the magnet plug, as there is provided the recess portion in the tip face portion o~ the threaded portion, if a thickness between a lower roLling diameter and the recess portion is too small to apply a thread rolling, the thickness cannot stand a rolling pressure and the threaded portion shrinks to become thin with result that the recess portion itself becomes smaller, hence in order to make a comparatively large recess hole relative to the thread diameter, it is inevitable that a rolling process is first applied and then a hole making work is done. For this reason, the hole making inevitably depends on. a cutting work with result that there is a problem that the manufacture of magnet plug needs three processes of a forging, a rolling and a hole cutting in .
this order wherein none of the processes can be omitted.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
In view of the problems in the prior art, therefore, it is an object of the present invention to provide a magnet plug in which a magnet of a maximum diameter relative to a thread diameter can be buried in a tip end of the plug and a manufacturing process thereof can be much facilitated.
In order to attain said object, the present invention relates to a magnet plug which is constructed such that a cylindrical member is projected from a tip face of a threaded portion of a plug, said cylindrical member having an outer diameter which is smaller than a root diameter of said threaded portion, and a magnet is fitted in said cylindrical member.

In Figs. 1 and 2 which show a first embodiment of the present invention, a cylindrical member 2, which has a smaller outer diameter than a root diameter of a threaded portlon 1 of a plug A, is projected from a tip face of the threaded portion 1, a magnet 3 is fitted in the cylindrical member 2, an annular piece of soft metal 4 made of aluminum etc. is inserted into an annular space formed between the = magnet 3 and the cylindrical member 2 and the annular piece of soft metal 4 is squeezed to deform so as to fix the magnet 3 to the cylindrical member 2.
In Figs. 3 and 4 which show a second embodiment of the present invention, a cylindrical member 2, which has a smaller outer diameter than a root diameter of a threaded portion 1 of a plug A, is projected from a tip face of the threaded portion 1, a cylindrical magnet 3 is fitted in the cylindrical member 2 and caulking is applied to an entire periphery of the cylindrical member 2 so that the cylindrical magnet 3 is fixed. In Figs. 3 and 4, symbol 2a designates a caulked portion around the entire periphery of the cylindrical member 2.
In Figs. 5 and 6 which show a third embodiment of the present invention, a cylindrical member 2, which has a smaller outer diameter than a root diameter of a threaded Z5 portion 1 of a plug A, is projected from a tip face of the CA 02222201 1997-11-2~
threaded portion 1, a cylindrical magnet 3 is fitted in the cylin.drical member 2 and caulking is applied dottedly to the cylindrical member 2. In Figs. 5 and 6, symbol 2a designates a caulked portion.
INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY:
According to the magnet plug of the present invention as described above, as the cylindrical member, which has a smaller outer diameter than a root diameter of the threaded portion of the plug, is projected from the tip face of the threaded portion and said cylindrical member is made use of as the fixing member of the magnet, the fixing portion of the magnet is separated from the threaded portion, there occurs at the threaded portion no adverse influence due to squeezing of the filler as a means for fixing the magnet in said cylindrical member and due to caulking of said cylindrical member and an outer diameter of the fixing portion can be secured to the maximum of the root diameter of the threaded portion. Thus, not only the magnet of a maximum diameter relative to the diameter of the threaded portion can be buried in the tip portion of the plug but also as the outer diameter of the cylindrical member is smaller than the root diameter of the threaded portion, even if the hole making is done before the rolling in the plug manufacturing process, there occurs no adverse CA 02222201 1997-11-2~
influence at the threaded portion and the hole portion, hence the rolling can be done after the hole is molded concurrently with the forging and the process of hole cutting work can be omitted.
Also, according to the present invention, the magnet is not fitted in an interior of the threaded portion of the pl.ug as in the prior art but is fitted fixedly in the cylindrical member projected from the tip face of the threaded portion, hence there occurs no magnetic induction on the threaded portion.

MAGNET PLUG
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
Field of the Invention:
The present invention relates to a magnet plug fitted to a gear box etc. for attracting and removing iron dust mixed in oil in said gear box etc.
Description of the Prior Art:
A magnet plug is constructed such that a piece of permanent magnet is fitted fixedly in a recess portion provided at a tip face portion of a plug screwed to a gear box etc.
In manufacturing the magnet plug, when the piece of permanent magnet is to be fixed to the plug, there are disclosed two cases where (A) a peripheral edge portion of the plug tip face is caulked so that the piece of permanent magnet which is inserted in the plug recess portion is fixed and (B) an annular piece of soft metal inserted in an annular space formed between an outer periphery of the piece of permanent magnet and an inner periphery of the plug recess portion is squeezed to deform so that the piece of permanent magnet is fixed to the plug.

piece of permanent magnet according to the method of above-mentioned case (A), wherein a construction of the plug is such that a piece of permanent magnet c is fitted ln a recess portion b provided in a tip face portion of a plug a and caulking is applied directly by a caulking tool at a tip peripheral edge portion of a threaded portion of the plug a, as shown by symbol d, so that the piece of permanent magnet c may not come out.
Figs. lO to 12 show a magnet plug made by the method of above-mentioned case (B), wherein a construction of the plug is such that a piece of permanent magnet c is fitted in a recess portion b provided in a tip face portion of a plug a, an outer diameter of the piece of permanent magnet c being smaller than an inner diameter of the recess portion b, and an annular piece of soft metal e is inserted in a space between the piece of permanent magnet c and the plug a and is squeezed to deform.
As to the type shown in (A) out of said magnet = plugs in the prior art, there is a problem that the piece of permanent magnet is fitted in the recess portion at the tip face of the threaded portion of the plug and caulking is directly applied to the plug, thus there is needed a thickness for causing a caulking deformation between the threaded portion and the recess portion and if said thickness is small, there occurs a distortion of the CA 02222201 1997-11-2~

threaded portion due to the caulking and there can be also a bitter case that screwing into a threaded hole of a gear case etc. becomes impossible, hence there is necessarily a restriction in the diameter of the magnet.
Also, as to the other type shown in (B), there is needed no such thickness for causing a caulking deformation as needed in the case of (A) but there occurs an expansion of the threaded portion due to the pressure at the time of squeezing the annular piece of soft metal, hence like the case mentioned above, there is a problem that the diameter of the magnet is restricted.
Also, in the process of manufacture of the magnet plug, as there is provided the recess portion in the tip face portion o~ the threaded portion, if a thickness between a lower roLling diameter and the recess portion is too small to apply a thread rolling, the thickness cannot stand a rolling pressure and the threaded portion shrinks to become thin with result that the recess portion itself becomes smaller, hence in order to make a comparatively large recess hole relative to the thread diameter, it is inevitable that a rolling process is first applied and then a hole making work is done. For this reason, the hole making inevitably depends on. a cutting work with result that there is a problem that the manufacture of magnet plug needs three processes of a forging, a rolling and a hole cutting in .
this order wherein none of the processes can be omitted.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
In view of the problems in the prior art, therefore, it is an object of the present invention to provide a magnet plug in which a magnet of a maximum diameter relative to a thread diameter can be buried in a tip end of the plug and a manufacturing process thereof can be much facilitated.
In order to attain said object, the present invention relates to a magnet plug which is constructed such that a cylindrical member is projected from a tip face of a threaded portion of a plug, said cylindrical member having an outer diameter which is smaller than a root diameter of said threaded portion, and a magnet is fitted in said cylindrical member.

In Figs. 1 and 2 which show a first embodiment of the present invention, a cylindrical member 2, which has a smaller outer diameter than a root diameter of a threaded portlon 1 of a plug A, is projected from a tip face of the threaded portion 1, a magnet 3 is fitted in the cylindrical member 2, an annular piece of soft metal 4 made of aluminum etc. is inserted into an annular space formed between the = magnet 3 and the cylindrical member 2 and the annular piece of soft metal 4 is squeezed to deform so as to fix the magnet 3 to the cylindrical member 2.
In Figs. 3 and 4 which show a second embodiment of the present invention, a cylindrical member 2, which has a smaller outer diameter than a root diameter of a threaded portion 1 of a plug A, is projected from a tip face of the threaded portion 1, a cylindrical magnet 3 is fitted in the cylindrical member 2 and caulking is applied to an entire periphery of the cylindrical member 2 so that the cylindrical magnet 3 is fixed. In Figs. 3 and 4, symbol 2a designates a caulked portion around the entire periphery of the cylindrical member 2.

INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY:
According to the magnet plug of the present invention as described above, as the cylindrical member, which has a smaller outer diameter than a root diameter of the threaded portion of the plug, is projected from the tip face of the threaded portion and said cylindrical member is made use of as the fixing member of the magnet, the fixing portion of the magnet is separated from the threaded portion, there occurs at the threaded portion no adverse influence due to squeezing of the filler as a means for fixing the magnet in said cylindrical member and due to caulking of said cylindrical member and an outer diameter of the fixing portion can be secured to the maximum of the root diameter of the threaded portion. Thus, not only the magnet of a maximum diameter relative to the diameter of the threaded portion can be buried in the tip portion of the plug but also as the outer diameter of the cylindrical member is smaller than the root diameter of the threaded portion, even if the hole making is done before the rolling in the plug manufacturing process, there occurs no adverse CA 02222201 1997-11-2~
influence at the threaded portion and the hole portion, hence the rolling can be done after the hole is molded concurrently with the forging and the process of hole cutting work can be omitted.
Also, according to the present invention, the magnet is not fitted in an interior of the threaded portion of the pl.ug as in the prior art but is fitted fixedly in the cylindrical member projected from the tip face of the threaded portion, hence there occurs no magnetic induction on the threaded portion.
Claims
1. A magnet plug wherein a cylindrical member is projected from a tip face of a threaded portion of a plug, said cylindrical member having an outer diameter which is smaller than a root diameter of said threaded portion, and a magnet is fitted in said cylindrical member.
